Silverback Gorilla Father And Baby Daughter's Amazing Moments

Some amazing moments between the silverback and his baby daughter. Thandie the little baby gorilla is cuddling into Dad's foot. A close-up shot shows her beautiful face. His daughter continues to play around him while he's having a bit of a snooze.
Back at Dad's leg she cuddles into him and plays with the straw. When Dad suddenly awakes, he moves her closer to his face. There Thandie touches her dad on his face. It's so wonderful to see the big Silverback keeping calm and letting his daughter play. Thandie is definitely a daddy's girl! Matadi gets himself a stick and Thandie grabs hold of it with her hands and feet. Matadi watches his daughter while having a nibble on the stick. A sweet moment when Matadi gently strokes her with his finger. Mum Mayani is sitting next to the two. The interaction between the two really gives you happy tears.:-) I was enjoying the moment so much when unfortunately Mum decided to take Thandie away from Dad, pulling her towards her and then she grabbed the stick as well. The Silverback moves and puts his legs up in the air. Some close-up shots and at the end some more and some more precious moments between Dad and daughter, before Mum takes Thandie away again.
Hopefully, you've enjoyed the series as much as I did making it. Antwerp Zoo was a pleasure to film, even though there was a lot of glare from windows that were everywhere, but that also meant a lot of angles to be able to view the gorillas.

The Antwerp Gorilla Troop:
The Silverback Matadi: Born on the 25th of May 2003 at the Twycross Zoo in England to Ozala and Ti. Ozala, as many of you know is still at Twycross Zoo with her family. Ti passed away on the 26th Feb 2007, the cause of it was a stroke.
Mayani ( The Mate of Matadi) was born on the 6th of December in Barcelona. Mayani got moved to the Antwerp Zoo in 2017 I believe.
Their daughter Thandie was born on 26.11.2018
Mambele was born in Hanover Germany on the 21 Feb 1999 and was moved to Antwerp on the 22nd August 2011.
Beautiful Amahoro is I believe an Eastern Lowland Gorilla born in the year 1990. She has a stunning deep black coat without any obvious single grey hair. At 160kg she is a very powerful female. In comparison, Silverback Oumbie weighs 190kg!
Sadly Matadi passed away on the 9th of October 2023, leaving his young family behind. He was such a gentle giant. RIP Matadi. You won't be forgotten. Antwerp Zoo wrote cause of death was "due to a double respiratory infection (COVID-19 and Bordetella) with additional complications."

Why would she see a "monstrous beast"? Its like saying your girlfriend sleeps in the same house as a monstrous beast because her dad is an overprotective father who also happens to be a body building army general or something.

Just like human babies, animals sometimes do not let daddy or mommy sleep. In this case, it was daddy's turn not to sleep. But honesty, dad did not seem to mind and actually enjoyed his daughter next to him. So peaceful to watch.

This is so amazing. Here is this huge animal that could probably lift a car. He could snap anyone of us in two with little effort. To stand beside him would make anyone or anything afraid. Yet here is this tiny girl putting her fingers in his mouth and her foot in his face, interrupting his nap.To her, he’s just “daddy” the big pushover.

, yes, he is. Most male gorillas are not that attentive to their babies.
So heartbreaking he’s gone now. He loved his daughters so much.
The view of Thandie's body next to her dad's foot is indicative of how big Matadi is in relation to his baby, it's almost bigger than she is! This is a well balanced family, Mayani is not uptight with Matadi being close interacting and bonding with Thandie. Thx SV for another heartwarming video....

Not sure how I missed this one. The shots are amazing. It really says a lot about Matadi that Mayani trusted him to be in such close contact with Thandie when she was this young. Many other encounters like this I have watched, the mom swoops in when she sees the youngster getting too near the silverback. Really touching. Thanks!!

To see something that huge, especially a male of the species, being so gentle with the baby is absolutely amazing.

This video is the best because it's so difficult for Mom to allow baby to be that close to dad. Sweet loving and tender moments between dad and daughter. Her foot was about the same size as his finger. Excellent video!!

Gorillas always amaze me. They are such immensely powerful animals, but they can also be so gentle and loving.

If u watch them its hard for me to even call them animals,pretty close to human!!they may eat differently and obviously they live outdoors soEVERYTHING is done outdoors but the interaction with their babies and with their families is quite if not EXACTLY like us and thats not mentioning just how much they resemble us!!

Well, humans are animals, too. And both humans and gorillas are great apes. We share a lot of genes and a lot of behaviors with gorillas.

@@finn54123 Anti-gorilla sentiment used to be a big problem back in the day. Fortunately it has declined due to the work of Dian Fossey, Carl Akeley and George Schaller.

@Voracious Reader , because of how Momo tries to get close to Kintaro and watches for Mom's permission.I know they are strong and have to die down their strength for the baby. But Momotaro has shown a lot of restraint and respect of Moms wishes to keep away but you can see in his behavior he wants to interact with his son. The siblings and Father always seem fascinated by a new baby. Also, How can you say "how do i know?" when I can also ask you, "How do you know he doesn't? You are accusing me with assuming when you are doing the SAME damn thing. Dads usually are very gentle with the babies. Genki is a very nervous Female and with Gentaro being taken to be hand reared for her milk not coming in and returned later to Mom, she has no doubt a protective instinct more for Kintaro maybe because she fears him being taken away too. Anyway, this comment was months ago. Maybe you don't watch Momotaro's family or know the history? Anyway, not sure why "I" was targeted for your comment alone.Im agreeing to the original post. Seems you are the one out of the loop of this comment thread here.

Mary Eddy I disagree, there’s a night and day difference in temperaments between Matadi and Momotaro. Momo has never looked at Kintaro with this kind of gentleness and love.

I feel I need to jump in here, unfortunately I only saw this post now. @Voracious Reader reading through all your comments you made on this channel I'm not sure why you're still watching any of it. It seems nobody can say or do the right thing. You don't let people have their own opinions on how they see things, calling people arrogant and silly. You don't like my "amateur filming" and calling me some other names. I never proclaimed I know it all, I write things as I see them. This might not be scientifically correct or to your taste, so it might be better to choose a different channel to watch and comment on. Maybe a more scientific channel would be more suited. Where you can argue about what is right or wrong.

Hi @SloggerVlogger, I visited the beautiful Antwerp gorilla family today and they say HI to you 😍 Thandie was cute and active as ever. Baby Vizazi is soooo small compared to her. Mama Mambele took good care of V but also drank her own milk when feeling thirsty 😉 They were all enjoying a chill sunday afternoon, except for BUSY toddler Thandie. (I have a nice picture of new mama+baby+toddler but I dont know how to post it here)
