Sigma Cine Lens Test 2019 - RED 8K VV
Фильм және анимация
Sigma added three new prime lenses to their cinema prime lineup in 2019. This is a quick test to see the wide open performance of the new 28mm, 40mm, and 105mm T1.5 when combined with the rest of the primes in the series.
Filmed on RED Monstro 8K VV at maximum resolution and format size, 8K FF.

This was so awesome, so well executed! Love the perspective comparison
Thanks for producing quality tests and uploading them to youtube! you are a legend!
Thank you for taking the time to upload this. These lenses are ridiculously sharp. My god! Beautifully color balanced too.
28mm primes have been out of fashion for about 30 years. My understanding is that its difficult to make a fast 28mm. However, 28 is where I stated as a newspaper photographer, as it was the standard newsshooters choice, followed by a 50, that was the kit. I still prefer 28 over 24 or 35 because its what i call 'intimate wide angle'. This the bridge point between standard (no distortion) and wide(with distortion). This Sigma, is a great looking lens and I will aim to get one and a 40.

Thanks for the great explanation for the 28mm focal length. I assume your thoughts were based on the full-frame sensor, right? Would you also share your thought on the 40mm focal length?

I completely agree. 28mm is the single most useful lens to do it all. Plan on picking up a 40 as well.

I would love to see a test like this done for the new Sigma Classic Cine lenses. This test is what made me interested in the Sigma line to begin with; you did an incredible job showcasing these lenses!

^ THIS!! From what I've seen the Classics flare light a b%&$ and naturally you lose a bit of light transmission due to elements not being coated, but they look amazing. The only downside I see is they're sold as a full kit only and I can see this being a pain as I wouldn't want to use them all the time due to the flaring being so intense.

@@Adam_Griffith I was really into the classics when they were first announced, but I'm starting to think they might be a better option to rent than buy. You can get a semi-vintage look with a mist/halation filter and some vignette in post, while with the classics the veiling glare is baked in and would make shooting against a window nearly impossible. Still, I'm interested to see how they'd perform in a test like this!
I keep watching this.... Over and Over!🤗
These lenses are absolutely beautiful! great showcase my friend! Thank you!
Great test Phil. Thanks for putting this together. For those who might not need the full set, this really helps identify which if any lenses are the right ones to own. Mahalo!
This should be called "2 girls and a flashlight." What I'm truly astonished is the fact the 28mm lens caught my attention before I read the comment section.
This test is uber beautiful and very enjoyable to watch. Thank you for sharing.
Thankyou for this, great lens test. The different distances and even having a nice location colours and models make a difference. 👏🏽
phenomenal test for real world usage!
The Bokeh of 40mm and 105mm amazing!!
Sigma should hire you man! After watching this I am very close to trading my organs for these lenses:D
I love how sigmas contain direct light instead of a blurry, milky mess 😊
Love how relaxing this was 😎
Who knew that a hardbound operation manual for a flashlight would be such a fascinating read?
Finally i found a video reviewing as it should
Thank you very much for this. Monstro looks beautiful with these lenses. The 20mm bokeh looked a little busy and unpleasant. I have a sigma 20mm f1.4 lens with the same problem. The location is excellent as well, loved the 14mm wide angel of the whole room.
Fantastic job! Thank you so much!!!
Sierra Love 👌..... yeah, keep that one around for sure!
Thanks for that very clear and kudos to the two wonderful models.
The image looks amazing. Great colors saturation, contrast, and separation from subject to background. Is this right out of camera? Did you do much adjustments in post? Rec 709 or 2020?
85mm 🤤😍
Beautiful. I'm sold on these lens.
Great test. Would love to see a comparison with the Sigma Cine zooms.
My pick would be 24mm and 28mm that has both bokeh and wide perspective of the scene. But can't resist that 50 f1.4 tho. XD

Awesome comparison! Thanks man!
Thanks for that.
6:15 The 14mm seemed to have more distortion than I was expecting up close. I guess that is more of a 12mm field of view in 35mm world.

Everything about this video is prettttyyyy
One thing I realised from this 50mm for video is quite tight!
I decided to invest in tokina Cine vv set instead as this are sigma art photo glasses rehoused... so I can buy whole set for the equivalent price of one cine version thx for the test Phil I was already sold when I saw you previous shoot out at douclos
Thanks for your Video. it's so Beautiful and so Helpful !
The brunette definitely could work as a lighthouse keeper.
Amazing picture
Very good test, I'm also very scared about the distortions and darkness on the corners of those lenses, even in the 40, 50 and 85... they breath in a strange way, it's a expensive lens for these kind of problems

It is interesting to see the 85, 105, 135mm with less contrast at wide open when compared to the shorter lenses

Isn't that a general quality of wide vs. telephoto lenses? feels like that to me... could be the result of looking through more atmosphere (when you maintain the shot size by altering camera position, the latter half of the video)?
@Tcivan
4 жыл бұрын
@@DaCarnival It really jumps when you go from 50mm to 85mm. Not sure why. That always makes me say "Ahhhhhh" when i put my 85 on. It just has a nice feel. My favorites are the 20, 28, 40, 85 and 105.

@@Tcivan Well if you think about it, it's the single biggest jump throughout the lineup, the next biggest jump is 30mm from the 105 to the 135. At the wide end, the biggest visible difference is 11mm from the 24 to the 35.

Are these the new FF Cine Lenses? This looks really good!
Awesome test! Had a question on the grade, was this fully graded, simple rec709 or other LUT, etc? Just trying to see how much is the lens and camera, and how much is the grade. thanks!
Thanks for the test Phil, what are your thoughts on the sigma cine zooms.
Would you say it’s the lighting that imparts the saturation and depth I see in the image or is it a combination of post work and the aforementioned? I ask because I sometimes see footage from Arri that looks faded and not as color rich as this. I also sometimes see footage from way less expensive cinema cameras and mirrorless cameras with this type of richness in the image. Could someone with knowledge on this chime in please?

Hi Phil, this is a great test. Thank you for sharing! I have two questions: 1. The color of this video looks amazing. Did you follow a particular post color workflow? If yes, mind sharing your process? 2. Is there no vignetting with these lenses on VV or did you crop in a bit? I know these are FF, that's why I'm asking.
