After a long time without a serious Audio system and two of my sons investing in some good old school equipment, I bought a pair of Magnepan 1.7i. I took them to the son with the best system at the time. (Both have respectable audio systems) After hooking them up and turning them on for the first time, after literally 10 seconds my other son turned to me and said now he knows what is wrong with every other speaker he has ever heard. The lack of box is just so instantly apparent. I've always thought of Maggies more as drivers and the room is the cabinet.

Hi: I enjoyed your video extolling the virtues of Magnapan panel speakers. I've been a Maggie lover ever since my first pair of Maggie's, the MG-II's, many years ago then the 1.6's which followed. My current set up consists of the 1.7's,on Mye stands with the fuses by-passed, which as you'd mentioned did make a huge difference. Along with the 1.7's I have a pair of REL R-205 subs to round out the extreme bottom end. For amplification an Audio Space KT-88 integrated amp, Michell Gyro Dec SE with Rega RB 3000 tone arm and a Benz-Micro LP-S MR moving coil cartridge attached to a Funk Firm cartridge de-coupler. This intern is patched into the fabulous Fosgate Signature Tube phono pre-am. For CD reproduction I'm using a Shanling tubed CD-300 CD player XLR'd into a Schiit Audio Yggdrasil DAC a truly amazing sounding system. Some background I've been a professional studio/touring musician for over 40 years and now I finally have a system that does justice to the studio masters I've acquired over these many years and of course my extensive vinyl and CD collection! Keep up the good work I appreciate your in-depth videos!
Loving mine, just got them and they are blowing me away for only $995! Add an active crossover and these babies sing!
Hey Mikey Great Video!!! Love Maggies.

@@stevebiron3036 I’m so impressed by the Magnariser mk7 stands for the LRS+. It has transformed the speaker from a excellent speaker to a world class speaker. I’m not using the subwoofer anymore because it’s much more focused in the middle bass than before. I’m not saying that it’sa speaker that can replicate an organ but it sounds so much better than before and I was impressed with the sound of the speakers in the stock stands.
I got my LRS+ a couple of days ago. All I have to say is wow! I had the original LRS on order around 3 years ago but the waiting list was so long that I cancelled the order and purchased a pair of Emotiva T2+ instead which were the about the same price. The Emotiva's sound great but I knew I was missing something. I listen mostly to jazz and classical and occasionally some light rock. I also occasionally listen to high energy fusion such as Mahavishnu Orchestra when I'm in the mood. The LRS fit the bill for the most part. I'm running them with an Outlaw Audio 2160-MkII and Cambridge Azur 851N, I mostly play FLAC files ripped from CDs I own. I also have a Rotel CD11 Tribute. This setup is minimal. My room is not that large where I can take full advantage of the LRS but they sound just great. The best sound of course is placing yourself in the sweet spot directly in front of them but honestly, they sound good even when not directly in front. The detail in the upper mid range and the highs are life like. The bass sounds great for most of the music I listen to but I may get a sub down the road to provide a little more bottom and sound stage. If any of you listen to a lot of ECM recordings for Jazz and classical you'll love these.
Thanks for the Video Mr. OCD! Great speakers, made in White Bear Lake MN. 2 Blocks from me!

Yeah buddy, was just there ! Im a Cake eater ! lol
I just received my LRS+. They are excellent! The sound stage is amazing. You can walk by them and feel like the band is in the room. The bass is sufficient. I added a little from the amplifier. I am only driving them with a 100 watt per channel (4 ohms) tube amp. Is loud enough for my bedroom. You should double the wattage if you were driving loud movies and such in a large room. But, this sounds excellent.
Yeah man. I think I'm going to have to order a pair. I couple years ago I had an order in for the original LRS but the wait for them was too long. I ended up getting a pair of Emotiva T2+ which were the same price. They are pretty good but I think I still want the LRS. I'd be running them with a Outlaw RR2160 MkII with a Cambridge Audio Azure 851N to play FLAC files.

Cool stuff, Mikey. I have always said that small Maggie's were the best choice for good audio at a reasonable price. However in the past, distant past, the expense of an amp that could drive them usually negated the price range of someone putting together their first system. I am interested to hear what you have to say about current day amps that can get the job done with these speakers, and how much the amps will cost. Rock On !!

I know you already said you recommend the Roland which is class D but I have a home cinema could they be used here? Thanks again. Appreciate your expertise
OCD Guy, this is a followup of my first response to your channel. I SURE HOPE you and I are on the same page--taste wise. I say that because I am waiting on a delivery of LRS +. Everyone has different tastes and hearing, and expectations. But I really am hoping for that "floating music in my room" sound. Not necessarily emanating from my speakers. But just space. I have a Hegel H390. Right now it powers Focal speakers. And the DAC inside the H390 seems just fine to me.
I love Thievery Corporation. Saw them live at Camp Bisco many years ago. They are like the kings of collabs. Have one of the best music catalogues ever made. I need to hear these speakers.

Right on Mikey Brother. Got them right after Capital Audiofest and they are truly amazing even full range and using them in my triamped system for the mid-bass/lower midrange, and they are doing better than the highly acclaimed Purifi 6.5 inch driver in that same range of 80 to 500 Hz. It will be great to hear some demos that you set up with them. I am using custom homemade Purifi 1ET400A monoblocks with super power supplies for this frequency range and they sound fantastic for this important frequency range. They are the perfect match to the linesource of 8 NEO8 planar magnetic drivers on each side too that go from 500 Hz up. Thanks for showing people how easy it is to get into high-end sound and super imaging with these amazing planar magnetic quasi-ribbon drivers. Just a small correction - They are 48 inches high, not 3 ft. Fantastic Mikey......Prof. Jim

Hi Mikey. Can I make this work for techno? Which subs and electronics? Will you share when you set them up?

OCD Guy, I'm sure you've been told this many times. You keep it real. The first video I saw was regarding the turntable BS. At the beginning of the video I thought--oh well here's another "get off my lawn dude." And believe me I'm MUCH older than you. But then I watched the entire video. I agree--especially on the turntable part. I always felt that society, technology, science move FORWARD. I felt that most of the so called resurgence on TT's was because many of the younger generation felt they missed the ROMANCE of the turntable. And while I understand the sound difference when done right. However I thought the CD ,back in the 80's passed it by. I'm glad I found your channel.

I believe I would love some Maggies. Maybe later in the year after the sky falls on the world financial system. Maybe then I could upgrade my dac to an r2r ladder. I think my BasX and Asgard 3 are fairly neutral and I think my Sanskrit 2 is sharp but I think it works good with my warm bi-amped speakers (used). My entire system is well under $1000.
Do these excel in all types of music ?

For sure !
I moved the brown wire to the positive terminal with the red wire and moved the black wire where the brown wire was (because it is completely out of the loop and is safely tied down). Now, the brown wire (like the red wire) goes directly from the positive input straight to the crossover. The brown wire is connected to the tweeter part of the crossover, and the red wire goes to the mid/woofer part. The difference in sound quality is amazing. Much cleaner sound.

Remember guys this is a hobby but if you’re going to buy magnum pans Maggies, which remote normally call them the ORS plus is a wonderful wonderful speaker but again it takes a lot of current. It’s only 4080 for the B that’s not that’s very inefficient so you need a lot of current clean current Horsepower typically they could take 500 W of channel and enjoy it but if you’re looking for magna pants you need to find a hike or an a.m. that goes the four ohms at least minimum 200 340 W a channel driven at four ohms blows them up beautifully and compare them to a $20,000 speaker. System will be hard to tell the difference you’ve got to experience them if you’ve never experienced a high-performance automobile you have to try it once and then you’ll see what you’ve been missing enjoy your hobby it’s for all of us have a good holiday and a good 23.

LRS TIPS : speakers can be set up with tweeters to the outside or inside , for most people tweeter to the "inside " is best - stock stands suck investigate a company called Mye stand - Magnepan is deigning a new stand which lifts speaker off floor and is an option if you dont want a Mye stand - stock fuses suck and can be removed at your own risk for a notable sound improvement or an upgraded ceramic outer fuse can yield improvements if you want the protection - LRS have a very long break in period and will improve for up to a year of playing - stands can be sand bag loaded for improved dynamics - speaker location is critical - keep speakers away from back wall - start with approx 15 degree tow -in , speakers can be leaned back or set perpendicular 90 degree to the floor so experiment - speakers sound better if raised half a foot off the floor - use a laser pointer measuring device to set speaker distance to ear precisely the same - inexpensive home depot solid core copper electricians wire works fine as speaker cable - IMPORTANT : choice of amp is critical in getting proper dynamics out of this amp and the LRS will separate the men from the boys regardless of the hype you read about your amp - look for a class A/B solid state amp with huge capacitors and transformers - look for an amp that doubles in power as the impedance drops - you are going to want hundreds of watts in a big ol beast of an amp - keep away from direct sunlight if possible as UV light is not good - tube equipment not needed as speakers impart the sound stage 3d "tubey " effect by themselves somehow - a simple great sounding system can consist of the following - cd player into a Pass labs B1 buffer - into a larger 80s or 90s A/B amp - into the LRS .... for about 5 grand you can have an insane system

I have the original LRS. They're amazing. With upgraded stands, jumpers, fuses, they are shockingly good for the $$. So I'm positive the LRS+ is incredible. Be warned, you might be shocked at what they can reveal. And...They're NOT bright at all. No attenuation needed.

Good to know!
Sounds like an open baffle to me

Open baffle is a mounting technique for dynamic cone type drivers. So it's not applicable for this speaker, but the result is similar in that it's a dipole configuration.
We can’t them in GB or I’d have them

Unfortunately no recommendation what to use it with to get great results. Electronics and subs will cost a bit to make this speaker sound sweet. But perhaps in future videos?!?!

@@OCDHIFiGuy if you know your cat their behavior is as clearly recognizable as from a dog or any familiar fellow ;) It’s just that those Magnepans‘s remind ME of some scratch boards for cats. Maybe somebody has experiences regarding this fact…

Ill check that out..... those numbers sound unreasonable...
That’s right! A 12 foot acoustic guitar, a 16 foot female voice. You spend $1k then you need a $12,000 1 million watt amplifier to run them. Complete nonsense. Basically 1k for 1x2 Home Depot wood, supermarket plastic bags, and Reynolds aluminum cut in 1/4” glued to the plastic bags and two fuses.

Wow. Lol. You must be the cheapest pinche I've ever heard trolling. Stick to your cel phone for Audio. You clearly don't know shit about LRS+

Except for bass; no Maggies have actual bass.

@@mrgiggles7840 Never heard one that could do it, including the 30.1s. Other planers can do it without much difficulty but Maggies other than the original “The Magneplanar” always sound like the audio went through a crossover to redistribute the bass even when no sub is present.

you have them in a huge room or you had the wrong amp - I just listened to rock and roll on my LRS this morning - lots of bass - I have been in hobby 40 years and owned altec 19 before these 😀

@@mrgiggles7840 I’ve heard multiple models at multiple dealers connected to multiple amps over time and stand by my statement. Only the large Tympani IV had bass. From specs the 20.7 should but I’ve never heard that, and when Magnepan took the 30.7s on a dealer tour they were mucking with the crossover using jumper wires and alligator clips and it always sounded phasey and weird.

lets just agree that we dont agree - happy holidays
Two things at least, that is wrong with magnapan. 1, they have a cover surrounding the membrane acting as a veil and obscuring the sound wave release that comes out of them . Two, their measurements are all over the place, with a bad rise in the mid and high frequencies . Not a good speaker, and certainly not a neutral Speaker .

Exactly - sorry, but those planar speakers were never big for audiophiles for exactly what you said. I'll take a pair of Polk R700's for $1400.00 over Magnepan any day of the week.
