SID VICIOUS London home and neighborhood walking tour.

Ойын-сауық

Did you ever wonder where Sid Vicious lived after he joined the Sex Pistols? Me too. So I went there recently and walked his former neighborhood. I go to the Warrington Pub, where he and Nancy probably drank, and I visit the flat of his friend Steve Dior, whose band The Idols backed him in NYC. Finally I visit his former home at 3 Pindock Mews. You'll be surprised how beautiful his former home is today. Sadly, he only lived here about 1 1/2 years before moving to NYC, where he died a few months later.

The canal is right in front of you. From there, if you get on the path and go left, when it branches of to the right, you'll go to Paddington and to the left goes to Regents Park and Camden. Going by Marc Bolan's old flat and calling the Warwick Castle "my local" for a week was wonderful. Brilliant video, it was really interesting to see where Sid used to live and hang out. The thing that surprises me when I see where a lot of these punks lived, is how affluent the areas are. But... London did not necessarily look that nice back in the mid to late 70s. Covent Garden for instance, where the Roxy was, did not look upmarket back then. I lived in London from 1993 to 1997, wish I had checked out maidavale and Notting hill, campden town etc more back them. In one of the videos you see Sid exiting the mews on a motorbike & naturally I'd thought they were shot at Pindock Mews. On seeing your video, however, I'm not so sure. Whist the front doors look sort of right, the right hand side of the mews, when he's on the bike, have a fence-line rather than houses & one wonders where these mews are. I was thinking they might be St Lukes Mews in Notting Hill (long-owned by music industry people & where Paula Yates was tragically found dead) but no, St Lukes Mews also look wrong. Love your show. I used to go to London especially parking on Edith Grove near Chelsea and just around the corner there's Gunter Grove and the latter is where sid and johnny rotten lived for a while maybe around 77 78 and also Nancy was staying there as well but Johnny's didn't like Nancy so whether Johnny moved out becoming of her i don't know. According to John the flat or apartment stank really bad i won't say what he said it stank like. I would alway head to portobello road and spend hours there pity i wasn't really old enough then because Joe Strummer and Clash and a few years later Wendy james from Transvision Vamp was alway down there especially in the Warwick Castle pub who had a relationship in the late 80s with Mick Jones from the Clash. She's now.a solo artist living in france and New York and has a new album coming out any time She's great please check her out she has some stories to tell and also had Glen matlock play bass on one of her albums The price of the ticket. Your films are alway full of content and are always front the heart and entertaining ❤

Another great post! Thanks. Keep them coming. I'll have to visit the Warrington on my day off next week. In another post you mentioned encountering Sid drowning his sorrows after a gig at the 100 Club (I think). You saw a side of Sid then that few people would have seen publicly. The story about Sid robbing the dead bloke of his money and watch is darkly amusing and probably closer to his public image than the vulnerable Sid you met that time. And ... Old Speckled Hen is one of my favourites too!😊

That is a fantastic pub. I wish I lived nearby! I talked to Sid and Nancy after his solo gig at the Electric Ballroom in Camden - August 15, 1978. He seemed kind of down and surprised when I said he did a great gig. But he seemed sweet too. That's when they told me they were moving to New York. She said London was "shit" compared to NYC. I had no idea he lived in such a nice place at the time. Thanks for watching!

@@WhyNotGoPlaces Of course, Electric Ballroom, my mistake. I wish I had your chutzpah. I live in Chiswick, west London, and one afternoon a few years back (around 2009) I encountered Amy Winehouse. I was in a Starbucks on the High Road when a black people-carrier pulled up outside and who should emerge from it but Amy. At first I thought 'That lass has got the whole Amy Winehouse thing going on', then I realised it actually was her. A mutter went round the cafe as she stood quietly waiting for her coffee (by herself). She was 2 feet away from me but she was giving off such an 'I'm really not in the mood' kind of vibe I didn't acknowledge her. Our eyes met but I couldn't summon up the courage to speak! 😄 (Also, the Pistols recorded some demos and rehersed somewhere here in Chiswick, but I've never been able to ascertain where. There's a photo of them, very early days, looking over a wall. When I see it in books all the caption ever says is 'Sex Pistols in Chiswick.')

Thanks so much, I love your vids - great to get a regular Pistols fix and more. The Warrington is gorgeous, hope I manage to visit before too long - I thought it looked familiar, though, and sure enough, it features in episodes of my favourite TV shows, namely Minder and The Sweeney. It appears in the episode 'Night Out' of the latter, one of the best, I feel. Pindock Mews likewise is familiar from maybe hundreds of Brit TV shows and films. I'm sure it was a desirable address going way back. Stirling Moss may have had a place there? I'm sure an F1 fan will correct me.
