Great work! That little Silvertone is probably easier to play than it ever was, it actually sounds much better than I expected it to.

I have one almost just like this I picked up today with no bridge and no strings, but I plan to give restoration a go. Thanks for this!

Such a cool guitar; love it. Good call on routing the saddle slot and installing the bone saddle! Much more stable than the shimming idea, for the ling haul, plus it’s got to be an improvement in tone. It nice next to the white pickguard, and more important allows for future adjustments. Great job.

Well, that was quite the long haul but it was certainly worth it. That's a lovely little instrument and now it can make music for another fifty years or so. Cheers mate, I enjoyed every minute. So. What's next?

I have one also. Jut about to rebuild the nut and put different tuners on it. The tuners on mine are badly bent.

Not a bad save. I have the same guitar I was going to practice repairs on, probably convert to baritone. I've seen a few people add pickups to these up against the end of the fretboard to give it more bass. I'm almost considering removing the last two frets on the board and put a pickup between the hole and the (new) end of the fretboard. That area is pretty useless to play on. Probably a terrible idea lol.

Nice restoration but was it worth it? It's obviously an entry level instrument even at the time. That was a lot of work for a plywood box imo.

Thank you! Monetarily it probably doesn’t make sense, but to restore these old solid birch bodies Guitars, especially the 604 it’s always fun to do. Silvertone actually has a re-issue of the same guitar that they made the bodies out of Spruce and mahogany. I think you can buy one brand new for around $300. Thanks for the comment. Cheers.

@@vindustrialguitars I know even Gibson did it but I always think it's a sin that manufacturers used screws on the top to mount the pick guard and bridge, kind of like Luther or blasphemy. Since you were restoring, I understand why you re-used them, but I would have been tempted to do a new glue on pick guard and a bridge without the two screws.
