odd choice of music for advertising saxophone mouthpieces… gave me a bit of whiplash after such a beautiful performance
Man havent heard this piece in ages LOL you guys sound great!!
One of my absolute favorite quartets <3
My favorite
Intense, yet playful! A fun listen, Clare!
Thanks so much, Allen! Did you listen to the other mvts?
@@clareshorecomposer2829 No, this was the only movement that I saw posted.
Thanks a lot.
Michael your content is very nice. I want to talk with you.
Greetings Michael...Maybe some listeners are interested to know when and where the above performance took place. It was the 68th performance ( of in total 143) which took place at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC on the 21st of February 1958. SMR performed the Concertino da Camera in France, Switzerland, Spain, Great Britain, Czeckoslovakia, Poland, Norway, Sweden, Australia, USA, Cuba, Canada, Hungary, Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark. (over a range of time from 1935 to 1973)
Thank you so much Carina! I hope you are well! I miss seeing you on Facebook!
Thanks, Michael. My cassette copy is interrupted--half on one side, half on the other. Nobody's alto was ever as sweet.
Not sweetness as an end-in-itself, but as the reward for an intense rigor of musicianship and an esthetic of tonal purity.
Thank you for your research, presentation, and dedication.
Super overtones
Absolutely Great. Saxophonist is Real MUSICIAN.
Thank you’❤
It is always a good thing to remember the fundamentals of the instrument, and what better way to remember them by listening to one of the betters classical saxophonist's in history 🤣🤣🤣
Oh wow, I can’t believe I hadn’t heard this concerto (“concertino”?) before! Thanks for posting this, especially as performed by the great masters.

This is a great. Thanks for sharing. My dad is playing on this recording (Ray Spires)
Thank you for posting these. All the Best to you!
Do you know what the work at 15:08 is?
Yes! It is the Adagio and Samba (Introduction and Samba) by Maurice Whitney - available for rental through Bourne. There is also a simplified solo part that is available with piano that does not include all of the altissimo that was written for Rascher. There is a recording of Sinta playing the simplified version with band and there is also a recording of my colleague Diane Hunger playing the original solo part with the piano reduction.
Michael! This video was AWESOME! thank you so much for sharing your knowledge - I've been doing a ton of internet searches and your vids keep coming up! I'm the CEO of a software company that helps musicians book live gigs where the audience wants to connect with the musician, where the audience values your gift and perspective as a true artist. It’s about monetizing on your passion & skipping the phase of booking rinse & repeat soul-crushing gigs you only play to make ends meet. Would love to connect and set up a time to meet virtually for coffee if youre up for it! LMK!
Love this video. Your transpency is wonderful, and you are really fun.
I have volume 1 on vinyl. I would love to get my hands on volume 2, but these recordings are exceedingly hard to come by.
one of the greatest performances I have ever heard of any ensemble in my life.. I was very fortunate to be involved with many of the performers listed and count Buddy Deans as one of my teachers at Univ of Southern Mississippi In the 1970's......Lewis Yeargan
Fantastic!
Wonderful!
Great performance!
Thanks for posting!
The knot, gigmasters, the bash, and wedding wire are all trash companies that excessively overcharge for a minuscule amount of leads. Please NEVER USE THEM. They are all the same company.
I have looked into "Beyond Talent" by Angela Beeching and was wondering if you knew of any major differences between any of the three editions? I am interested in this book but don't know which edition I should pursue. Do they all have the same information just edited to fit changing times? Do you have any advice?
I would get the most recent third addition, the earlier ones have some antiquated steps and do not address web presence as much
What’s your referral code #, it’s asking me for just the code….

🚀...........🪐
I really appreciate you turning me on to this cat and his music.. 🎵
gonna take my Buescher alto out and play it !
🥊....I dig this.
this is so incredible...blew me away.
Thanks for posting this, Mike!
There is so little recorded Rascher, that it's all priceless.
Excellent!
This is a really wonderful, well informed yet unique and colorful interpretation of a classic wind work. To accomplish this on saxophone is even more special and honestly a real gift to our community!
Incredible!
I love the warmth in your tone! ✨ornamentation is 🔥
Great playing 🎷
So good to see this posted. I have a copy of the complete quartet concert that SMR gave to me years ago to copy for preservation. My notes indicate this is from 1977 and may be the premiere. In the concert, SMR recited all the poems in the very beginning, and also added a few other comments that were appropriately not included in this video. This is simply wonderful quartet playing and can be a model for all quartets in ensemble playing at a professional and artistic level. Also on the concert were works of Borel, Gates (Declamation and Dance), and Lamb.
Thank you Paul! The dates are a bit unclear - Carina did find a program with Diversions form Stuttgart in 1971 (more than likely the premiere). There were no concerts in the US in 1977, but there were several in 1978. It sounds like a great program! The Borel is such an underrated work!
@@MichaelHernandezSax Thank you for putting this on. Lee Patrick sent me the link. If this recording had been in Germany wouldn't he have addressed the audience in German?
@@charliekahn393Exactly, which is why it is most likely from 1978 and not from 1977. Also this is definitely not the premiere. This is why I said the dates are a bit unclear. We are still looking for programs so stay tuned! ☺️
An exciting and beautiful programmatic work! Also great to hear early RSQ. Thanks for the upload!
What a sound! I honestly say, never heard such a great saxophone ensemble before. Tuning, articulation, everything is just beautiful. I love this.
People want to get married no matter how sick you are 😂 🤣
Which one is better?
