I'm in Norway and we have generally short seasons. Last summer was the first time ever I had actual results with my tomato plants. I had things to pick at the end of the season. Yes, I ripened a lot of it fully indoors in a paper bag under a grow light, but they really responded to warmth and became red. It was glorious!

The tips on pruning tomatoes was very informative. I have always been a reluctant pruner with my tomatoes and last year I began to do more pruning with good results. I do like the comment of "Don't go mad" with the pruning. 😂 Pinching the top of the indeterminate plant when there are a 4 - 5 sections of fruit developing is something I have never done and now understand why it takes my tomatoes longer to ripen that what I desire. Great video the week and thought the hoodie colour was a good choice. Question for you: What fertilizer values (NPK) have you had the most success with your tomatoes?

It all depends what you mean by best and safest… everyone’s views are different. I don’t use repellents although a lot of folk will use companion planting or scented oils to try to either hide the plants or deter pests. In all honesty nothing completely works 100% Instead I just deal with the beasties, either squish, blast off with the hose or spray with soap

I'm finding the semi determinate growth an interesting challenge🤔. Nevertheless , I have my first fruit - yahoooo. And a lot of heavily flowered trusses. Do you limit the number of fruits on a truss? Or trusses on the plant? Or both or neither? And have you found that the fruiting branches need support? Advice will be gratefully received.

Hi Eli, sorry this is not tomato related but you did a video on Neem spray for plants and for the life of me I can’t find it! All I would like to know is the quantity of Neem, soap and water? I’m desperate! I have white fly on some of my plants and black fly on others! Please can you help?

here you go - I won't give you amounts cause there's a lot you should know before you use stuff on your plants.... however, for whitefly you might find a soap spray works quicker so I've given you both videos :D Again, they are long but worth watching cause it's important info. :D Soap Spray: kzread.info/dash/bejne/nHmYzLKpqbHWeMY.html Neem: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qoaJ0NKbiK_Nk9o.html

I started my courgettes last week, I mentioned in the video about how I wait till now because they grow fast and if you start them too early they get far too big to keep in the greenhouse. Can’t put mine out for a good 6 or 7 weeks yet

@@eliandkate thanks Eli , I worry about having to put them out in my cold-frame too early so I might wait a while yet , my last frost date is just before you at 2nd week in May x

Can I just ask, I assume you are heating your greenhouse, but what temperature are you maintaining? We have had 2 nights this week at -5, I have kept the greenhouse above 1.5 with my heater, but all my pepper, tomato and cucumber plants are in my heated vitapod still @ min of 15 degrees.

Yeah from the start of April is usually when I have the heater on at night in there if the temperature drops. I’m keeping it to 15c I’d hoped to keep the vitopod going instead but the tomatoes got to big for the 3 tiers I’d bought.

@@eliandkate yes mine are getting close to the top too, along with my melon, pepper and cucumber plants. The vitapod has been great though. Incidentally after you had your issue with your seedlings (lack of water) I proposed adding capillary matting to the vitapod, I did this and it has worked just fine.

I just made a point of taking more care. The vitopod is new for me and I’m still not sure if it… guessing it is really well sealed and water tight then?

I had a hard freeze and my black krims lived through it with a bit of protection. They can handle dips, they just can’t handle sustained low temps. It’s like they’re immune system shuts down and then suddenly they’re inundated with disease. If you have to cover them in black trash bags for a few days to conserve heat, do. They’ll be fine without the extra light for a bit, I promise.
