Spanish: lo que ella afirma es intersante, porque soy una mujer baja (1,59 cm) y delgada... yo me siento intimidada por la gente alta, no tenia idea de que ellos también podían sentirse así por gente como yo 😯

man, people can be such snobby assholes about animation knowing nothing about the craft. it's a commission taken on by a different guy who's just as worthy of a paycheck for his service as any hand drawn frame by frame animator. You can have a personal preference to style but to outright call it terrible just because it's different is just shallow.

Animation student here, i'll have to completely disagree with your second statement. People can be snobby assholes about anything, really. However there's very little here to admire about actual animation. Also, traditional animation is way more labor intensive than rigging and animating a still image, as i'm sure you know, since you seem to be into cartoons. In my not so humble opinion, Blank on Blank is miles ahead of this, that's taking into account both the animation and illustration styles. This isn't terrible, but it really isn't very good.

I completely understand your opinion and actually agree. I am ALSO an animator. Never went to college but I've been freelancing for almost 3 years now and am trying my best to break into the industry without it (you can check out my work on my channel, just so you know, shameless self plug yay). I also prioritize hand drawn frame by frame and will agree that in my experience it IS way more labor intensive and, in my opinion, pays off way more in the end as it looks far more organic and lifelike then a rigged mechanical puppet. However, 2 points. 1. the other style of animation Blank on Blank has been using, while frame by frame to be sure, is certainly not Disney or Harry Partridge level. Really it's just a bunch of boils, characters snapping into position B from position A with no in-betweens and barely any breakdowns, not completely colored in, deliberately sketchy and at the end of the day the most complex moving thing on screen is the lips. My point is, it's just as minimal as these motion tweens which is acceptable and fair since these videos don't require harry partridge or Catfat levels of movement anyways. 2. this type of animation style may not be the most organic looking or the most complex, but it suites the purposes of the show just fine. If all they need is to show some convincing caricatures of celebrities and icons making occasional movements then truthfully what we got should be satisfactory. but whether or not it looks better is an entirely subjective thing as, again, from a work standpoint and considering the limitations of the artist beforehand, it's reasonable to assume they both worked the same amount of time on their respective projects, as while this videos movement may not be as complex it's sketches are certainly much more crisp and realistic. So when comparing the two, it's completely a subjective call. You can prefer whichever style you want, but to shamelessly shit on the animator for not giving you exactly what you had before but obviously putting in the work nonetheless, it's simply childish.

@tombocartoons you nailed it with b on b. i really tried to focus on the ideas and visual analogies. no tweens ever. just an anticipation into each pose, and boil. managed to do each episode in under a week. After 80 episodes, I started to really appreciate this limited technique. ALso, I really like drawing every drawing.. i don't work with any library of poses etc. hope you guys enjoyed it.. i'm sad they're over. onto other things!

Could we just take it easy about hating on this side project? Even if you don't like the animation (which I do personaly) these videos still tell great and interesting stories. Maybe try closing your eyes and enjoy those at least.

Strange - it was the opposite with me - when I was young I grabbed for all the best things, best wine food nature spirit and pathos experienced the savoring of the simple joys of living and the finer things, but now it is as if I am a child with just the opposite mentality. People thought I was weird to have high tea at ten and become a connesour of fine foods and wine at 15 or 16. Always tried to get people to go to the art museum and installations, galleries. I was like a little grown up man, retired by 18, and became this bohemian type until thirty. Everyone still heads in their computers, kid drama and video games. I am not saying it was good or I was special, just weird, a stranger. And I'm nothing like that now, but glad I got it out of the way early, save the childish things for 36.

we don't have standards :) nothing happened to the blank on blank series -- which we love. this is merely another project we (quoted studios) did with esquire. it's obviously a much different approach taking illustrations and turning them into animation vs more classically animated work like we did with blank on blank.
