I agree. Sh2 isn’t everyone’s favourite anyway. A lot of people prefer the original. I’m not one of them, silent hill 2 is my favourite. But I’d much prefer they remade the first one. At least to the standard of the resident evil 1 remake.

Angela and how they treat her story is going to be THE KEY to see if they really understood and respected the heart and soul of the original game, I'm sad to say that I'm almost certain they won't have the balls to do it and thus tarnish the name of such important work of art as Silent Hill 2

YES. Dude, I've been saying this from the beginning. Angela's story is by far the darkest in the game and everything from her look and mannerisms reflect that in the original. She's 19 I believe but looks like a grown woman in her 30's and she wears clothing that covers her entire body. Maria/Mary being noticably pretty works. Angela should be made to look worn to reflect her trauma

The problem there, was those games were designed for a CRT, where the noise effect works. With new HD and 4K panels, it simply doesn't work the same. Bloober has included the noise effect in their past games though.

@@huzidamasta Oh I didn't mean sound effects, I meant the grainy texture on the screen. In 2-4 it's on by default, but you can turn it off in options. When you do, it makes you realize how important it is for the atmosphere!

The Last Of Us 1 and 2 both have the film grain on by default, so not all modern games have forgotten the impact it can have....so I'm hoping SH2R follows the same recognition because in the case of SH2, it's essential imo. It needs to be muddy.

I truly hope this game is amazing, and blows everyone’s expectations clear out of the water.

Interesting that they actually did a Sonic and changed how James looks. I'm still extremely skeptical given both the dev and the publisher's reputations but hey, you never know. People liked RE4R even though most fans wanted it left alone. We'll see.

It's unfortunate that the new character designs don't bring along the uncanny look of the original. Games trying to look more and more realistic and detailed is cool and all, but sometimes it's a mistake. A lot of the atmosphere comes from the limitations.

Look at Jacob's Ladder and tell me why it wouldn't look amazing with realistic graphics

In my personal opinion, James is never intended to be viewed as an action hero from the start. he's just a guy who's looking for someone, and is in panic with his surrounding. So bumping the action in the remake will sure make the game feel different than the original. With the action bumped up, I feel like feeling of panic that we felt in the original game will be toned down significantly, and won't hit as hard as the original.

They bizarrely released a combat trailer as though that were a main focus. I don't think it's gonna be intensive, however it does look better than the clunky original combat. As much as I love the original, shooting guns and swinging melee sucked. But yes regardless this game should focus more on atmosphere and ambivalence and telling the story and portraying the characters.

My take on the clunky combat in the original, is that it was intentionally clunky to give us the narrative that James is not a fighter or an action protagonist, more like a panicked man who doesn't know what tf is happening around him 🤣🤣🤣

@@MrNocturnal310 well they didn't release it, apparently Konami has been in charge of releasing anything marketing or teaser related. Comes across like them reassuring people that the clunky combat is being worked on so that the game feels better. Not really a reason to be worried imo, the original's combat sucked ass and like many others, I love the game to death lol. It feels like the marketing has been really odd for it, probably to appeal to a wider audience considering it is a 20 year game. I am optimistic about the actual game itself being accurate to the original in the ways that matter. The director in charge of the remake iirc even said on Twitter that Konami's marketing for the game sucks and it is giving people the wrong impression of what the remake will be like/what is being changed/etc.

@@foragerimp3753 Yeah I heard there was a disconnect between Blooper and Konami regarding advertising. Hopefully that doesn't spell anything bad. The old clunky combat was a technical limitation of the time. But if it were purposeful then I think it would be cool for James to start out as a purposely terrible fighter with hard controls, but then you slowly master them and James starts improving as he delves deeper into Silent Hill. (Becoming more perceptive of darkness, faster and more calculated swings, sleight of hand, weilding a gun more confidently, etc)

Silent Hill is psychological horror with small parts of action, and has occult themes with deep characters and lore that are actually relatable and horrific enough that it's realistic to those who experience heavy trauma. If Yamaoka is involved in sh2re then I have faith in the soundtrack for this game at the very least~

Bloober hasn't been shy about dark themes in their games, to the point they got criticized for the portrayal of the wife and Painter's reaction to her....because how dare depictions of mental health not be done with kid gloves.

if you ever played an early ps2 or any ps1 gen game you would know EXACTLY why. the whole fixed camera angle and position AND control direction would be the worst nightmare for modern day gamers, 80% would demand a refund within hours claiming the game is unplayable like a bunch of babies. i think its so much better this way in terms of general playability and accessibility

I just hope the sound design is on point. In terms of audio, Silent Hill 2 was a masterpiece that managed to convey emotions and moods to the player through the sounds used

I think no matter what happens honestly, even if the game is good the og fans will just hate it so I feel like there’s a no win situation here I truly hope the bloober team pulls a amazing game out of here. I will be entering with a open mind

Yea that's seemingly true. Have you been on the Silent Hill subreddit ? 😬😬😬 It can get really bad. Especially if you mention a specific game (HD Collection) they will turn into rage and hate. I'm genuinely looking forward to the Remake. When we do get a date I'm gonna load up SH2 HD on my PS3 and do a playthrough before it comes out. Just like I do with the RE games 😎

that's why you ignore those people in the fanbase lol. I love Silent Hill and am optimistic that the game will be fine, but a lot of the fanbase will just find any reason to assume it will be bad. Especially people that think the remake will be made similarly to Resident Evil.. The people doing the remake aren't stupid, and even though Konami high-key sucks in a lot of ways, they wouldn't let someone fuck up something as big for them as a Silent Hill 2 remake. (iirc) when the director in charge of the remake itself publicly says on Twitter that Konami's marketing was not run by them and is not representing the remake properly, I feel like there's a pretty good chance things end up ok.

i mean james technically was a POS if you followed his story closely; his wife was on her deathbed from illness, he cheated on her with a nurse, then she died, and he couldnt cope with his guilt or admit he was in the wrong, among many other things. the pyramid heads were symbolic of his layers of ego, and the nurses were like his regret for giving into temptation or something along those lines.

I liked the older looks better. What a bummer...

As long as it doesn’t feel like Alan Wake or Silent Hill Downpour we’re good. It needs depressing horror themes and aesthetic. Rust, blood and FOG

Silent Hill has been my object of infatuation since I was only 4 years old watching my mother play in the living room with me in her lap. My mother got startled so easily lol.😂 But when I got older I was prepared, until I played SH4. This one and SH4 have been the only two of the entire series that has made me legitimately TURN THE GAME OFF and not come back to it for weeks simply because of how scary they were. I love Silent Hill so I always end up revisiting the games and beating them. But best believe it STILL has this affect on me. 😭 I'll get so terrified and shut the game off immediately. In short, this remake better have that same affect lol!

This is great news to hear! I can't wait to play the game when it's out.

The one thing I’m worried about is the fact Blooper and Konami can’t communicate and agree on progression. Blooper being unaware a trailer was being released was very worrying Both companies must know, if this bombs/isn’t perfect, they are both over forever. The fans will never have confidence in them again.

There's only so much I expect out of a game to which I already know the plot. If anything, I'd enjoy seeing more context and interaction between the characters for what little time they share on the screen together. Worst case scenario, this is fanservice and the original still holds up.

Hopefully around the time it is announced or released they also do it for the SH2 movie

It makes sense why they did 2 first. Depending on this games success it’s a stand alone story. SH1 and SH3 are the only games connected to each other. If they get this right that opens the door for them to do the first game next and follow up with its direct sequel SH3.

Bloober already clarified what was said in the article- they're breaking away from games that are essentially walking sims, find objects, some puzzles, and character speaking as they walk/find things to tell the story. The atmosphere was the only way the story was told. Whereas even in the OG SH2, the monsters we fought were an integral part of the story and atmosphere.

We want silent hill PT full game, we all have already played silent hill 2.

I'm excited for this one, I never played the games and have been doing my research on the original. I hope it turns out good.

Honestly, why it’s so hard to figure out a good remake with these games just blows my mind. When too much is changed, that’s what takes away from the original formula that worked to begin with. They could easily take the old games, update the graphics, then add to it that way. Keep the original formulas then add to it. Don’t make it a completely brand new game. Also keep elements of the old ones. What I would suggest.. require if I was a developer.. EVERYONE has to play the original game. Everyone. Keep the nose effects. People should get a feel of there actual classics from these games too. Create the nostalgia that touched people’s hearts back in the day. Camera angles are a must. Combat is wildly important to keep the same. I just.. yeah, idk. I hope it works out. Really do. I wish we had team Silent doing the projects. They were just so phenomenal together. They understood what these games needed more than anyone and if they all reunited oh my god. Something about the Japanese with horror games, they just create a masterpiece when they set out to do it. It really makes you respect how other cultures view specific genres. Miss team Silent.

My interpretation of the statement: Our new SH remakes will not be focused on storytelling like the titles that we have published until now, such as the Medium, Blair Witch, Layers of Fear, etc. By comparing any SH title with previous Bloober titles, SH contains, after all, much more action. Therefore, they will be faithful to the original titles.

There's also another way to interpret the "horror through action" statement. Action doesn't exclusively have to mean action games or combat, it can also just be the act of doing something that influences events in a different way. I'm not saying that's necessarily the case here, but since those are translated statements, we should take them with a grain of salt. Especially since the statement didn't directly say "combat", but "action".

I think the combat would have been the one thing I'd want to improve about the original. Improving it was a good move. Looking forward to seeing the result!

Maybe SH2 is the most famous one in the series. If SH2 succeeds, at least remake on SH134 also other ones won’t be a failure too hard. I’m sure if SH2 remake successful, they will do other remakes (just like Capcom RE remakes), also probably finishes the Silent Hill PT!

I bet this relates to Halloween Horror Nights! The timing is there with the last trailer released from Universal somewhat hinting at… maybe… Silent Hill!

I think if we got a true classic collection of 1-3 like MGS before the remake comes out, all this would go over much better with us fans, I am hyped for snake eater delta because if it sucks I can go play the OG on master collection.

Being Polish and having this Polish mindset, I think they meant that by "telling story through action" they originally meant that we don't walk and look at things unveiling without our involvement, but we actively do something which sparks the next story beat. Which would be in line with SH's style of storytelling.

That action comment could be referencing silent hill because you can defend yourself. Whereas, in say Medium or Blair Witch or Layers of Fear you used the environment to get past enemies. You didn't shoot them with weapons or hit them with bats.

Yeah i think it will come out in October this year and also be alot like the original game too.

Can they do the full series? Maybe it would give the original creators the idea of finishing PT and making the full game.

I really hope jamming ‘X’ to get out of a bind isn’t all it takes for an effective evasion from monsters… the original had no prompt whatsoever and so you freaked out pressing everything, and if I’m not mistaken the less you tried the faster you got out of said bind

We really didn't see the first one coming, nor the creepiness in sickland. Why see this coming until, The Jumps?

At this point I'm afraid of laying eyes on this game. I've been thinking of replaying Enhanced Edition after finishing SH3 and I don't want that spoiled by a probable dumpster fire.

okay, I'm hearing you on the action thing. Action in a horror game needs to be there, but not soooo much that it becomes an arcade shooter, ya know? Blooper MUST use enemies sparingly but threateningly. I think the way it worked in the original was, you HAD to start with a melee weapon, and kinda learn to use it, but a lot of people just avoid battle. You then SLOWLY collect ammo, in various places, not a lot mind you, then you walk into a hallway of like 4 of them, unfortunately, that wasn't quite enough ammo to completely do the job. You know? its that kind of approach that'll make it, forcing you to use weapons you don't really want to use. fingers crossed!

This might be wishful thinking but if the remake turns out good then the other projects Bloober might be working on are on remakes of Silent Hill 1, 3 and 4 that is unless the remake becomes a flop and Konami decides to can the projects.

I don’t think they should have changed James’s new look, I liked it. It looked more realistic but I’m perhaps in the smaller group of fans who feel this way 🤷‍♂️

Same, I loved how he looked in the original remake trailers. Very handsome man!

Honestly I'm glad they switched it to a closer to the original James looked like he was in very late 20s to early 30s and well to be honest the original remake's design looked like James in a way but in others it felt like it wasn't.

"This will also be the first title in which we depart from the so-called 'environmental storytelling', and in the foreground, we put the action through which we will tell the story,". PLEASE everyone stop overthinking this stuff. It literally just means, their new games will no longer just be "walking simulators" as many like to call it. SH2-R will be... shocking... a "Silent Hill" game that includes... shocking... alot of combat. Yes, the original games had plenty of combat that was part of the experience, as well as the environmental story telling (and lots of notes to read). Sometimes... things don't get translated 1:1 from Polish to English... but this statement is nothing to worry about.

@@vishalrane5152 A simple dodge, yes.... but anything more than that and there will be rioting, as many fans don't want that in SH games... as was shown when they tried adding it to older titles.

I kinda liked his more realistic look.

sh1 is part 1 sh3 is part 2 sh2 is part 1 sh4 is part 2 my favorites are sh2 and sh4 because i liked those stories more

I wonder why they chose to remake the second one over the first one!. Me personally I am hoping for a remake of 3 one day.

i hope the game is good. and they are not pushing it out cuz of gta 6 being announced to come out next fall. really want this to be a good game

OMG NO! I LOVED James' face in the remake trailer! He was gorgeous! But I guess this one is fine, too... Looks a bit more like the original James. I will get used to it, either way! :)

James initial new look was fine. Nobody gives a shit about James Sunderlands appearance...

Blooper saying theyre going to start focusing on action more vs their environmental storytelling isn't necessarily a bad thing. All the games you listed, LoF, Observer, even The MEDIUM had practically NO action gameplay whatsoever... 2 or 3 times during the course of a game they may have a chase or hide sequence which is the closest they get to any kind of action. That is assuming the "action" they focus on is worth focusing on in the 1st place. It sounds to me like, when making SH2, they were forced to add in action combat (because its SH2 and Bloopers older games have less action than Silent Hill) and now that they have people to do combat n such, they are going to start taking advantage of it. I'm glad personally... their games could certainly use a bit more going on gameplay wise.. just hope it's good.

Well I'm not shocked but I'm also not entirely disappointed, this is a remake and Konami does like to take their games and just try to make a quick buck anymore, I sure wish they didn't take away Hideo Kojimas project away, I still wonder if that would have been the saving grace the series needed since both director of Silent Hill 1 and Kojima were not horror type people

Im skeptical, but I think it’s really unfair to judge until it comes out. Konami has been doing a piss poor marketing job, but that’s kind of par for the course with them lol. They probably shouldn’t have announced it so early tbh

I doubt it. But I hope it does, a timed exclusive. I feel you not wanting to pick up a whole console just to play it. I feel like this about stalker 2 coming to Xbox and not ps5.

It should come to xbox around 1 year later, after the PS exclusive period ends. Bloober makes their games for pretty much everything.

Exclusives are kinda worthless now anyway. People will not buy a whole new console for just 1 or 2 games since there is a flood of games out there and statistics shows that they will make more money if they publish it on any platform. The only platform this works for right now is Nintendo.

@@DeSch0ft I’m pretty sure exclusives would still work as a marketing point for buying consoles if Sony actually bothered to make more games. I can’t wait for this “7 years to develop” sh!t to end. Afaik the only real PS5 exclusive is Demon’s souls. I know a lot of people bought a ps4 to play bloodborne, so the strategy does work, it’s just Sony isn’t bothering to make good games for the PS5.

Just another game I get to save money on by not being able to buy it, i'll just watch someone else stream it instead

hopefully i'm not spoiling too much by saying this, but if they changed his face to match the original more closely, then good...because the other one was wayyy too anxious = self aware. original james was suffering from some kind of disassociative state or amnesia so he appeared far less anxious because he doesn't remember anything. remake james looks anxious throughout the trailer and therefore far too aware, at least far too early in the game...... the hand wringing actions and what not should be toned down too. It gives too much away (just like my comment ig ugh lmao.

SILENT HILL 2 REMAKE should be releasing around September or so. The pre-order trailer will be at the latest PlayStation Showcase on either May 22nd or May 23rd. Mark it down. As well as keep a keen eye out for the PlayStation Showcase announcement on May 15th of May 16th.

Glad they’re not whining about the fact that people want a faithful remake to the best horror game ever created. I have no idea why they were so mad and I honestly am still expecting this game to be bad because of that. But, I’m curious.

I hope they put the original games back on steam like how they're doing for fallout rn, Im sure it'll be great but I know Im gonna prefer the old school graphics.

They lost source code of the original SH2 and SH3. SH4 is on GOG. You can find SH2 on PC easily and update it with the Enhanced Edition mod.

This game and also the Switch 2- I’m running out of patience waiting for both of these…barely any info is being released for both and it’s become incredibly irritating.

Will SH2 be available on PS4?

Bloober Team has a somewhat strange track record with games, it was a mistake to give them SH2, and there's always a fan ready to defend them when you point that out. In the end, it's quite likely that the game will end up being only mediocre at best, and Konami doesn't even care.

what annoyed me the most about this synopsis of the production coming along is the minor focus on "steering away from environmental storytelling", which shouldnt be a surprise to anyone who has touched silent hill. the series set the tone for the psychological horror via its environment, the environment didnt tell the story your actions through the games did, hence why there's multiple endings dependent on what you did (the shiba inu ending is my favorite). all in all i just want the game to be out or have an actual estimate for release. tired of all this "releasing sometime in 20**"

Never understood why SH2 is being remade and by a different studio. If the team making it is creative and skilled, they ought to be able to make a new game that's equally good to the original.

Man, I'm hoping and waiting for a XBox port announcement. I want to play this so bad, I have hope that it will make justice to the original game but I'm not buying another console to play it 😂
