Siemens ebell Safetrans Type 3 hi mode low mode
my Siemens ebell running in both fast & slow or high & low tone modes during fault diagnosis and speaker replacement.
I am a complete novice with regard to crossing equipment so when I acquired this bell and applied 12vdc but got no sound I went straight to experts and fellow enthusiasts, @TazzieTransport and @HybridBell.
Taz and Rich diagnosed the problem and replaced the speaker and Taz also recorded and edited this video for me because we are 2 hours drive remote to eachother.
I'm am thrilled with the outcome and ever grateful for their skill and knowledge.
I'm very excited to hear this bell in person

This was a cool project. Thanks for trusting us with the bell. The original speaker was faulty so we installed a replacement from Jaycar which actually fit perfectly surprisingly. Poor speaker design was the culprit. I think the speaker coil tinsel lead wires had corroded, fatigued and thus caused open circuit. Warming up the solder joints didn’t help so I ended up having to disassemble the entire unit, remove the phenolic compression diaphragm then carefully scrape off the epoxy adhesive from the voice coil and gently pry off the coil wire to obtain a length long enough so that I could resolder it onto the terminals. It’s repaired and working now, but the replacement speaker is a much better component; it’s louder, more durable, and of higher fidelity too!
Was fun working on it! Siemens equipment isn’t the most reliable so this modification will make it withstand more then it was originally build to handle!
Very nice. What are your plans for this belle, sir?
