Dolly Parton on Getting Dirty | Blank on Blank

Ойын-сауық

"Mama just always said, 'you be what you are and you don't have to worry about nothing'"
- Dolly Parton as told to Lawrence Grobel on March 13, 1978
Dolly Parton was not your typical model to appear on the cover of Playboy magazine. But that's just what Dolly did in 1978. She wouldn't take her clothes off, yet that issue still became one of Playboy's most popular issues of all time.
Inside that issue of Playboy was an amazing interview done by Lawrence Grobel. The recording of this interview has never been heard until now. Dolly was at the height of her stardom. She was in her early 30s. And what we loved hearing were her stories about growing up with 11 siblings in Tennessee. They slept four to the bed. The little ones often peed on her at night. In the summertime everybody bathed in the river. And Dolly was into tight clothes and makeup even as a little girl. It's quintessential Dolly. There is nobody in show business like her.
#DOLLYISMS
"I'm just pretty open and honest. There's not just a whole lot I won't tell you."
"My aunt had a toilet in the bathroom and we were so fascinated. We were afraid. I was afraid to use it. I just thought it was going to suck us right down."
"We made our own soap and in the summer time we'd go to the river ... That was like a big bath."
"The kids peed on me every night."
"I wore my skirts so tight I couldn't hardly wiggle in them. Even as a little bitty kid, even before I had a figure I liked my clothes snug and tight."
Get more from this interview with Dolly including what she thought about posing for Playboy and the key to her marriage to Carl Thomas Dean

I'm a punk by nature and preferred musical stylings but good God I can't help having a crush on miss Dolly. She's so sweet, and as a New Zealander I think I finally understand the term "Southern charm". What a beauty

She also helped fund one of the main vaccines against covid through donations. She really has always been an American superstar/icon by being a genuinely good person and having such natural talent. So much of her work is for charity events and for small communities that it’s astounding like there aren’t many other musicians that genuinely continuously donate on such a level or perform purely for charity events. She wrote the song I will always love you made famous by Whitney Huston and kinda given to her as a song gift by Dolly Parton. She one of the only country artists that actually isn’t just another millionaire doing drugs and Hollywood shots but going to hospitals or charity tours working for st.judes etc. she’s always tried to act like a saint, sing like an Angel, and dress like Dolly Parton and anyone in her way be damned, she’s punk considering her overall positivity compaired to social expectations and her perfected style of presenting ‘Dolled up’. She’s never been in any scandals or legal troubles because she’s always just been a positive fantastic person. even if she isn’t punk she’ll give you a wink call you baby and sing you a song and raise millions of dollars to cancer research while in a 30 pound wig a leather jacket and some fantastic heels and loud acrylic nail that you bet your ass she’ll sample in her music (9-5 the backboard click clack is women’s painted fingernails)

Ah Dolly. Dolly Dolly 💜 Probably one of the the very few living actresses and singers I'd love to meet in real life, have lunch with and give her a big hug. She is such a sweet and pure person at the same time very sexy and funny! 😂 She's so adorable.

I am not a country fan, like at all. I don’t like the genre, but Dolly, she’s alright in my book. She is a Country singer who isn’t all about tractors and farming and stuff, no she is a singer that sings from her heart and not what’s around her, which makes her pretty damn special.

Dolly is a true feminist: she passed barriers of poverty and gender. But the amazing thing is she did this while still being feminine and fun. She’s amazing.

What a wonderful person she is! But why is the audio so horrible? He’s off mike and she’s In an echo chamber. And Laurence has interviewed her dozens of times! Yikes! Would you not make sure audio was perfect if you spoke to someone as amazing as Miss Parton?! How many times would you have to record your interviews before realizing the audio is for crap? Unfortunate. Wasted opportunity.

I don't understand why the kids pee on her every night? I guess they didn't have a toilet in the house but still it's weird that someone would pee every night in their sleep.
