Lucky, this is the clearest explanation of the 25 yard zero for the 762x39 round I could find on youtube or the gun forums. Good Job! Every thing you need and nothing you don't, including the 3 inch rise at 100 yards. Thank You.

Lucky Gunsmithing is one of the few KZreadrs that has any clue of what they are talking about with regard to what distance to zero an AK chambered in 7.62x39mm Soviet. The technique of zeroing at 25 yards with the "2" setting works great, and all of the other setting will be zeroed for their corresponding distances (100 meters with "1", 200 meters with "2", 300 meters with "3", etc.). Many suggest that you can zero the AK at 25 meters with the "1" (100 meter) setting that the rifle will be properly set up. They have no idea of what they are talking about. With 7.62x39mm Soviet fired from a Kalashnikov with sights that are 2" above bore there isn't such a thing as a 25/100 meter zero, 25/300 meter zero, or a 25/220 meter zero as many internet commandos would suggest. If the rifle is zeroed at 25 meters then the 2nd point-of-aim / point-of-impact will occur at approximately 187 meters. At 100 meters the rounds should impact a little over 3 inches above point-of-aim. A 25 meter zero is definitely not a 100 meter zero. 25 YARDS (not meters) WITH THE "2" SETTING: As explained in the video, with a 200 meter zero your round will first cross point-of-aim at 25 yards (not meters). This means that a simple way to zero your rifle for all of the settings is to set the rear sight to "2" and zero at 25 yards. Afterwards, move your sight to the "1" and verify your zero at 100 meters (109 yards). Your sights will be set up to work correctly at each corresponding setting (300 meters with the "3", 400 meters with the "4", etc.). 18 METERS (19.6 yards) WITH THE BATTLE SETTING: Here is another way that is easy, really works, and may clear up some confusion regarding the "Battle Setting" on your rifle's rear sight: When your rifle is properly zeroed, then your "Battle Setting" will provide a 18/247 meter zero. Once the rifle is zeroed, this is a great setting to "set it and forget it" for general "combat" shooting because it will provide the shooter with a point-of-impact within +/- 7" of point-of-aim out to 289 meters. The"Battle Setting" is also great to zero your rifle with at 18 meters. Set your sights to the "Battle Setting" and zero at 18 meters, then move your sight setting to the "1" and verify point-of-aim / point-of-impact at 100 meters (109 yards). Your sights will be set up to work correctly at each corresponding setting (300 meters with the "3", 400 meters with the "4", etc.). Hold on... I'm on a roll... One last comment about the "Battle Setting". There is a lot of confusion on the internet with regards to the "Battle Setting" and the "3" setting. They aren't the same. If anyone tells you that they are, they are wrong. Want to prove it? Regardless of how your rifle is zeroed, set up a target at any given distance that you will be able to shoot a very tight group. 18 meters (19.6 yards) will work great. Set your sights to the "Battle Setting" and shoot 5 or 6 rounds from a rested position. Next, move your sight to the "3" position and shoot another 5 or 6 carefully aimed rounds from a rested position. The "3" setting will shoot about an inch higher at 18 meters than the "Battle Setting", thus proving that the settings are not the same. Don't believe me? Try it yourself. Finally, a few hints for using a properly zeroed AK: On a 50 yard and 100 yard range, use the "1" setting. At a 25 yards, such as an indoor range, use the "2" setting". At CQB distances use the "Battle Setting". For general shoot-n-scoot style shooting, use the "Battle Setting" from CQB distance out to around 300 meters. You will need to know the height over bore of the reticle of the sight. Do your best to measure (in inches) how high the reticle (red dot) is above the center of the bore of the rifle. Basically you will measure from the center of optic down to the center of the barrel. Reply with the results to this post and then we can run the numbers through a ballistic calculator and figure out a zero that will give you the flattest, most useful trajectory.

Savannah Arsenal so if I zero my rifle at the 25 yard set on “2” and in doing so that makes the 1 =100,2=200 etc etc... would that make the “battle setting” effective at 50-100 yards?

I like the Russian zero personally where you aim at the belt line to hit around center mass anywhere from 100 to 300 meters. But it gets tricky when you want to make hits on a small target from a distance. Have to train on those low holds. Good video

I believe your POA should be 3-4" for center mass hits. Might be wrong. Granted that a 25yd zero will get you center at 25 & 200. So at 100yds you'd have to aim low or aim center but get 3" high groups. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Im new to this.

I like 25 yrds zero. A little more range. And 3 to 6 inches off in the middle is still a killl. At 300 aim for center of head and you have a kill shot still

How come with my 7.62 x39 i sight in at 25 then at 50 I’m 6” high … idk I ended up sighting it in at 50 and it’s been good to 150 at least as far as hitting 8” and 6” steel plate that’s about all I’d look to get out of this caliber after 200 yards that’s gonna be the max it’s really not just a hope to get a hit shot. Where as 223/556 to hit steel plate out to 300 is just aim at it that bullet is way better at distance but up close there’s nothing better than a bigger bullet I love 7.62 if I had to actually fight and if I was defending a area give me a ar10 in 308 actually in most real life cases that would always be my first choice . 7.62x39 is a very strong round though it’s a hammer within 150yards

I sight my 7.62x39 guns at 50 yards. It's unlikely you'll choose that rifle for over 150 yard work and that zero makes it more useful at pertinent distances.
