@Stigma I actually just made a reddit post asking people if they were spoiled too from the "why did you kill me" part. I heard it the very first time I played and at that point it was obviously clear to me that James killed Mary. Still one of my absolute favorite games. Someone mentioned that they removed the static in a vid, so I came to check. The static didn't mask it at all for me but so many people on reddit still can hear it even though its so very clear.

The best part is, in an old like, demo version of the game, I think it's the 0.10 build, the voice is distorted, but the subtitles literally still said "Why did you kill me?"

Reminds me of Portal 1, there's a line by Glados that's distorted and you can't tell what she's saying, but the subtitles clearly say "you will be baked and then there will be cake"

Gotta give the game credit when you had James going into the town and having to deal with the monsters that not only came out of the fog but also paying a great homepage to the old 80's film The fog

What a masterpiece. I remember getting this game on launch day in September of 2001! (I used the horrors of this game to escape from the real horrors of the world at the time). I was a freshman in highschool and I couldn’t believe how good these graphics were!

You can actually hear her saying that line even with the static. Just don’t read the subtitles if you have them on. They show a different dialogue to cover it up.

Asking why someone killed you is hard is heavy is sad is tense.. why did you killed me? I thought you loved me

Then he strongly hints if Mary brought him to Silent Hill in order to take revenge. Now it turns out it was all spoiled to us from the very beginning.

The disc is called "Silent Hill 2 Trial Version" and is from the 2001 E3. It has been leaked to the internet at some point, but I don't know by whom. You can use a program like PSound to scan the disc image. Despite beeing a Brookhaven only demo, it contains all the game's dialog in a less processed form. James also yells "Shit!" a few times, which didn't make it into the final game... I guess no one had the idea to scan that thing before, feel free to spread the word! ;)

A) given how few people guessed the twist, ot clearly diddnt give it away B) there aren't blank spaces for the letters to go in like your comment implies, there's a shitton of periods which absolutely don't match up to specific letters. C) given B, all we know of what she said is "id you k", which could be many, many other things besides the truth

It could mean "Did you know about ____?" or something like that. Besides, it's not ⬛⬛⬛⬛⬛id you k⬛⬛⬛", it's "--------id you k-----------------", which doesn't really reveal the twist.

Hello there, i just want to ask a Question, are you the same Gedankenschild who found the N64 Soundtracks of Resident Evil Zero in the Disc of its Wii Release? Unfortunately, that mystery's already been solved. It's just a stock audio soundbite and there's nothing actually being said. It's just gibberish.. It's used frequently in other horror films and games. For many games, sure, but Silent Hill 2 ran at 30FPS except for the pre-rendered cutscenes.

Oh man that just made James mission even more stupid. This whole time I thought the message was “go to the apartments” or “don’t go to the apartments” what exactly was the point of James goin there if he knew he murdered her. I’m sorry you can forget a lot of things through the years but murder isn’t one of them. Like now it really doesn’t make any sense why he went to any of those places. Like no I can’t simply jump a fence. Let me not only trespass on abandoned property. But let me fire my gun at random thing even killing another human. Harass a child, cos let’s be honest I was walking around unsupervised at that age to. And also steal a bunch of “items” for ridiculous puzzles. Still a good story at the end of the day.

it isnt that he truly forgot about it, its that he repressed it to the point that he twisted it onto the idea his wife died due to her illness. Thats why pyramid head exists, its the town trying to get him to rip the off the mental bandaid he had put over the event and get him to accept that he truly was the cause for her death as finally accept it at face value. and of course depending on how you play the game either he accepts it or still tries to deny it/find another way to ignore it.

@@doranstewartstewart6521 Because thats how far his mind went into believing he didnt kill her, The note that mary supposedly gave him even fades as you go thought the game until completely vanishing from your inventory as he starts to accept the truth, The entire town is pointing him to the fact that he killed her, but he refused to accept it until he finally saw the camera footage and realized how far in denial he was. of course there are theories that it hasnt even been three years since mary died, and he has her corpse in her car, but thats another can of worms.
