    Good to point out as I'm sure many do not realize this, but anonymity between the peers isn't (IMO) really the use case *for* Signal, e.g. that's not what it's for. (There are many other alternatives for that.) And if everyone enables "always relay" at all times I do hope they donate to the project occasionally.

    Only the new "XX messenger" can provide a true privacy. It runs on independent nodes installed across the world, search for the project.

    Very interesting catch. Thanks for sharing. It's things like this about signal that made me very interested in a popular fork of it called "Session" that's more focused on anonymity rather than privacy. It uses a generated ID instead of phone numbers and uses onion routing (or something similar to it at least I think) to send messages. However as of now it only supports text.

    When it comes to a higher attack surface WebRTC is Signals biggest weakness. WebRTC is literally used everywhere and it's code is extremely complicated and complex.

    This is the sort of low price technology that might help people in a high population density area such as some part of India in emergencies. The news said that at 3AM new years day near the Kashmir Hindu Vaishno Devi shrine, a stampede is where they say 12 people died and 13 were injured (although I'm only going on what was in the news). Communication is the sort of thing that could really help those guys and show compassion in a tough time like that _(and it is pragmatic for sorting out problems)._ Britain and India make a lot of friends _(history, immigration, and being good guys for solving problems like Idi Amin, etc.)_ and they are often good at english speaking, so such technology could be a way those in Kashmir could help each other out without it being prohibitive to entry by cost. They'd find somebody good at it there ion account of the computing culture in India. Family is important.

    Matrix is an interesting project, but Signal is arguably better for privacy. The one “feature” that I do not like from Matrix is federation (which I love in many other contexts). I like being in “control” of content.

    At 5:42 you said that "if we are having a call and we trust each other it is actually better for our privacy to not have the call routed through Signal's infrastructure" !! Please explain to me thoroughly why is that the case . Why is it not safe to route calls through Signal ? Thank you .

  • @ayecab

    @ayecab

    You would be sending and receiving data from the other party directly rather than through the app infrastructure, so the data can't be captured in transit to their servers. All your messages are routed through the infrastructure though so this is kind of a pointless thing.

  • @user-dx4kf4li3l

    @@ayecab What is pointless ? It is peer to peer right ?

  • @ayecab

    @ayecab

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@user-dx4kf4li3l What I mean by pointless is that the Signal infrastructure is already acting as the relay to send and receive messages between you and your contacts, and we're relying on the end-to-end encryption to protect the messages in transit. So assuming the encryption works, the privacy benefits of peer to peer communications for video and audio are very limited.

If you believe that the best method of encryption doesnt work (LOL) then go use facebook and instagram you moron . LOL . Even though Signal's infrastructure act as the relay they have NO information to give if they are being asked . Educate yourself and stop spreading dumb nonsense if you are ignorant .
