    Thanks a lot. Good job. Pictures really add a lot to a story, especially perhaps Silmarillion. Without pictures it is apt to become a confusing tangle of names and places. But if I seek pictures of the characters myself in the internet, I find pictures throughout the book and the events happening in future chapters that I have not read are revealed. I prefer not to know beforehand how books are ending. Then the only possibility not to "spoil" the story is to find videos where pictures are neatly ordered, like you have done here. It's the best and most thorough Silmarillion illustrated channel I have managed to find. You are using new artists that I have not seen before, like people with Slavic names and they are very good. For example, Katarzyna's Maeglin-cycle is very good. It really adds life to the story. Also, your maps and animations are good. If you have strength and wish and inspiration, you might order pictures for some other Tolkien works also. For example, I intend to continue reading the Two Towers after I am through the Silmarillion and then I would look if there are videos where the pictures are ordered according to chapters. It's much easier than searching for all pictures myself. Thank you once again.

    I've always felt a great swell of pity for Maedhros. He genuinely hated the fact that he was bound to the Oath, and he did squirm and tried to rebel against it, but in the end had to give in to his brother's pressure and let's face it, the Oath itself. He at least was decent, and found himself in an irreconcilable position. Maglor, too, was at least content to see Earendil's star in the sky, safe eterntally from Morgoth.

    Having gone through the Quenta Silmarillion, I found the story to have a sort of agonizing quality to it. If the Noldor could just get their Silmarils back then that would resolve most of the conflicts, but of course that isn't possible. To see Melkor finally defeated and the Silmarils recovered is deeply gratifying and cathartic. However due to Tolkien's dense prose style here I don't think I could have properly comprehended all of it without these remarkable videos! Onto the final two chapters...

    And so it ends, in Tolkien bittersweet style. I wish we had more material about Eärendil and Elwing, their life was hard, but over and over they made the right choices, and though we have few words, we can see how great they love each other and how great they are.

    I wonder if the Silmaril that Maedhros carried with him into the gaping chasm of fire was the same stone that the was found in the future by the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain "Heart Of The Mountain".

    It's a fun thought, to be sure. But the Arkenstone was indeed cut and fashioned by the Dwarves - something no one besides Fëanor would be able to do if the stone were a silmaril. Alas, I think that Maedhros's silmaril is lost forever within the earth that now lies under the waves.

    I know - I wish there were more in there. If you have access to the book series The History of Middle-earth, you can find chapters called The Annals of Beleriand that may contain some information not found in The Silmarillion. But as far as a full-on description goes, I'm afraid this is all we have.

  • @lfwinesroad3399

    @lfwinesroad3399

    That's an interesting question. We don't really get much detail from the book as to how big he actually was. But I might say his wingspan is a few miles long. I mean, he needs to be as impressive and imposing as possible, so our imaginations are the only limit. I imagine "breaking the mountain apart" means that once he falls onto Thangorodrim, this impact is so great that it causes many cracks in the rocks and eventual landslides. And then earth tremors follow, which spread out in waves throughout Beleriand.

    So to recap: there's only 2 grandsons of finwë left at the end of the quenta silmarillion right? Maglor and Lady Galadriel, and if so, would the tittle of king or Queen of the Noldor would go to Lady Galadriel? If there's such thing after the big and "ultra violent" war against melkor?

  • @lfwinesroad3399

    @lfwinesroad3399

    Жыл бұрын

    Correct! Maglor and Galadriel are still left. And that's a good question about who gets to be high king of the Noldor. The title goes to Gil-galad. In the published Silmarillion (which is what these videos are based on), he is the son of Fingon. In later versions of the legendarium, he is Orodreth's son. Either way, he is still in a direct line of a more senior line than Galadriel because she's in the youngest line (or rather, at the end of the line of grandchildren of Finwë). I hope that's clear! 😅😊

    @@lfwinesroad3399 ohhh So I get it now!!! I was under the impression that it was in order to Finwës line directly, but it makes sense as it is really going more under Fingolfin's line, kind of how the royals line works, and also, is Gil Galad older than Galadriel? Was he a Calaquendi?

  • @lfwinesroad3399

    @lfwinesroad3399

    @@chatterllysrivera5460 Ah, you bring up another good point. Since Maedhros gave up his title of high king after Fëanor died, it passed to Fingolfin, then Fingon his eldest and then Gil-galad (according to the published Silmarillion). But if Gil-galad were Orodreth's son, then the line of succession would go: Maedhros to Fingolfin to Fingon (who in later versions of the story has no children) to Finrod to Angrod, then to his son Orodreth, then to his son Gil-galad. Phew! Haha, that's a lot to remember 😄 Galadriel is older than Gil-galad. I'm not 100% sure if Gil-galad is Calaquendi, though. It's kind of unclear in the stories.
