SID music: Parallax (main theme - stereo Dolby Headphone)

Музыка

Parallax (C64, 1986) main theme by Martin Galway. This upload is intended for headphones only.
This is a long track with somewhat distinct parts in it imho. Below is a jumplist with names made up by myself - they aren't official or anything:
00:00 intro
02:41 prelude
06:46 main part
09:19 outro (warning! nasty loud sound at the start of this)
Emulated with JSIDPlay2:

As a 53-year-old, listening to this brings back many memories for me, thought the game wasn't up to much, however, this tune is still in my top 10 list of SID tunes. many games I'd buy just for the music alone came across two websites, one has most of the SID tunes and a SID player..High Voltage SID Collection and the other website has many C64 tunes including remixes using up-to-date keyboard synths... remix kwed, google both for the websites.

Theres definitely something special about this piece you're not wrong. Considering the technology to hand the soundscapes these guys produced were at times mind blowing and tracks like this still stand up today.

I'll never tire of this. I remember leaving the tv on really loud and just leaving this on repeat. My brother was in his room trying to have a normal conversation. It took a while, but they closed the door and tried. Eventually they couldn't stand it any more and shut it off. Don't think he remembers... I also love the piano version which is played with almost no errors in one sitting by one guy. 3:13 in you start wondering how is this possible and it just keeps building. I'm a Galway fan always. Love Hubbard too, but each new Ocean game with Galway/Collier/Wahid was the highlight of my childhood. Even if the game was crap, the music wouldn't disappoint.

Agree on them being fantastic, but actually it was Johannes Bjerregaard that did those.

Randomly felt listening to this today. 5 minutes in and i decide i have to say thanks to whoever posted such a good quality version. Turns out I've done this before. I've commented on this video 2 years ago and forgotten about it. Getting old. See you in 2 years, I suppose.

I actually adore this track in full. That 'nasty loud sound' is delicious! I'm tempted to bet there isn't another 8bit machine capable of making such a weird and psychedelic drone as that :) Thank you for posting it in full, without chopping it off as other youtubers tend to do.

The Apple II GS has the DOC chip, which is what Bob Yannes was trying to do when he was working on the SID but never quite got it working and so SID wasn't never what he originally designed. So the DOC chip could do some great things, maybe more PCM based rather than synthesis. However the Apple IIGS used a 16-bit modification of the 6502 so it's not an 8-bit machine.

i much prefer the intro and the prelude. i don't feel lead lines on the sid chip sounded too enjoyable back then. one of the best i've heard from the sid and martin though, without a doubt.
