It was only black and white because of financial restrictions, and no other reason…as Kevin Smith has admitted this. He’s also admitted he only came up with the convenience store camera theory after a reporter posed it as a theory

Right, and Linklater influenced Kevin to make a film. I actually grew up the same time that Kevin did, and I am in the film industry. Now ANYONE can make a film, edit it themselves, and put it on KZread, where Producers WILL see it. My friend Sean, after decades as a successful filmmaker, shot a feature on his Iphone, with real working actors, and won awards for it. When I started, you would have to buy expensive film and developing because video was cold looking and very different from what even a phone can do today, Then we had to edit it by hand on a flatbed with glue and tape (No Digital then), and then once you had the film, the only way that you could get it seen , was to lug a projector into a producers office and run it for them. Can you imagine what it feels like to have started then, comparing to what we have now?
