    Hi! Many of you have requested the full ingredient list for this recipe. You can find it here along with all my other recipes: thebitewithjackie.com/simple-middle-eastern-salad/ When you make this, let me know your thoughts by rating and leaving a comment under the recipe on my blog! Also: Contrary to popular belief, there is in fact NO meth in this salad. It is SUMAC. In Arabic, we say it "sm-MAC" or "sm-MA'" so I understand the confusion. Hope this helps!

    @@hoosiernative9668 It is best to avoid eating tomatoes and cucumbers together because their digestive processes are radically different. Eating these two can cause an imbalance in the body's acidic pH, which can result in bloating.

    In Russia we call it Cucumber and Tomato (=Ogurchik i Pomidorka) and it is by far the most commonly eaten salad. We often add onion, bell pepper, radishes and any fresh herbs that we like. In summer it drowns in herbs from the garden, so we call this variety "summer salad". We usually use salt and extravirgin sunflower oil or extravirgin olive oil, sometimes lemons and hot pepper and very rarely vinegar or spices. It's my favourite!

    Sumac is the key ingredient that for some reason she omitted naming it clearly in the video, though she did add to make this Salad Shirazi. Don’t forget to add it. It’s the true umami for this famous salad that you can find variations of throughout Middle East ( but in my unbiased view the best of them is this one, called salad Shirazi from Iran!)

  • @TheBitewithJackie

    @TheBitewithJackie

    I did not omit naming it. I called it by its Arab name "sm-MAC". Not "soo-mac". This version is Arabic salata. In my experience, shirazi salad doesn't contain sumac, and uses ab-ghooreh or extra lemon instead. They're very similar and we eat them the same way!

  • @ellf535

    @@TheBitewithJackie Arab or Persian, I did say they're all variations of the same salad found throughout the middle east, and Sumac is added to the Salad Shirazi that I'm familiar with. I've never tried it with ab-ghooreh but worth trying I guess. I actually add avocado to my version and it's delicious and creamy.
