    Come on! Don't get caught up in the hysteria. We all know the Southgate Algorithm by now. The first decent team we come up against in the Knock-Out stages, we lose. Not because we don't have the players, but because we don't have the right manager. You need a proactive manager in these games who can read a game, foresee danger and mitigate against it before it happens by making changes. Instead we have a manager, who will be like a rabbit-caught-in-the-headlights, too scared to make changes before the 90+5 minute mark when Holland get a winner with the last kick of the match, with Koeman having made 5 changes during regulatory time and Southgate making none even though Holland were piling on the pressure in the second half. Southgate should be nowhere near this team.

  • @lemon_j22

    @lemon_j22

    13 күн бұрын

    Exactly. At this point hysteria/heart really overwhelms critical thinking. I'm an England fan too, and you can understand how we really just want us to win, because that's what it's all about hey. We want a celebration, we want to be winners. But leaving all that aside and putting myself in a purely neutral position and looking at the facts, we're highly likely to lose. I pretty much agree with you on how it will play out. My prediction is that we go 1 nil down, probably not too long into the second half. The first half is pretty open play (dare I say, even entertaining!), but we kind of cancel each other out so there's no goals. Anyway Netherlands finally score in the second half, around 55 mins. England know they can't play deep in this situation, and so our players are actually allowed to play to their capabilities. We get one back around the 70th minute mark. Then on come the brakes and we start to play ultra deep and hope for a lucky break from one of Pickford's perfectly aimed goal kicks (not), as per Southgate's usual actics (er I mean "tactics"). Although I blame Southgate for this, I also think that this deep playing mindset is compounded by the current egomania the England players have around their penalty taking abilities. If England had only just scraped through penalties, then I think some of the players may have somewhat ignored Southgate's antics and tried to intelligently play up the pitch more to get a win. The Netherlands pound our deep position for the rest of the game until they score the winner very late on. I was going to say I don't think it will go to extra time, but then the way England games play out I think the suffering will last as long as possible, so I reckon we will sit very deep all the way to near the end of extra time. I predict the Netherlands will score their second goal in the first half of extra time. Then England once again allow their players to actually play. But by this time the clock is ticking down, the pressure is so much that the plays from England are tinged with a desperation that affects their playing judgements. We get some very close chances, but no wonder miracle goals this time (because as entertaining as they are, they aren't realistic ways to ensure that you win. It's like playing 1-36 on the roulette table. Spectacular when your number lands, but you know it's likely not to). Koeman's boys keep cool heads and see it through. Then we all bemoan how we should never have gone so deep after the equalizer, how the players were holding out for penalties, yada yada. Anyway that's how I see it. PS: It could possibly go a very similar way, only with more goals, so it could be 3 - 2 to the Netherlands. I think it'll either be 2-1 or 3-2 to the Netherlands. But I'll go for 2 - 1 to the Netherlands. My heart hopes I'm wrong. But if you want a level-headed analytical prediction based on the facts, there it is.

  • @lemon_j22

    @lemon_j22

How can you get 'undeserved redemption' if you win the damn tournament and end the misery that we play songs about every two years?! I don't care how we play if we win. This isn't my club team, I recognise that its difficult to get international teams playing complicated football. Can you imagine if we did what Spain did? Get rid of a load of excellent players for the good of the team, and get all the players that grew up in the u21s instead of our superstars? There'd be carnage.

    Come on world, England will be found out! Half the the team ( Pickford, Trippier, Walker, Guehi, Rice, Trent ) don't have the ability to pass forward when pressure just a little, so how does the midfielders or forwards get the ball to create chance to score? Its been a struggle all throughout their last 5 games. It was painful to watch just how fortunate England is undeservedly in the semi. And with better passing teams like Germany, Portugal, Austria out, it has become a farce.

    No Surprise how Simon "The Expert" Jordan sees the world and what he consider "A leader". He has been bullshitting with an attitude all his life and has found people who think he knows something. I am just happy how the this show ratings are tanking... LOLOLOLOLOLOL

    England shouldn’t have got this far at all. No way this progress is deserved. Some of the players are world class, but they’re not able to show it having to play a dodgy system (up until the last game anyway) Southgate has done well. Last competition-a well played, close final. Closest to an international trophy in over 50 years but lately he doesn’t seem as switched on. Roll on preseason!!!

    Just had put best penalty shootout, an amazing goal from Saka and straight after Southgate’s changes. Don’t get how people can still give him stick it’s not luck he knows what he’s doing. Shame we seem to have to go down to light the fire but god sake I bet we could win and people will still moan.

    Of course we deserve it, we haven't been world class but who has? Its been a poor tournament, doesn't help that refs pull up the play every time someone falls over and don't get me started on VAR. But England are getting better and we absolutely deserve to be in the semis because we won our two knockouts and won our group. Simple as.

    He's so right, everyone forgetting the fact, that England got outplayed in the most part especially in extra time v the Swiss. I'm sure the luck will run out against the Dutch as England are so easy to play through, 2,3 passes right through the midfield and your straight onto the back 3 it's so easy and Southgate is an utter clown, so flukey getting to this stage and they'll finally get found out tomorrow.
