@@cameraprepper7938 It's also drastically more expensive. The other 24mm options prior to this one all had one glaring issue or another. This one is 90% of the 24mm GM for nearly half the price.

@@RicochetForce But the Sigma are no where near the Sony ! If you buy a Lens with aperture 1.4 you should expect it to perform very good at 1.4, you have to use aperture 4.0 to 5.6 to come close to the performance of the Sony Lens, so if you want a cheap Lens, get a 2.0 or 2.8 Lens, fx the Tamron 24mm 2.8. The Sigma do not reach 90% of the Sony ! I have the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM and I can very highly recommend it.

@@cameraprepper7938 I'm not going to recommend a $1400 lens to anyone but a photographer running a business. I'm sorry. Part of the reason why people love Sigma is that they get enthusiasts and hobbyists pro-level image quality much of the time for much less money.
love the video. helped me decided picking up this lens vs the 20mm 1.4

If I am satisfied with shooting f1.8 and smaller, how does this lens compare with Samyang 24mm f1.8? Any opinion? Thanks.

Great question!!!
I would love to see the Comparison side by side between Sigma24,20 vs Sony24,20. Still have not found any on youtube in term of image quality and Astro image quality in particular. This would help a lot for people who have already owned Sony 24,20 and might want to trade for Sigma.

Thanks for the great review. This lens is a great option for me. My 24-70GM2 is a workhorse, but for the relatively few times when f2.8 just isn't bright enough this lens provides a viable wide aperture option to the 24/1.4GM without breaking the bank. What really surprises me is that Sigma is still selling the 24/1.4 DG HSM model for $100 more than this one. Even if they have a warehouse full of them, I can't imagine anyone paying $100 more for a heavier lens with fewer features and no better performance optically. It's a mystery.

I would lean towards the Sigma. It's stronger optically and has more modern autofocus and features.
As always an excellent review Dustin. Now, if Sigma would only apply their creative juices to Fuji GFX and Hassy XCD mounts they would not only up their credibility but what a market share grab. Imagine Zeiss Otus quality which fully covered medium format.
@DustinAbbottTWI
Жыл бұрын
Sigma has started to work on Fuji X-mount, so perhaps there's some possibility of GFX in the future. There's a few of their past lenses (the 40mm F1.4 ART comes to mind) that I believe already covers the GFX sensor.
The third party lens manufacturers have stepped up their game and now manufacturing truly deluxe lenses. The 24 MM F1.4 DN Art lens is a perfect example of that excellence. Thank you for the detailed review, always appreciated.

I’ve never yet enjoyed any Sigma camera as well as their lenses, but here’s hoping.
It just seems a pity that Sigma is not making these lens available for a broader church of mounts. Presumably, it has sound reasons.
@youuuuuuuuuuutube
Жыл бұрын
Sigma is releasing it for L-mount because Sigma itself is part of the L-mount alliance, and also releasing it on the only open mount that accepts FF, the E-mount. If you want Sigma to release it for RF and Z mounts, then you want to contact Canon and Nikon and ask them to open their mount. Sigma is not the one to blame.

Comments below are correct. This isn't from lack of desire from Sigma, or Tamron, etc... Not having those platforms available actually costs them potential return on their lens design, as it is relatively inexpensive to have multiple mounts (which they've always done in the past). Canon and Nikon are to blame here.

@@GregorMima Commentary noted. Perhaps with time, the 2 major players will open the door to Sigma. The lens cost for the new ff mirroless bodies from both Canon and Nikon must surely be slowing the migration as e.g. the cost of the Canon RF L series glass is a more than a little eye watering.
Dustin, I can't not MUCH wonder (!) what the experiment could have shown to replicate each of You photos (+people distortions near borders) with the DN 21mm AND crop in post processing to match exactly the framing of the 24mm. What about the bokeh (both f1.4!), distortion and sharpness (without the complications of what respective sensors) ! (I really do wonder. Not just for the sake of theory.) Also 'BTW' : Why not envisage innovate and complete your testchart photos with refocus on far-midframe (yes I know: extra work) : Field curvature, especially wide open, should not disqualify merits. After all wide open we rarely focus in the middle ! (How/where do You focus for your testcharts presently?) THANKS !
@DustinAbbottTWI
Жыл бұрын
As for your final question, I focus in the middle of the chart. I do refocus in the corners if I find corner performance really poor to see if focus is the problem. In this case, the corner performance I saw matched what the MTF charts suggest.

Appears to be a little worse than 24gm optically, also heavier. You can easily find 24gm at $1000 or below in good or mint condition in Facebook marketplace, so I don't recommend this one, unless you have to buy new.

The Sigma 24mm 1.4 DN Art performs optically a bit better than the Sigma 24mm 1.4 HSM Art, but the Sony 24mm 1.4 GM are better than bot of Sigma´s 24mm Lenses, The Sony are also a bit more compact and light than Sigma. I only want the very best for high megapixels Cameras to get most details as possible from a wide angle Lens.

@@DustinAbbottTWI On a 60+ megapixel Camera the Sony are far ahead at aperture 1.4 ! It will be stupid to buy the Sigma 35 1.4 and not have the best performance at 1.4, if you do not need 1.4, then there are plenty of other very good 35mm E-mount Lenses.
