Thank you. I have a non functioning Siel Cruise that’s been staring me in the face for a year. It has almost zero output so hopefully it’s a bad connection in the area of discussion in the second half of your video. It’s a very cool sounding synth.

Yes, often times, there are a lot of connection issues to contend with, as well as other component problems etc. In fact I just posted the "Siel Cruise completion video" and covered over some more connection problems etc. and there were others I choose not to show in the interest of time, since the video was getting lengthy. Nonetheless, hope You are able to narrow in on the problem, my best to ya :-)

Hello there, if you weren't able to get those spring contacts soldered back onto the circuit board properly that will definitely cause problems. But there may be other connection issues etc that need to be resolved. The unit in the video needed a lot of work, mostly involving bad connections throughout. My best to you, hope you get it figured out 🙂

Hi. Which product do you use to clean the contact bar? I am restoring a string machine with the same contact "technology"

Good afternoon, there are several options, however, I typically use 99% anhydrous alcohol and swabs to clean buses and contacts in most situations. If tarnish / oxidation is really bad you can also use "Tarn-x". Additionally you can polish contact surfaces with a "jewelers scratch pen", which is a pen type tool with very fine fiberglass bristles. Most contact cleaners applied to a swab will also work well, there are several options as you can see. Thanks for chiming in, my best to you 🙂

Interesting tour through a piece not seen much anymore. We used to think these things were magic.

They are very interesting pieces of gear, both from a technological and historic perspective. As many of the truly great bands of our modern era started adopting the synth into their creative arsenal, "the room" really "opened up" into a whole other sonic dimension. A whole lotta hits with cool synth contributions were created, The Cars were a great example of that, and many other bands as well. Thanks again for chiming in 🙂

Hello Mr. Edwards, The Siel Cruise is an Italian made synth brought to market by Siel (Societa Industrie Elettroniche), they originally produced electronic organs (which you may already know), however, I don't have information on the engineering team behind the design. Thank You for chiming in, have a good day / weekend.

Hey Ernest! I'm also repairing a Siel Cruise currently and noticed that the animator chorus on mine was not being applied to the strings - or at least could not be toggled. The animator section of the manual says that it "inserts the animation effect in the voices in which it is not already inserted automatically." My question is should the LED for the animator amount be on when strings have been selected and should I be able to toggle it? Thanks for your help from these videos!

Good morning, that is a good question, since this Siel Cruise currently in my shop is not mine, I am not too familiar with all of it's workings, as I have not performed a super detailed function test of all the parameters (yet). I am in the process of getting the synth put back together, so, if You don't have it worked out by then, I'll try to remember to look into that for You. It makes sense that You should be able to toggle it, but again, I'm not certain at this point.

No worries, I'll take a closer look at the schematic and possibly the poly logic board!
