Watching this and hearing you say the dollar store utensils work well … and all 99c stores are closed . 😢 . Love your attitude and your giggle. My bf and I go car camping and we are roughing it much more than you are camping because my bf can not be bothered to plan but he appreciate it when I pull out the “ gear” . You CAN and be comfortable too.

Thank you so much! Kit is just such a wonderful companion. She does not live with me full-time due to my job and travel. She now lives with my parents full-time and loves being with them and their dog but I get to see her frequently and whenever I go camping, I’m allowed to take her with me.😊 she was my sons dog, and when he passed away, she became my dog, but I couldn’t keep her in the house all day with a five hour commute. So my parents opted to keep her with them and their dog and they are best buddies and I tried bringing her back with me this year to live but she really is so used to living with them and their dog that all dogs had anxiety after separating them. ❤️😊🙏

Except of course now I have grandkids so they are a priority in my life and although they live across the country it does give me the opportunity to travel to see them. I have been eyeing one of those pop-up shell campers for this jeep. It’s a 2010 so part of me is just wait until I get a new one and see if I want to get a new type of car but I can really see how this would make a big difference in the sleeping arrangements.😊 although when I’m camping alone, I like to camp inside my car so I feel like I have to just haul out of there. I can crawl up into the driver seat and go.🙏

I am so impressed with your skill and collection of useful stuff! Love, love, love your fur baby❤❤❤ I am not a camper, I even get mostly crippled by many motel beds (especially the chain known for its roof colour) and never get any sleep there. But I will have to sleep in my car this weekend when I travel to central Michigan for powwow. It won't be a nice rural setup like this, I'll probably have to find the closest Walmart parking lot. But it's something I've never done before, so I am following your great advice here and making lists. My Tuscon is not likely to be as comfy as your Jeep! No space for cooking outside or showering, it's going to be bathing wipes, dry shampoo (both in a cramped crossover space), and MREs with a Barocook to heat them up (I have yet to meet an MRE heater that works!) Oh well, I'll probably be full of frybread anyway! But will be going with a neurodivergent friend, so I may not be able to eat when I want to, she has issues.

Wow...just started watching your videos! You are awesome..indeed inspiring. I started a couple of years ago gathering stuff to car camp..tried it once in a torrential rain storm in a backyard after a wedding. It was disastrous to say the least. That fall my son and I happened upon a used hybrid camper and bought it for my artists getaway...parked at my son's where I can "get away", visit with my boys and grandson and friends..( I moved a state away)..but now, I just can't help it,,,,I have the itch to car camp again. Have learned so much more with videos and my own camper..but want to learn to go even more simply and minimally in my car...I know I can do it!!! PS..not sure where you were but those huge rocks in the water were awesome, smooth, uniquely shaped...beautiful!! Happy Camping!!

I love your rig! I am so jealous! When you set up the hammock I was wondering why you didn't sleep there. Girl, you need a camping quilt and a closed cell pad. I have one, that I think came as a yoga mat, and it has the same foil that you have on your sunshade. I also bought a roll of that stuff. It's great to make a cozy for backpacker meals. The same goes for my steel cookware. I only get to camp twice a year with our Girl Scout troop, which I adore - Platform tents, so I don't have to try and set up/tear down, (get up off the ground in the morning... LOL) I don't drive anymore so I couldn't take off if I wanted to. But I still pack as though I'm going on a backpacking trip so that I can teach the girls, and now we're going to start working on EDC & preparedness so I'm really looking forward to that. AND next month when we go camping we finally get to camp in the yurts! I swear, I would live in one if I could. LOL I really miss being able to take off like that. For a brief while I lived in my car in Cheyenne Mountain Canyon in Colorado, and OMG it was the best way to wake up every day, seeing the mountains out of the window. Your camp area is absolutely gorgeous. What an amazing location. With as much as you travel *everywhere* for work, part of me was surprised that you wouldn't get home and not move, just happy to have your own bed for a change. At the same time, I get the Zen of it, doing nothing while being part of everything. Just the thought of all those airports would make me run screaming to the woods. LOL. I'm almost the age of my mom before she passed, and the last few years if anything was going on, she'd say "That's it, I'm going to the woods!' Btw, I have one of those solar showers, not for camping though, I keep it with my blackout/emergency stuff. I can hang in on my porch or in my kitchen window to heat the water without using fuel. (Eyes up here! ROFL You crack me up!)

Wow, thank you so much, Maggie! It sounds like you have had an adventurous life and I’m so happy you were involved with the Girl Scouts and getting them prepared with EDC! Being self reliant as a woman is a gift. I’m so happy to be able to share my ideas and I’m happy you are sharing yours as well.! I so want to do this. I now have a 2023 KIA Seltox LX so not very large but so doable. I have done the extreme “camping” with US Army so I know I can improvise. Loving the equipment the table and chair especially. I do think if you can find a safe out of the way a retreat from it all is so worth it. My oldest son who is in his forty’s now, we would just take off in our car with sleeping bags, food and easy going clothes. I was stationed at Fort Hood and we would have as you can imagine an endless travel distinations to pick. But we also stayed in motels near musuems or on Army Lodgings.

I have slept in my car locked up by myself, but it was also in a parking lot which I don’t know if it was any safer, but made me feel safer.

Well, Kir is the dog I bought for my son. His whole life he wanted a dog and his father would never let him have one. my son was a drug addict and it was the one thing that made him happy and calm while he was trying to recover. Unfortunately, my son passed away and I was having a five hour commute and traveling all the time for work and I couldn’t keep her. so my parents decided to keep her for me and now she lives with them and their other dog, and is very happy up in the mountains, but they do come down quite often and see me and bring her here and she still remembers her mama.😊❤️ although I’m now working from home we tried to keep her here this past summer for a couple of weeks but Genji, who is my parents dog had a very hard time not having Kit around. And Kit was very skittish not being around Genji. So my parents have taken her back and I see her when they’re down here or if I’m going camping, I bring her with me.❤️

@@TheoryofSimple the ingenuity is from KZreadrs not me (although I wish I were genius lol). It was all the rage before solar batteries became the new go to for everything. On spring/fall mornings I warm up my cast iron by the fire while preparing the food then let the sun cook it. In summer, it goes straight into the sun. You can get a couple going at the same time - main and dessert or whatever. Use a black pot and a glass lid and throw a piece of clear plastic over the whole thing - I bet that zipper/plastic wouldn't last out in the bush or even campground. Keep the configuration tight to your pot but about a fist size distant from sides to let heat circulate. Don't forget to slip your hand (glove!) in the side to give your pot a turn every 1/2 hour unless you're leaving camp for a swim/paddle/fishing/hike etc. It'll cook if you're not there but turning helps a bit. ------ A second youtube ----There's also lining the inside (and outside) of a cardboard box with tinfoil, inserting skewers to hold a pan then slipping a pan of coals/embers underneath the food pan and close it all up. It works great for my oven! DO NOT leave camp using this. Coals or embers are not forest friendly - as you know 😢 ♥ Nothing will replace my cast iron dutch ovens but it's all fun and games out in the bush so 👍... Take care 😊 grandmum to 5 in 🇨🇦 (edited for spelling error)

@@TheoryofSimple OK, thank you, I must have misunderstood, I though you'd mentioned that you took out the back seats to make room for your camping setup.

@@jenharvey3397 no, I only folded the seats down. However, if I had remove the seats, it would’ve been more comfortable but I use this as my every day car and very rarely go camping so the seats stay in.😊

Hi Nexus! Quite honestly I didn’t know there was more than one size. I bought this a few years ago so maybe they’ve added another size of these but I would say it’s not the mini it’s about 12“ x 9“ open. I’ll have to visit that link and see if I can Figure out what size I have

Hi Samantha! The hammock that I’m using is a two person hammock by Eno. You can find this and my other camping gear on my Amazon store front. Check out this page from Theory of Simple www.amazon.com/shop/theoryofsimple I also have the mosquito net that you can use with a hammock. I didn’t use it this time because it was cold enough that mosquitoes weren’t out But I would definitely get the mosquito net as well. I hope you find some great things at my store front! You can also find the link to my storefront in the video description. Thank you so much for watching and commenting and happy camping!

Weren’t u scarred to sleep out esp being alone? Besides hiking what do u do all day do u don’t get bored?

  • @TheoryofSimple

Ki Kay, Since I was on private land I was not afraid of sleeping by myself. I had permission from the owners to camp there. I also know the area and I know there aren’t any bears or wolves or anything really dangerous so I wasn’t really scared of anything except getting eaten by mosquitoes! I do hiking during the day and go down to the river so that takes up most of the day. Sometimes I take a nap in the hammock. Believe it or not videotaping these things while I’m camping take up a lot of time to set up and I also do some editing while I’m out there so I’m never bored.

@@TheoryofSimple ty I want to do what u do but I too would have to be solo and it’s seems scary for me trying to talk myself into it will be ok. Also I can’t hike , disabled so I thought I would get a hobby to do. Ty luv your vids

  • @TheoryofSimple

    @TheoryofSimple

@@kayepperson189 yeah, being disabled puts a unique twist on solo camping. I will say that if you want to try it, I would start doing it at a campground where there is a camp host that understands your disability and the possible need for assistance and see if that camp offers any special activities that you may be able to participate in. Being around others in a camp may give you a feeling of some security and also allow you to see other people and socialize if that is what you want. Otherwise if you’re not having anything to do if you have a hobby such as maybe knitting or crocheting or journaling or art those might be things that you could do solo camping. I do hope you get a chance to spread your wings and explore some of these things because it really does give you a unique perspective on camping and nature in general. 🥰
