Simple DIY Upper Cabinets in Our Skoolie | BUS BUILD EPISODE 37

This week we framed the upper cabinets in our kitchen and bedroom. These cabinets will be the bulk of our food and clothing storage so we wanted to make them as large as possible and extra sturdy! As our first time building this style of cabinet, the process was actually pretty simple.

OMG....EVERY build I've watched, & I've watched hundreds, literally, have made building the cabinets SO DIFFICULT...even for the "seasoned builders", but you guys just unlocked a whole new level! I think everyone else over thinks it because of the curve in the bus but I AM IN AWE OF HOW EASY YOU GUYS JUST MADE THIS LOOK! You should patent that design before someone else does lol. Seriously, I've seen other bus/van lifers design a couch & shower pan & sell the design...why shouldn't you guys!?! I am glad to say that I've been one of your supporters from the beginning & have loved watching every step of the progress. When Emily said "Like cereal..." idk why that was so funny & cute & instantly made me think of a meme. That should be on some merch! I am still sitting here with my jaw to the floor at just how easy y'all made those cabinets & how great they look. I have seen it take others DAYS ON DAYS to build just one cabinet for their kitchen. Again, I think others have been over thinking it & you two just said "watch this" & TADAAAA! OK? I'll stop rambling about them but I'm just blown away...& we own a plumbing & electrical business so I've seen & been around professional builders so it takes A LOT to WOW me & you guys just did that! I can't wait to them finished. I just had to add this....lol, I've seen "SEASONED bus builders" work on one set of cabinets through 3 episodes & measure & cut, measure & cut, measure & cut & build this overly complicated "box" which ended up being exactly what you guys just built, but they built it outside of the bus carrying this massive "box" structure in & out a dozen times because something was always off a hair. Did I mention how you just blew my mind 🤯 🤣 🤣

Paige, WE are blown away! This is the nicest comment we’ve ever gotten 🥰 thank you SO much for all your kind words!! We seriously thought it was going to be so much harder based on all the videos out there. Thankfully, Gavin realized it could be simplified! Thank you so much for your support, hopefully we can continue to impress 😄🤞🏻

@@AdventureTrudge Awe, you're very welcome! You guys just proved that over thinking anything can make it more complicated than it should be. When I say I was blown away I mean I rewatched the kitchen cabinets 3 times! You guys made it look like you'd done this before. So many are intimidated by the overhead cabinets so they just put a shelf up. I have been obsessed with skoolies & alternative living for over a year & have narrowed down my favorite, "regulars" that I watch & anticipate a video from each week & your channel is obviously my top favorite. We've been searching for a bus to convert but when the prices started skyrocketing on buses & material we decided to wait until things start to (hopefully) go back to "normal"....or at least in that direction. I LOVED when you guys lit up as bright as the lights that you successfully wired! I almost cried! Coming from a plumber/electrician's wife, I was very impressed with how easy you made the plumbing & electrical look. It's so refreshing to watch you guys unafraid to learn & take on these new skills as they will always be of great use as you continue to build your future. Btw, I also may have cried a time or two while watching your wedding video. It was beautiful! You two seem to compliment one another perfectly & have the MOST BEAUTIFUL, CONTAGIOUS SMILES & personality! I find myself smiling along the entire time I'm watching your videos! Wishing you continued success on your build! You're beyond the most difficult stages & will be finished before you know it. I'm just as excited & looking forward to following you on your great adventures!

@@paige6028 You aren't the only one who cries watching our wedding video lol it gets me every time! Aside from our wedding, I think turning on our lights in the bus was one of the best moments of both of our lives. There was sooo much stress/research leading up to that moment, it was such a relief! You're smart to wait for prices to get back to "normal" (fingers crossed), it is not cheap building a bus right now. We're so happy to be one of your "regulars"! There's plenty more exciting things to come :)

You need to put insect screen on your windows with magnets so the air gets in but not the bugs...you could also put an upper cabinet above the bed on the other side

  • @AdventureTrudge

We are definitely going to make some screens that we can move around on open windows, magnets are a great idea! We are going to try and keep the headspace above the bed free for now so that we aren’t banging our heads when we sit up, but if we ever need more storage space it shouldn’t be too hard to add it in using the same method as the ones we just completed.

Great question! After gutting the bus we were about 13,000 lbs under our GVWR. We haven’t calculated how much weight we’ve been adding lately but from our guesstimating we still have some wiggle room 😊
