Silverwing Long-Tip: Blender for C4D Users PT4 Rendering (In C4D Blender Octane & Cycles)

MESSAGE:
Hello everyone. This is the last part of our Blender for C4D artists series. I hope you enjoyed it, had a good ride and understand some of the functionality better now. This video is all about render-settings, output-paths as well as general optimization, comparing Blender Cycles as well as Blender Octane to Octane in Cinema 4D. In the next weeks I want to concentrate on materials in my Tutorials once more. As Rene, a Patreon, suggested I will go over some materials and explain my thought process in converting them from real world to shader.

As an old skool Blender user I really appreciate what you are doing here. The lack of render tokens is something that bugs me on a daily basis, while it should be so trivial to support.

Thank you so much for your great comment and your insights. Great to hear that I am not the only one on the Token front ha ha. Tokens and multi pass output was a real headscratcher for me. I thought about how this would be handled on a big production scale. But then I think those people have their own coders who can write addons for stuff like this.

hello hello, been a while haha, I'm finally back from my short trip and started binge-watching what I missed, an amazing tutorial, rendering 🎬 in Blender was foreign to me, never tried to do an A to Z project in Blender but now I feel like I got the ropes thanks to you Raph I noticed one small benefit other than what you mentioned to working on octane c4d other than blender which is slightly smaller file sizes, however, I'm not sure as this could be some math wizardry in the light value that's different but not perceptible, or a little bug interesting seeing the density go up that much in the random walk node, intuitively I treated the density as a percentage and the radius as a multiplier of sorts due to how the node looks like in c4d because they have the radius in cm units, this made me approach it differently, instead of upping the density I use a float texture in the radius to make it smaller and multiply the float by and RGB spectrum or a gaussian spectrum if I felt fancy that day 😂 see you in yesterday's video comments 😂🎬

Hey hey. There you are. Thank you very much for your nice message again. About the file size: Not sure what you compared. If it was some scenes from my projects the Blender files are always bigger because they contain all the textures. You can pack them in there so they do not get lost. A very nice feature I think. If it was about your own files, yes Blender files are a bit bigger to start with. But you can compress them. I show that here in the video. And this gets them really really tiny usually. So it´s probably not an advantage / disadvantage. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pIynmcWRj7a5Z5s.html It just occurs to me that you were speaking about the image output files. Those should be the same size given the same compression levels. EXR Half Float DWAB with Compression Level 45. If they are not, I guess it´s more about the noise and colors in the image then a "bug". About the Random Walk. I think what you did is really the same. Lowering the radius also make the SSS more dense. I think you can do either way with it. I just come from the traditional Scattering Medium in Octane where you do not have a Radius and hence had to increase the Density to get "thicker" sss. Fun fact. I still use the Scattering medium over Random Walk most of the time 😇 Cheers and thank you again for your time, support and energy 🙌 ✨🎬✨

Thank you very much for your comment. I think I would be able to make Houdini tuts too. But I would need at least a Year and a person that I can ask anything 24/7. I actually have used Houdini some times in the past. When I worked at Axis Animation for example. But I mostly did staging and lighting in there. So no sims. I hope you have a good time viewing this vid. I f you want let me know what you thought after watching it ✨

Things like lacking token/take system/save single file support are the reason why I still consider Blender a toy, rather than a serious production tool, which is sad. 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬great video as always! ❤

Thank you very much for your comment. Yeah it´s a bit tedious. But I would not degrade it as Toy. As the stuff you can do with it can be the same quality as of other production tools. I think it´s some (sometimes huge) quality of life improvements that it´s lacking. Also a lot of it could be overcome with a bit of programming experience! Thank you so much for the ✨🎬✨ Appreciate your support 🙌

Thank you so much for these series! I have learned so much from you in the past! I have a small problem when setting up the SSS, around 29:29, when you unplug the Albedo and set to color to Black. Then my keycap looks extremely dark. Have I missed something?

Thank you very much for your comment. Hmmm. Small check list here: - Have you set your Universal Material to "Diffuse Transmission" - Are you using the Path Tracing Kernel (I think Direct Lighting is the standard) - Do you have a high enough Ray Depth (8 Diffuse, 8 Scattering should be enough) - If your scene is in real world size, you can decrease the Ray Epsilon to 0.00001 There might be more factors, but I can´t think of more at the moment. Fingers crossed one of those helps you to get the result shown in the video! Cheers and a great weekend to you 🙌

Hi, could someone provide an unbiased comparison between Redshift and Octane as of 2024? I'm curious about their speed differences. I've heard conflicting opinions on whether Octane is as fast as Redshift. I currently use Arnold GPU, it looks really good, but it's quite slow on complex scenes and lacks several features. On interior scenes it's basically unusable. By the way, Silverwing, I've watched some of your tutorials and they're incredibly helpful. You're a treasure trove, and I hope Octane acknowledges your contribution and paying you some sweet $ :D considering you're essentially providing free marketing for them.

  • @SilverwingVFX

Hey there and thank you very much for your comment. It´s very hard to get a really unbiased review going since there are so many aspects that need to be taken into account. As a short summary I would say Redshift is better for large scene projects that have tons of polys / objects and materials. It can chew through those and looks good with detail. Octane in contrast is good with simple scenes where subtle lighting is very important. Also it´s incredible good at rendering glass. There of course is a lot more to it then that. But this is the essence I always think of when starting a project. If I have some time, I will make a comparison. In the meantime I add your request to my list of good ideas! Also thank you very much for your kind words. I really appreciate it! Besides my Patreon, which really help me pay some of my bills. This is not a thing to get rich unfortunately. I hope the sweet Dollars your are mentioning will show up at some point 😍 Until then I am keep living my spartan lifestyle 😇 Cheers and a great start into the weekend to you and an awesome time!
