Some sports had that effect years ago. Swimming was that way prior to Phelps. Like when Van Den Hoogenband came out to beat Thorpe in Sydney. If you knew about his times, you knew he had a big chance. For most, though, he was the guy who came out of nowhere to go gold, gold, bronze in the 200, 100 and 50m. By Athens, the announcers were saying he was going to toy with the 100m field, and he got gold, again. Made for great drama in Sydney.

This needs replays from several angles in slow motion. Let’s see that again, Jim.

Daniel Tsen to put it in perspective - a double double tucked is one of the hardest skills in the world on FLOOR. shes doing a double double tucked in about half the air space she usually has when she does it on floor. its unreal.

I have a suspicion her size helps her alot. 4 foot 8 with rather short limbs seems like it would translate into faster rotations and preservation of energy. Closer to the center of mass you can get the better i would think??

Way to go Simone. I had to share this with my 10 year old gymnast niece. Her strongpoint is the beams and I knew she’d love this.

It may sound corny but I feel so lucky I've gotten to watch Simone over the years. She amazes me every single time I watch her. What a great role model our young athletes have. 👏

Man Im not gonna lie...gymnastic is pretty dope. She looked like she was in the matrix, I can't think of any other way to properly describe it.

After seeing this, the Olympic Committee for the next games decided to change the design of the gold medal in this event to have Simone's portrait engraved into it because it's inconceivable anyone else will win it.

Simone has not won a major title on beam since 2015 and was only bronze at both the 2016 Olympics and 2018 worlds. I do think she has a good shot to win gold with her new dismount, but she is still in no way unbeatable on beam like she is on floor, vault, or the All Around, especialy as she can be inconsistent and prone to mistakes.

I believe this is the greatest thing I have ever seen in sports in my 64 years on this earth. Way to go! America is behind you.

When I look back from her previous performances circa 2013-2016 she looks very happy. She performs best when she's happy, performing for herself and having fun.

Tim Daggett said that comment about "more palatable" because he knows that Simone Biles is a perfectionist and had been working on improving her beam for this year. Throughout the routine, Simone had little wobbles (which cause deductions in score). He is saying that for Simone, and according to the standards she sets for herself, that routine will be more "likable" or "palatable" for Simone's self-imposed standards because of the near perfect dismount at the end, whereas the start of the routine had several balance checks.

She is amazing!!!! Black girl magic at its Finest. I am so proud of her! Go Simone, Go!!!!

For years black people were told they could not participate or do things that white folks have been able to do. Not quite. People are catching up. Trinity Thomas did the Biles on floor night one. The only other woman to do it in competition. Plus Suni Lee was only 1.8 behind Simone in D score and she is just coming up from juniors so she will get stronger too. It's great to see her pushing all of womens gymnastics
