Which lens would you go with and why?

I dunno. If the 150-600mm had the new AF motor system, then I would definitely go for that. I like and don’t like the 10x range of the 60-600mm. It seemed like you did not really need the big lens for the mummers. Most of your mummers shots were well under 200mm. Most of you shots at the zoo were over 400mm.

Planes are my thing. 60-600 is the difference between swapping cameras or not as your subject lands and taxis past you. Have to say I much prefer your real world reviews to those who shoot banknotes and cotton reels. Also, I note that many reviewers forget about atmospheric conditions - shooting boats on a hot sunny day with a super telephoto lens ain't always going to end well :)
The reason the Sigma lens can't do 30 frames per sec is that Sony put this limit on 3rd party lenses. It's a software issue not a hardware issue.

I've been waiting for you to drop this video
I'm using a tamron 150-600mm G2, which I found for 424 dollars. Mislabeled as a first gen. So I'm only watching because I enjoy Jared's real world reviews. And it was a nice surprise to hear Jared sing the twist by chubby checker lol. I never hear anyone ever reference it. Love that song
Worst Mummers strut ever!! 😂😂 I saw you during the live stream of the parade.. I was waiting to see your photos. Good Stuff!
i love your use of the word horizontical at 5:46 😂
First off: great review! I use the 200-600 G often in the zoo, and find myself shooting mostly in between that range. But I do get surprised sometimes by closer animals that I cannot focus on, pinguïns popping up, these are potentially great photo’s with a lot of expression, that I will have to miss. Until I would use this lens. So there you go, it’s definitely lens for the zoo that you don’t have to switch during your visit.
In the shooting that I do, the 60-600 would work well for shooting sports (football and soccer, especially) because they can go from way the hell down the field to right in front of you pretty quickly. But with the variable aperture, it would be best for daytime games. It would be trickier for night games.
This will be a nice zoom lens option to have for Lumix users, especially with the new S5ii coming out.
I had the 200-600 but sold it as I only used it like 3x a year but having the internal zoom I’d prefer the Sony over the Sigma. Only reason why I’d go Sigma is for planespotting. Depending on the location the extra reach on the wide angle can be the difference between a filled frame or front and rear being out of frame (or the need for a second body with 70-200/switching lenses)
The 60-600 would be a great lens to have on safari. When I first started photography I went with the A7 + 28-70mm kit lens on safari and took some great shots at 70mm where you can see the animals with an amazing background. That kit lens is horrible though, but I still got great shots. With the 60-600 it will allow someone to take amazing shots at all focal ranges. Nowadays I have the 150-500 Tamron which I can supplement with the Sigma 24-70 art and Sony 135mm 1.8 so I wouldn't buy it if you already have some great lenses in that focal range.
A lot of people use this for aviation as well, with the 60mm working good for static displays at airshows, wide angle scenery shots, formation flight shots etc. I personally went for the 150-600 for the weight and saying I could just use a second lens for wide angles
@mrrcassidy

Exactly. Airshows are Extras and B-52s in the same space. I was at the park and view west at RIAT last year and using two cameras. Apart from when a C-17 and A400M were on the taxiway, I could have got away with one camera/one lens with a 60-600.

@@hwhitham04 Haven't bought it yet :) I was using two Olympus cameras last year, one with a 12-100 the other with a 100-400. I now have a Lumix S1R/S5 - I'm minded to get the 150-600 - it's less money and I have a 24-70 and 135 lens now. I guess I'm going to park and view with two (rather larger) cameras again this year. Focusing will be slower than PDAF - but these are planes rather than birds so I think it will be fine.
I have owned the 150-600 C EF lens for a couple of years now and love it!
I've a Lumix S1 and it's an amazing L-Mount Camera FOR ME! x.
Seems weird not to has the STL lock switch on the 60-600 like they have on the 150-600, like having the option for a hard, smooth or locked zoom, a simple lock is fine but seems odd to drop that feature.
Did you ever do a video on the L mount alliance- I seem to understand the joke now, but the background is from before I started following your channel 😁👍
18:00 i can think of an application for the 60mm side of the lens. if you are doing wildlife photography and you need to include as many animals in a photo, the kind of animals that move together in large numbers, e.g if the story is about wildlife migration.
Damnit Jared! Why am I watching this. It has no relevancy to my work. But your so engaging.
Not sure why you hate on Panasonic, it's weird to me that you would have bias towards one or more brands and not another. They finally updated their auto-focus system and are making the right moves. This should be exciting, more competition stops the market stagnating and encourages innovation. Anyways good review of the lens as always.
I love my Sigma 60-600 sport. I also encourage all my friends to get the presets. Skittles is my go to 80% of the time.

I am deciding whether to use this lens instead of the Sony 100-400mm G Master
For the money, the Nikon 200-500 VR with any teleconverter will give a spread up 400-1000mm. Of course losing a couple of f/stops won't help in low light but since I am shooting outdoors what does it matter? I tried this on my Z9 with FTZII adaptor and was actually pleasantly surprised at how clear the photos were on 1000mm zoom. - PS Jared thanks for this video! I love your consistency in videos and format. I look forward to all of them. - Jim
Have a Z9 and am tired of waiting on Nikon's 200-600mm, so decided to go with the Megadap2 adapter and the Sony 200-600mm telephoto.

I was considering the EF version of this, but chose to go with the 150-600 contemporary. I usually find when shooting wide, I go for my 17-50 F2.8 or the nifty fifty. @@cooloox Dustin Abbott did not say that the new lens was significantly sharper. He said it's, and I quote: 'sharper, faster to focus, and has better optical stabilization'
This is an intriguing lens compared to the Sony 200-600. It's like getting the Sony plus a free 60-200. An interesting idea, but it just seems like such a strange and niche lens. Good on Sigma for their eye-popping new tech, though...the future looks bright!
This is the reason Canon's lens selection lags Sony. They not only have to compete against sony, but they also have to compete against Sigma and Tamron who may not kill it alone, but provide something that competes or is better than Canon at almost every level. The only things they don't have are a 85 1.2 and a 28-70 f2. But Sigma's 85 f1.4 is so ridiculously sharp, I don't really have any envy of the 85 f1.2.

The RF 85mm f1.2 is actually still sharper than the F1.4 and has the advantage to have 33% beighter aperture. It's a special lens that really shook up the status quo. Dunno why there's constant comment on Canon RF in a E/L mount lens video. Yes Canon has limited RF lenses, but when comes to telephotos, RF is alright. There is the underrated RF100-400, RF600&800 f11. They are incredible in handheld. Mid range there is Sigma 150-600mm that's lighter than E/L mount version. Plus all the EF adapt options And in high end there's RF100-500L and the Big L whites(400/600/800/1200).
As a hobbyist wildlife photographer with a Canon R7 with the 70-200 f4, I envy Sony having third-party lenses. I was too much a Canon fanboy and should have considered switching over to Sony when I swapped over to mirrorless. I'd love to have the Canon 100-500rf lens, but that is about a thousand too much out of my price range.
the Fro reviewing super teles is a funny thing.
If they had the RF mount I'd for sure get the 150-600mm. I would love to have a decent sport/wildlife lens, while being able to save some of that money to get some better glass for the wider ones (or get a 35 mm prime). As it stands, I guess I can be sad and wait or consider the adapting the older version with RF/EF ring :/

No, actually, thank you for reviewing this! You have the biggest influence when I was choosing my camera. I just wish I listened to you and all of them, but I ended with a Leica. So, now, I can only afford a Leica 24-70. I tried the Panasonic 70-200 f2.8 but it drains my SL2-s’ battery rapidly! So, I had to return it and bought a new laptop and enrolled in a photography class. Now, I discovered Sigma, which is basically the Leica Japanese lenses rehoused and I’m willing to stop snubbing other glass. I want a telephoto lens. I’m thinking of getting this.
Hello, this isn't the first 10x zoom for full frame mirorless cameras. There's the Sony and the Canon 24-240 mm (even if it's clearly not for the same purpose).
*kicks rocks literally holding my S5* “Jared doesn’t want to play with me!😢😂
Do you think that that would be able to keep up to the GFX 100 S
I wonder if Sigma will redesign its 24-105mm lens and release the mirrorless version of it because we're in need of this lens for our cameras.
60-600mm is great for vacation photos. Canon is making me, and many others, very unhappy by not getting going with Sigma. I too may sell all my gear and switch.
🥳 I have L-mount Alliance gear 🤣 The niche also needs to feed. Don't forget that!
Zooming out to 60 as a large bird flies towards you is very useful.
It's not 'the first 10x zoom for mirrorless' (SONY has the 24-240mm), but it definitely is the only one that goes from a normal 60mm to a super-telephoto 600mm.

I am SL2-S shooter and I’m glad the L-Mount alliance exists, 1:48. - The image quality of Leica raw files is outstanding good and in opposite to Canon and Sony there are plenty of details in the shadows AND highlights. In comparison, Canon and Sony have no details in the shadows and Canon also suffers at the highlights. I avoid to speak of the Sony colours, specially at low light. Nikon has plenty details in the shadows but you easily get blown highlights. In opposite to F and EF mount, Z and RF mount are worst ever at sun stars. At least the Z lenses (S line) are awesome, edge to edge sharp also wide open, no chromatic aberration and diffraction also at f/16, they can compete with the Leica lenses. - If the SL3 and SL3-S come with the same updates like the Q3 (first Leica with phase detect AF), I expect even more such as a stacked sensor, L-Mount alliances rules. Wanna bet the Panasonic Lumix S line will get similar updates?

30 fps ➡️ 15 fps at 7:31 is a Sony restriction for third party lenses. That’s the true reason for the limitation to 15 fps. I can’t understand why they made such a short lens foot, you can’t balance the lens on a gimbal.
