Nice! I didn't think the comet actually existed... I had an orbit lined up to encounter it, but when I came close, the markers disappeared and I never got pulled into any SoI.. so I gave up... now I might have to go back out there again..

Im pretty sure in a certain update they added it in as a real object, i did the same thing once and when i was time warping i noticed the commet wasnt moving at all

+Green God Thank You! But I did come up behind its orbit. Smearth's orbit is in the opposite direction to that of the comet so I had to reverse the orbit at apoapsis to approach from behind instead of head on.

Or just by launching in the opposite direction when leaving Earth. Then you could rendezvous at the comet's periapsis instead, saving a lot of dV

@@FoolishBalloon I initially had the same thought as you, but he is right. Burning retrograde to get out of smearth's orbit would still have you orbiting opposite from Smalley's Comet, just at at lower velocity, making it harder to burn out to Smalley's Apoapsis. Changing your orbital direction to match Smalley's out at apoapsis was definitely the most efficient way of doing this.

Smalley’s Comet is one strange comet. It’s surface os cold enough and calm enough as well as solid enough for a metal structure to land on it. Is that how every comet in the Smolar System is like (this is not the solar system, I know because I have played the game)?

A very heavy craft with rcs thrusters make it much easier.

It would be easier with ion engines because they don't really use any fuel
