Sigurd & Carina Rascher play Erland von Koch’s Concerto Piccolo | Rascher Saxophone Duo

Музыка

A unique and historical recording featuring Sigurd and Carina Rascher (Rascher Saxophone Duo) performing Concerto Piccolo by Erland von Koch with the Stockholm Symphonic Wind Orchestra on February 2, 1977.
Carina Rascher, born in Cambridge, New York in 1945, started studying saxophone with her father Sigurd Rascher at the age of five and gave her first concert the following year. In 1952, she began performing duo concerts with her father, for which many new works were composed. Her early years included performances in New York's Town Hall and Carnegie Hall, as well as concerts in Stockholm, Prague and many other European and American cities. Additionally, she was a featured soloist among others with both the Munich Philharmonic and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras. As a founding member of the acclaimed Rascher Saxophone Quartet, she performed in major venues around the world for 33 years until her retirement in 2002. She was also a founding member of the Rascher Saxophone Orchestra. Throughout her career, Carina Rascher participated in countless premiers (over 300) of works written for her, the Rascher Duo, the Rascher Quartet or the Rascher Orchestra, many of which are now standards in the repertoire. In 2005, she donated her father's estate to the State University of New York in Fredonia including original composer manuscripts, hundreds of live recordings, programs, press materials, photos, personal artefacts, and some 7000 letters in multiple languages. Carina Rascher continues to teach and edit works for the saxophone.

I'll add my voice to those thanking you for posting this. This kind of upload is a good example of what, for me, is the best aspect of KZread: Having such easy access to something that one could have spent one's whole life searching for without success is a gift from the gods.

Probably one of the best recordings I’ve heard from them! And man, was von Koch a lyrical writer... Gorgeous melodies!

Honestly! Such control in the sop high range. I remember hearing this as an undergrad thinking ..wtf. MM and I have played frequently with piano, but I don’t really think it works in that format. It’s almost comical to belt out those D’s at ff with just two other people!

@@MichaelHernandezSax I know know the note says it's from Michael, but it's actually from me, Linda hodorowicz. I've met you a few times with Jake Swanson. And specifically last year at the Navy Band saxophone Symposium in DC. I was one of the four old folks in a saxophone quartet. Glad to meet up with you on KZread again
