Siddhis: The Magical Powers of the Spiritual Masters

In this episode of Enlightenment Today, we will explore siddhis, the attainment of magical powers through rigorous spiritual practice. Siddhis are mentioned in a host of texts in the East, some with a positive attitude to these attainments and others with a negative stance against them. In this episode I will give siddhis an honest and open hearing based on this unique phenomenon recorded by spiritual adepts which is found in the the traditions of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Taoism. In the end it is a matter of whether you are skeptical or a believer of this ancient spiritual phenomenon.

Jason is right on! When I found your channel, I asked ( with frustrated passion) Where were you when I started out. I was led to those who were after siddhis. I was an extremely serious seeker, and was so disappointed with every new teacher/guru. I didn't realize that I was getting advanced training without consciously asking. I now pay attention to my life experiences because they are lessons from the most high.

Anthony, I so feel you about getting advanced training from life experiences. All though, asking sometimes helps. I once had an "angel" (The most attractive man I've EVER seen in my life) show up in a very random spot in a forest near a beach where NO one else would walk besides me (and apparently him). I had just seemingly managed to heal some very minor wounds on my feet right before he showed up. We got to talking and he told me a story about his sister-in-law making a tumor go away via eating an insane amount of green beans. I'm 100% sure it wasn't the green beans, that it was actually her believe OR more likely, suspension of disbelieve that cured her. Because THAT is how I healed my small wounds. THAT his how I learned to manage life long allergies as well as stop misquito bites from getting really bad. I didn't ask for teaching that time; it just happened. Another time I flat out asked Spirit or whatever for some answers about telepathy because I was on the verge of having a breakdown around this stuff. I then "randomly" one day decided to go to a place called Spirit Lake with a friend. We "randomly" stopped at a little deli on the way so I could get a sandwich. I walked in the door and saw an old friend that I hadn't seen in 20 years but had thought of often. I thought of him often because he was the ONE person in my life that I felt could prove to me that telepathy is real. See, we had gotten our palms read at one point together and the reader was saying all sorts of crazy things about my friend. My friend later claimed that all of them were true, that he hadn't told anyone and swore me to secrecy. (This wasn't the typical love line etc etc stuff btw). The reader got ONE thing out of me; but I was actively blocking him because: A) I didn't believe and didn't WANT to believe in this stuff and B) I flat out saw a blue light shoot out of the readers forehead and go into my friends when he started reading my friend (he went first) and it freaked me out. I blocked it when I saw it and saw it splat across my forehead. .... this same friend was a bit of a prankster and I could see him staging this sort of thing. I also wasn't sure if I had told him about the one thing the reader got from me. Well, 20 years later when I saw that friend; I asked him if it was a prank and he was like, "Nope, it was legit." My mind was blown. I for one am leaning more towards the Tantric way of things. But, idk.. Buddhism also has it's appeal. The whole just realizing that everything is impermanent and that because of that achieving anything isn't worth it is appealing. Now I'm like, "uh, what to I do with my life? I don't feel like I can function in "normal" life any more. I really don't have much of an interest to even do so anyway. I look at most things people do and go "Eeeh, that feels so childish" " It's a weird place to be. I now just spend most of my time goofing off. But, I'm realizing that this is a rest period. Advances are STILL happening... but I Asked a few years ago for spirit to take it easy on me instead of throwing me in the deep end. (Which I feel like has happened before and it scared the crap out of me and really triggered my unbelieving self.) Anyway, just make sure you ask for gentleness, compassion and understanding along the path. Well, unless you like it rough; then by all means, ask for Everything Everywhere All at Once. .... go see that movie first though. That route is well, hard.

The issue with siddhis is that, if one happens to attain one, it usally gets miss used, in India this happens a lot. Vedanta philosophy is right when it says that siddhis can hamper the ability towards the spiritual path if one's ego is not dissolved. In order for siddhis to be truly beneficial one must perceive it with a pure heart and mind, devoid of ego, selfishness and bad intentions. But even then, attaining a siddhi is quite difficult, especially in this age of the Kali Yuga.

@@jaco9286 , that isn't true. It depends on your level of enlightenment. Some siddhis are very useful in everyday life and in the quest to further become enlightened. Ergo, mastery over one's body is a GREAT thing to have even at the more entry level realms. Ergo, imagine not being in pain, being able to heal wounds, etc etc or for people like me; being able to not have massive horrible allergy attacks that make you dependent on drugs or that force you to sleep for HOURS after one hits. It's not a you get them all at once at the end of the path sort of thing. I feel like you get them as way points while walking the path. (And once you get them sure, you can stray off the path.)

However, others will say that sometimes it's ok to use them for others.. and that part of becoming enlightened is knowing when it's ok. But, I'm like uh..... how does one know if you know for sure that its ok? Also, there are others that would say that meddling and helping others is a higher calling that one should always do.... but again, you need to know what is the RIGHT thing to do... and THAT is hard.

Thanks so much for that topic. I see why many practices are kept secret. But to be honest, I think the world would be a better place if some of these practices would be released in order to bring balance. On the one hand there is technology and knowledge kept secret that could uplift humanity and the same goes for the ancient spiritual knowledge. I can confirm that siddis are true, as well as the energy related magic from personal experience. I really wish all humanity to wake up soon… there is so much to learn about our reality. And it could be used to do so much good in this realm.

... that the reality we perceive is being simultaneously perceived through 'all-eyes-as-one' (as far as self-oriented-reference-pt perception goes) is the ultimate core Siddhi ... life is created 'moment to moment' the 'big bang' of the momentary realization and simultaneous cessation and creation of all that has ever been and all that will ever be can surely dispel the need to argue for or against use/misuse of Siddhis ... Siddhi = manifestation in marriage to cessation

Great Vid👍. I’ve been looking into such things more often lately. I believe the world needs an individual who understands how spiritually, mentally and physically enslaved we all are. So this individual needs to be born enslaved into the very world they incarnated into to SAVE. I know I’m getting into second coming areas. People of this world of darkness and hopelessness need to see, experience and most importantly interact with an individual who grew and matured in this world and somehow has mastered SUPERPOWERS for lack of a better term. This would inspire our world so powerfully that the darkness enslaving it would be obliterated by the very slaves living in it. Proving to the slaves that they too can do such things and we are all children of GOD. The downside for said Superhero is knowing that he or she will not be activating their Rainbow body this lifetime, however the satisfaction of Spiritually Liberating an entire World of life would Echo through Eternity. When the work is done, I’d smile laugh and say “Sure I’ll return One Last Time” ❤️👍😎

Random Stuff Online One doesn’t not gain spiritual powers by mastering the mind or by reducing the ego. For example many corrupt spiritual teachers in the ego gain a following by saying siddhis lead to enlightenment, promising Siddons for a price….. If it was a matter of mastering the mind, than Navy Seals, extreme endurance athletes, along with many others highly strong minded and disciplined individuals would have extreme siddhis. This leads me to conclude that after years and years of spiritual practices or tantric means, raising kundalini…. One developes siddhis naturally as a side effect of getting more I tune with the energetic body of the soul, getting in tune more with the soul, giving them more excess to the mind and its capabilities. There able to excess the blocked parts of the mind. Siddhis are not accomplishments of the mind, but of the soul which gives you excess to the mind. I used to think the more excess you had to your mind, the more enlightened you were, maybe the more capabilities you will have as an individual, but psychologically maturity, self realizations, enlightenment…. isn’t based on how much of your mind you can use, but how much you have developed psychologically. Psychological development and mind usage are to different things. We see this in a lot of new age movement, star seeds, indigos….. The individuals have great gifts, but not a certain level of maturity. Reaching Psychological maturity is the evolutionallry process to enlightenment. When you develope your psych, you grow spiritually, that is the purpose of the spiritual evolutionary processs, psychological maturity is enlightenment, mastery of the psychy. Anybody can develope siddhis after years of meditation, yoga… , or just instantly by a guru, teacher, not very one can develope there psychy to the point of maturity. That is why we’re here on earth, that is why very few are enlightened.

I definitely believe in siddhis. Approximately 20 years had an experience where I accidentally discovered I used one of the siddhis. My friend had a machine that could convert vcr recordings to dvd. My vcr ribbon was caught on the heads in the machine. I couldnt pull the tape free because that would destroy the tape. I si desperately wanted this tape more than anything. To my disbelief the heads that the ribbon was caught on disappeared for approximately 1 second, enough time for me to pull the ribbon(tape) free. I was in total disbelief and shock. Prior to this happening I had been meditating 2 plus hours a day using using taoist meditations from Mantak Chia's book Awaken the Healing Light of the Toa. I will never forget thisexperience and I'm so appreciative to have been blessed enough to have experienced that. We are all very powerful and should truly know this.

To perform a siddhi effectively (also meaning thread) requires 3 ingredients: Samadhi, gyan and dharana meaning: pure Consciousness, vibration and intend. But they are not a goal in itself. They helping cleaning the nervous system as part of a sadhana. Siddhies are as I was taught in your own language hence "intend and (known) vibration) One siddhi is "navel" (bellybutton) which gives a view of the psychology or "Relationship between body and Akash" and "Lightness of cotton fibre" which creates a level of levitation, but again the siddhies are not a goal it is means to attain higher state of consciousness.

I don't think belief is important at all, people believe all sorts of things, including liberation / enlightenment. I love to watch these things, and immerse myself in satsangs, but what it comes down to in the end is our constant vigilance, investigation of our own experience. Belief wont get anyone anywhere! This is an important point. Believing in a flat Earth or in extraterrestrials would improve our life in any reliable way, but regular spiritual practice, such as transcending, will. It's the difference between belief and experience. Belief can keep us on a path only a short time. There has to be some actual benefit that can serve as motivation to continue one's practice, even if the path is an effortless one.

Siddhis are real and I earned mine through spiritual practice over lifetimes and decades in this life. I do not follow any of these religions/spiritualities necessarily. They come regularly with practice even if it is a Western practice as well such as Qaballah or study of Metaphysics. I do not have them all only a couple but it is quite clear that they are present in my life. And I only use them through the power and permission of The Creator. Obviously none of the black magick ones LOL I am surprised that you did not talk about psychic ability here (Clairvoyant, clairgustatory, clairsentience, etc) and also telepathy, bilocation (different from teleportation) and flying which is different from levitation, as well as invisibility. I love these and they help me to help others such as stopping rain so a sick friend won't get sicker while walking home or starting rain when there is a drought condition and people need water, for example. It is funny because the ones you will take for granted (the ones you really want you don't get first it seems ha ! like flying or levitation.. I want those but don't get them) I have had some instant manifestations come to pass.. I created instantly maple syrup showing up in my cupboard when I had guests and needed to feed them breakfast.. no syrup. closed the cabinet.. thought hard an willed it into existence and opened up the cabinet and there it was! I was doing this for others so I think this is why this happened. When I try to will a piece of red licorice it never happens ha ha.. I guess when it is personal gain, it is harder to manipulate matter.

Perhaps the best-known source of siddhi instruction and advocacy today is the Maharishi TM-Sidhi Program, which teaches the yogic technique of sanyama that develop siddhis. This technique is sometimes implied to be filled with effort, yet it's actually effortless. Practitioners of the TM-Sidhi Program practice from about three hours a day on up, depending on the available time. This program takes about a month to learn in residence, so it is necessarily costly. It is a powerful way to eliminate stress from the nervous system, which allows us to transfer our identity from the separate and limited self, the ego, to universal consciousness, or Brahman. Practicing the levitation portion ("flying") brings the bliss of watching silent consciousness rise up into dramatic activity. In this program, the siddhis are practiced ONLY as a stepping stone to higher natural states of consciousness, not to use them in daily ego-bound life. A prerequisite for learning the siddhis in this way, effectively, is regular practice of Transcendental Meditation™.

All spiritual teachings should be free. Run from anything that charges you money. I understand that we live in a world that requires money for physical operations. However, if someone or an organization is legit enough; they will be thriving off of donations and not have to charge a penny for anything. And btw, TM is corrupt AF. Go watch the interviews on here with Maha Maharesina towards the end of his life. He became totally separated from the everyday happenings of his organization. It's understandable how it happened; ergo a combo of him becoming so spiritually advanced that he lost interest and touch with money as well as his organization probably buffering a lot of their actions from him. (Also, probably a good dose of corruption on his own part, unwitting and unsought after probably.) ----Like seriously, the man let his follower build him a palace. He should have been like, "No, don't do this thing. It is a waste of money, let us use it to further the learning." But no, he just moved in. At the very least, anyone or any organization that charges for teachings should make it very clear that they are also open to those that don't have money and take people AT THEIR word that they can't pay and offer discounts or free teaching.

Don't our children deserve free teaching? Why should teachers be paid? Whether teachers of children or teachers of spirituality, teachers deserve to be paid for their training, experience, and devotion to their work, regardless of what the world expects. If you are willing to work for free, that is nice, but not everyone is wealthy, especially teachers of children and spiritual teachers.

Unsavory practices. It just means that as in all other pursuits the pursuit of spirituality can be easily corrupted by those interested solely in self-interested advantage. This is the basic flaw in our nature, isn't it? But just as in all those other pursuits those so engaged are very easy to spot. At least to those sufficiently aware. So, the goal, here, is to work on your own awareness of the whole. When you do this there will come a point where you will see immediately those who have only their self-interests at heart. You will then steer clear of them. They are simply not as evolved, as far along the way, as you and so are unnecessary. Just some thoughts worth about that much. John~ American Net'Zen

Keep in mind this is the Advaita Vedanta tradition, as Ramana Maharshi followed that path. This is my favorite place in the world and I go there regularly for sadhana. How to acquire Siddhis [ specifically Telepathy, Omniscience, Telekinesis ? ]

  • @JasonGregoryAuthor

    4 жыл бұрын

Siddhis are a natural byproduct of strict spiritual sadhana. From all reports, they may occur after a long time engrossed in a specific spiritual practice, such as vipassana, hatha yoga, or qi gong. But siddhis should not be desired in and of themselves. No one should ever desire siddhis and they actually won't happen for someone with such a mindset. They are just an effect of someone's spiritual quest for liberation. For some, the ego can get attracted to them and use them for selfish needs. This is what black magic is in the internal arts. Siddhis have nothing to do with liberation, but may signal that one is making some ground in their practice. But even siddhis have to be dropped for realization. Liberation should always be the focus, the realization that Atman is Brahman.

"high moral values" apparently refer to (in most cultures) amongst humans. As long as we're not sinning against our neighbor, it's all fine. We can still kill animals to eat them or pretend we're not killing animals by eating plants (which is a glitch in the matrix because apparently, plants don't feel pain?). It is immoral to wish anything bad upon human meat, but if it's a pig there's nothing wrong with it apparently. This sort of pixie dust morality in spiritual traditions makes me sick sometimes.

The aptly-named *shat-karma* Aspects of lower tondra all have one property in common, Which inherently generates karma that seeks to have you experienced the same interaction from the Opposite perspective, In order to maximize the information generated from a single interaction this actually occurs when you help other people come up to, it just happens Simultaneously, and is experienced as a feeling of love and unity. That having been said, separation isn't all bad,And it's, in fact, actually necessary to have any meaningful experience at all, as without it, everything Would all be smashed together, and Without the absence of 1/2 of the diabetes, there would be no Meaningful experience, which seems to suggest that unity is call functionally speaking, identical to non existence, which would explain why the creator Spends its time playing this rousing game of "I'm not touching you" with chaos and non-existence, Because it can't actually exists as everything coming within the context of conscious experience, As even if it existed in that completely billions of years, Without any form of dicoda mean I caught a me come upon which 2 define meaning with an experience, The awareness would inherently begin Experiencing holographic hallucimachines, artifacts of it it's information processing Machinations, as it is necessitated by the nature of consciousness to have experience, meaning that when there is no Stimuli automatically being presented, consciousness necessarily and automatically Generate its own, As evidenced by human beings within sensory deprivation scenarios Quickly hallucinating fully immersive experiences until alternate stimuli are reintroduced. This actually leads me to believe That this is the definition of our reality, fat the creator hasn't actually generated anything, but is simplywe're donating due to the fact that is devoid of Enough particular quality to actually experience anything other than the holographic artifacts of the way it processes information.

It's insane. I was raised catholic and was encouraged to delve deep into catholic religion. I've read many religious scriptures and am well informed of the bible. I won't go into specifics, but about 12 years ago I had what I will call a "spiritual experience". In this "experience" I was "told" that I needed to explore meditation and that meditation would guide me to the "knowledge" I was seeking (at the time I wanted to know what was real as far as the spiritual) I had NEVER meditated in my life (consciously) and, in fact, always thought it was a waste of time or useless. So I began to meditate and meditate and meditate. Over a period of 3 months I would say, my life and the way I saw things changed forever. I learned that even though I was raised Catholic, religion is NOT the way to TRUE spiritual enlightenment. I learned that the path to enlightenment also involves one letting go of wants and desires. I learned that dominating the ego and ultimately releasing the ego was another step to true spirituality. Another thing I learned along the way was that I was attaining these "powers" or special abilities like being able to feel what someone is thinking or doing, being energetic by eating less, or having boundless energy all the while sleeping less. Thanks to your video, now I understand that these "gifts" or "special abilities" are real and they're called "Siddhis" I never understood any of this, or why it was happening. Imagine my SHOCK at realizing that all of these experiences are congruent with Buddhism (I didn't even know this until I started sharing my experiences with a really devout Cristian and he mentioned that my experiences were really sounding like Buddhism). How could this be POSSIBLE if I was raised Catholic? To this day I don't understand what Buddhism is in its entirety but I DO know (I've looked for information on this recently) that the Buddha was someone who attained almost perfect spiritual enlightenment. How was he able to do this? Through deep meditation and spiritual development. Which again, is so weird to me because I was attempting to find the truth about spirituality and it led me to the beginning: Meditation. Nobody told me to do this, I was made to know about this in a "vision". Mind you, if you were wondering... I don't use mind altering chemicals or substances and never have. (Neither did I have a near death experience, as most people usually say they "see things" in those experiences as well) I've always had a deep personal "feeling" that your body is your temple, and you should always respect it and uphold it. Again, I don't know how or why I felt this way because as a Catholic, you just pray and pray and pray and "hope that god forgives you for being a SINNER" and all that jazz (Atleast that's what I understood from all the church goings and bible studies etc) Thank you for your video on this subject matter. Your work is GREATLY appreciated.

All due respect, but I do not believe what you're describing are siddhis, at least not in the way they're described here or from what I've heard. They're just natural byproducts of an eastern monastic lifestyle. water fasting often leads to increased energy. Meditation can supplement sleep. Deep meditation raises your level of consciousness and makes you more aware, intuitive, and perceptive.

Each Siddhi is a test of the yogi. If the yogi uses the Siddhis, then he or she has to do much more to renounce the Siddhis. Once all the Siddhis are renounced, the yogi attains liberation. He or she merges with Lord Shiva. However, to begin meditation to get these Siddhis, one has to first renounce the earthly pleasures, namely, meat, sex, lies, ego, ownership, etc. Then learn yoga postures, breathing and meditation. Only then can one begin meditation for Siddhis. As and when one gets the Siddhis, one has to remain calm and remain almost indifferent. Siddhis should only be seen as “markers” showing the yogi the path to enlightenment and liberation.
