    Just building my track layout and gathering all the tips and ideas I possibly can. This is a very good idea I’ve been experimenting with this type of banking and it does help the racing. The wood shims are brilliant thank you.

    As a builder of wood routed tracks, this is the best idea I have seen for enhancing racing on a plastic track. FYI have you ever seen a perfectly flat straight on any real racing circuit? Put those shims on both sides of the track just before or just exiting a corner for even more excitement!!

    You're right Tim...it makes for exciting racing. However, it wasn't my idea. I simply learned from someone else who was doing it. What I think is really cool is creating negative camber on curved track. It requires good driving skill. Your thoughts?

    Steve I was thinking about this a few days ago. You are right. I just made a change to my layout recently by adding more curved track and I reversed the cambered turns and the impact was significant. More challenging turns for sure. Thanks for your comment.

    Nice looking layout. Well done. And this idea of using the Home Depot carpentry shims under the curved track is a great one. I can't believe I hadn't thought of that as I used a million of those shims when I was building my deck. I also like the idea of insetting the track in foam board or homasote. I hate how the track looks just sitting up on the table. This provides an extra level of realism when using plastic track.

  • @MrAramsey4979

    @MrAramsey4979

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Heath...hope you and your family are doing well. Thanks for the kind words. The shim makes a big difference. You're able to come out of the curves faster and it better represents real racing. Real circuits have gradient incorporated into the curved areas. Secondly, if you send me your email to aramsey4979@yahoo.com I'll send you a few pics of my layout construction. Oh by the way...I did a terrible tracing my track on the foam board. It was supposed to be 1:1 tight fit. So I improvised and used aquarium sand as run off to hide my poor tracing skills but it actually makes it look better. Thanks again.

  • @PaulMiles1

    This is a great way to incorporate banking. Stacking and getting a higher angle would increase top speed through the turns as well. Putting some shims down the straights probably wouldn't add to the performance, but adding some elevation changes on the straights, including some cambered straights (one side higher than the other) would make the racing more interesting.

My thoughts on the subject is as follows; determine how much space you have currently, tape the surface area so you can see it mentally, and start laying out different configurations until you find something you life. Love the Innovation. However it takes some driver skill to navigate trun with vehicle mechanical grip.

    It does in deed. I run some cars without magnets too and it takes skill either way.

    i wish i can get this .... im getting ready ro purchase my sons first slot car set christmas 2020 and im unsure if what brand to get im not sure what the cheapest digital carrera track is i dont have a lot of room im just foing it for fun not for sport ..... i was going to orriginally get the auto world HO xtraction size but ive been researching slot cars for 3 months now .... i used to have a set back in the 90's ,my brother and i did have one . I remember using it and having lots of fun . I dont remember the brand but i know it was good quality .... i want to spend 200.00 or less , unless its just a bit more over 200 then ill consider it. like i said i dont want a huge track 4 or five foot long is getting on the bigger side for me but if its extreamly better than ill consider it .. I'm writ this comment in hopes to get advise from people ..... Please peoples opinions ... sorry for my misspelling and my grammer lol.... It will be for my nine year old and mysterious 4 year old boys

    The Scalextric brand is a little cheaper. You can also look on Ebay and get a starter system a little cheaper too as an option. But if you can spend a little more than $200 get the Carrera system. It's well made and durable. You can expand the system as your child gets older

    Awesome track ... congratulations. But the shim boards aren't actually rocket science, are they. I'm just surprised so many people haven't included them in their layouts already. Stay safe & well ;-)

    Thanks...the shim pieces aren't high tech but they get the job done especially with my track being inset into foam board...You and your family stay safe also...

    I'm not knowledgeable about HO scale cars. My system is 1/32 scale Carrera Digital. A starter set is about $360. If you're asking my opinion, I recommend a Carrera Digital Set.
