Always enjoy Jim's commentaries and comparisons... When he started to play this Signature RAW horn my first thought was, "He sounds a lot like Ernie Watts!" (Ernie has made several visits to the Seattle area to play with local rhythm sections.) This tenor has a softer, broader tone quality, and Jim has some great riffs!

I currently play a Tj custom raw Alto but..will very soon give it away to get a selmer..the main reason is it holds back my finger technique and more important the notes from high d and above and also high c are just really lagging in harmonics and depth.I dont play jazz though and so i dont know if these things stand out that much with a jazz setup ( i use a selmer c* s*80 mouthpiece, BG duo silver ligature and blue vandoren number 3 reeds)

Generally speaking a selmer (mark vi , series 3 or reference) is superior to most instruments out there when it comes to classical playing.I guess that scott came across a really bad selmer and moved to a really good Raw custom..instrument quallity is not that consistent these days..

He had his Selmer for 10 years...loved it until he came across something better...but, from a classical front, you are talking a completely different ball game! Furthermore, he still has his Selmer Alto

So I am an overseas sax player just getting his feet wet in looking for a pro model horn, and I have fallen in love with the tone and depth that the raw XS has. However, I have no stores near me that would let me get one in shop to try it out without buying it first. Are there any recommendations as to how I can get my hands on one before deciding to pull the trigger on such a big purchase? Buying this saxophone right now would clear out my bank account and then some, and I don't want to waste my money on a horn I won't love playing every day. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Trevor James has a page on their website that lists all their official distributors and another page with a contact form. If in doubt, you can send them an email through it and they will redirect you to the closest distributor. It took me a bit of time to get a response from them, but eventially I found a distributor. Keep in mind that purchasing directly from a distributor will be more expensive, so you might want to look into some music shops and ask them if they deal with the distributor in question. A music shop will often offer you a discount over the "recommended retail price". This is how I've ordered mine. I know a lot of time has passed, and you've probably already purchased something, but at the very least I hope this comment will help you with future purchases.
