Sig Sauer P365 Review

The Sig Sauer P365 is undoubtedly one of the best guns available for concealed carry, and with the many different versions offered it’s obvious why it's become so popular.
.
Sig Sauer designed the original P365 in 2017, and started producing them in 2018. At the time there wasn’t any other gun this size to my knowledge with 10 round capacity. It didn't take long for these subcompact pistols to build a loyal following. The Sig P365 is a striker fired gun, but is very unique because of its modular design. With most handguns the frame, or grip is the serialized part ( considered the gun ). Sig Sauer took a different approach placing the serial number on the stainless steel FCU, or fire control module. This allowed 3rd party manufactures to create grip modules, and is why the P365 is so customizable. With the P365 you aren't stuck with the grip, and can swap them out. People really liked this. For a long time Glock handguns were seen as the most customizable guns. In my opinion sig has now won that reputation. From swapping barrels, slides, recoil assemblies there really is no limit to what you can do with a Sig Sauer P365. One of the areas the Sig Sauer P365s really shine is capacity. In free states you can get mags that hold up to 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition, but even in California a pistol this size with a 10 round capacity of 9mm is impressive!
.
Sig Sauer P365s are primarily chambered in 9x19 Parabellum, and are rated for +P (Higher Pressure) ammunition. However Sig released a new Variant chambered in .380 ACP in February of 2022. Sig Sauer has many other variants of the P365 such as the Sig P365 XL, Sig P365 X, Sig P365 X Macro, Sig P365 X Legion, Sig P365 Spectre Comp, Sig P365 SAS, and the stunning P365 Rose which is accented with rose gold controls, and typically comes in an epic package. Sig Sauer even went on to introduce a California model. The CA Sig P365 features a loaded chamber indicator, or LCI. A manual safety. A magazine disconnect which prevents the gun from firing when the magazine is removed, and an RMS-C optics cut slide allowing you to install a red dot like the Vortex Defender CCW, HoloSun 407K, or 507K without needing an adapter plate.
.
When I think of guns this size there's few others that come to mind. The Sig P365 vs Hellcat is a great comparison because they both feature packed guns boasting impressive magazine capacity. The Springfield Hellcat is similar in size, and price however I prefer the grip angle of the Sig P365, and the Hellcat isn't as modular (Frame is the gun), and so its not as customizable as the Sig p365. Bringing up there rear in my opinion is the Glock 43X vs Sig P365. The Glock 43x is no doubt a great gun, but not only is it not as customizable it also doesn't have the same magazine capacity. Don't get me wrong you can get extended magazines, or baseplates. However by the time you do that the overall size of the Glock 43X is much less concealable.
.
The Sig Sauer P365 was the best selling handgun in 2018 & 2019, and for obvious reasons. With its capacity, and size it is something that can be concealed even during the hot months of summer when our clothes thin down. I imagine they had that in mind when naming it the P365 as it can be comfortably carried 365 days of the year!
.
As far as accessories, and holsters go there's no shortage as almost every major manufacture has something available. There's plenty of holster options from leather, kydex, hybrids and other materials options. Not limited to just inside the waistband (IWB). There's plenty of outside the waistband (OWB) options as well. When it comes to lights/lasers Companies like Streamlight, CrimsonTrace, NightStick, and even Sig Sauer Have offerings. I tested the NightStick 150 Lumen light/laser, and was impressed.
.
In terms of reliability the Sig P365 is 2nd to none. Some backstory on that. I got my P365 SAS right after it was released, and years later I couldn't even tell you how many rounds I've put through it. Aside from cleaning, and lubricating I haven't done anything else to it. Why would I it goes bang every time. Off the top of my head I can't think of any malfunction that wasn’t ammo related. In general I can't remember the last time I experienced a malfunction with it as it’s not very picky when it comes to ammo. With the exception of questionable reloads hahaha.
.
My sig is my daily go to, and I prefer to have it in a CrossBreed Hybrid Leather/Kydex holster. Its comfortable, and offers the retention I like, and covers the trigger.

I bought the XL Grip from Sig. After multiple unsuccessful attempts, realize that the grip isn’t CA compliant. Any suggestions on where to get a CA compliant version?

The main issue with finding grips for the ca version is the magazine disconnect, and manual safety. I know JT makes a really nice grip that's metal, and works directly with the CA FCU. Ive seen others remove the magazine disconnect which allows it to work with most grips. I've seen quite a few videos on how to do it. However I can't advise that.
