Not as bad as the technobabble on Star Trek before and especially after this. Likely the writers were riffing off the new Electron Microscopes at the time that could see far smaller things than optic telescopes.

Recently I saw a long documentary about century 21 productions & it's a marvel how much they could achieve with so little. They had (wo)manpower, though.

I remember watching the reruns of this show way back when and I own the DVD version of the show as well! I love these older SciFi shows as they really were about the story and making you think of the vastness of the space and what life might be all about! Also, now we can see the disclosure of many things like a secret space program, underground military bases etc. It makes chuckle thinking about now!

so glad your son enjoys UFO - I just watched that trailer and the similarity is more about the music and the visual editing matching up so well - as does UFO opening perhaps even better - was it a homage to UFO? - I wish I could agree but I don't see it - could I know who your son likes most in the show - it could lead to a video eventually - 🛸✨

Tape drives was the coolest optic of computers in the 1960s....except for the fake light show using Christmas lights. Punch cards sorters and readers were also "exciting" as was reading the ticker tape readouts. Most shows didn't have or show CRTs directly as they didn't photo well. Required bluescreening as done in Star Trek.
Don’t forget Benedict Cumberbatch’s mom, also quite a looker.

With all the sophisticated computers you would think that they would not have to be giving each other all these numbers. Somehow sprinklings a bunch of long numbers into the conversation makes it sound more scientific. They could at least throw in a few cotans. Vectors, thetas and alphas. With all the sophisticated aliens out there, their weapons are still projectiles that have to be aimed and can't go through a tree.

a general audience in 1970 would not have GPS guided munitions as their tech standard - a lot of the Apollo control room chatter which I remember at the time was dominated by the exchange of long series of random numbers and jargon - for a general TV audience the combat rules in the SHADO universe are simple and easy to understand - this is long before the internet and Bluetooth enabled smart phones tablets etc too of course - 🛸✨

in 1969 television producers were still learning what looked best on the new colour sets - purple is a more dramatic choice than silver for sure - I know I would deal with a lot less chat about silver wigs than I get about the purple wigs - I wish they had gone with silver - it would make the show easier to accept for a modern audience who have somehow never seen a woman with purple hair in the year of our Lord 2024 - 🛸✨
If you "blow the tanks" and eliminate air, won't that cause the sub to descend? Re-inflating the tanks with compressed air and displacing the water causes a sub to rise.
