The most remembered part of Simple Minds' appearance at Nelson Mandela's 70th Birthday Concert in June 1988 at Wembley Stadium was their performance of Mandela Day, a song especially written for the event.
However, less remembered but equally extraordinary, was their cover of Summertime Blues (originally written by Eddie Cochran) with Johnny Marr (who'd just quit The Smiths) appearing as a special guest and performing an electrifying guitar solo.
