Crazy how this "spirit of the game" argument is brought upon the stumping but not walking if the umpire hasn't given you out, when you know you're out, is just an accepted part of the game? You've got a perfectly legal dismissal, school grade cricket basic kind of stuff, then there is lying and trying to bluff the umpire to benefit you and your team. Go figure

As an English man I didn't like the Bairstow dismissal but I also didn't think it was right that the Australian player who caught the ball then slid was denied the catch. Cricket and it's fans have to be careful were they draw the line with behaviour. Certainly the Aussies have given us plenty over the years on and off the field. Their media especially. The dinner stuff, grow a pair take it on the chin and learn from it.

Perhaps a more appropriate football example is if you are chasing for a win and an opposition player goes down and stays down (potentially time wasting/potentially hurt by himself) and ref doesnt stop play, you continue upfield to score a decisive goal....what happens then?

Look I've seen a few times when refs give a penalty then the fouled player has argued that it wasn't and got them to change their mind or missed the pen on purpose. When players go down youre sure that know they haven't been touched and claim a pen is infuriating especially when its given. In cricket when someone claims a catch and you're sure they know they haven't caught it clean but there is a always doubt that they might be genuine and not no and you have to begrudgingly accept it. This incident is similar in football, the Kanu goal in the cup for Arsenal against Sheff UTD or when a goal keeper has ball headed out of a single hand, Andy Dibble, or a attacker that went off the pitch and the keeper loses track of them and they come from their blind spot and score Shay Given, Rob Green, not against the rules but this time you know the action deliberate and intentional thats a big difference!

There are stories of the 1980s greats like Hughes and Border swearing at batsmen and bowlers and using banter and mind games. They only retained the Ashes due to England bottling the first two Tests and the rain. The late, great Warney God rest his soul got done for ball tampering.
