Awww poor boy, I'm glad he's well. I've had my Sun Conure 26 years and he's never been sick. I took him to the vets when I first got him and never took him again. He gets fresh fruit everyday and he's traveled by plane, boat, motorhome and car. I had a plumhead parakeet that lived to be 25 and he was never sick a day in his life. I find this interesting but I rarely get sick nor do I take any kind of prescription or over the counter meds. Just good healthy living at it's best!

I just moved from Tennessee to Oregon and we camped the entire way. That's my guess as to what did it. Strange sleeping patterns and constant change of temperature must have made him weak. He's doing better now it seems.

he trusted me more than his other buddies...but since all those feeding episodes,he was reluctant to even step up on my finger...so i totally agree with spoon feeding sick birds.they find it playful and that keeps them happier and healthier.i stopped forcing my bird and and he went back to normal in like a week.he's the happiest boy now:)i hope your bird never gets sick again! cuz it hurts like a knife when they get ill !!

My cockatiel hated baytrill and we ended up in animal ER because I thought he was dying because his eyes got droopy after and he sounded like he was suffocating. Turns out he just hated the flavor and blew it through his nares. Haha.

When My sun conure first got sick he was scared of the syringe as well. I put it on the spoon too and mixed a drop of syrup, he seemed to like it. He got a bacterial infection two years later, I used the syringe and he took it like a baby. I guess he loved the syrup flavor! Great video!

ahhh you are so sweet with your birdy! i wish i new this when my budgie got sick. it was so hard to feed her, her med but i always gave her something tasty afterwards. she was a very sick bird though, and even had to have a tumor removed then got diabeties. she also had some anger problems for some reason she would always try to attack people lol and fly after them and almost draw blood all the time! she was not shy at all. but was very smart though, for a budgie

I had to do this w/1 of my rescues. Another idea: if ur bird likes almond butter or bread products, u can also mix in the almond butter & smear on a piece of bread. I don't recommend mix w/sugar (or giving sugar period) cuz affects yeast in their system. Medicating birds is tough! Can someone do a vid on what flu viruses & illnesses r communicable between human & birds. Cuz I worry whenev I get sick., pinpointing symptoms can b tough.

He was sick about 6 months ago and I think this was a relapse. For some reason captive parrots are horrible at fighting infections. We have him on the same dose of antibiotics he was on before but this time its less per dose with more doses. He's recovering wonderfully.

I also recently had a sick cockatiel bird - it was very sudden that he got sick, just started throwing up on me. So he was at the vet's in no less than 30 minutes from the second he started. It was determined he had a bit of a gut infection, so they also gave him Baytril - a shot at first, overnight holding in a incubator, and then I fed him Baytril 2x a day for a week. The shot did the trick almost immediately, the feedings he didn't mind as well, till around the last few days.

Boy, have I got it made! Too bad I can't show you all the stuff I can do with my birds. Well, they're actually my father's but he's getting a heck of a deal with me taking care of them. You should check out Dr Ross Perry's videos. He's an Australian avian veterinarian and I learned everything from him and reading books on birds medical care, and I have crop fed, nasal flushed, given IM & SQ injection, blood draws from jugular vein, nail & beak trims, weighed them, treated them, etc.

I have a galah cockatoo that got a respiratory infection. I've also read that apple juice can be toxic to some parrots, one of the reasons being high arsenic levels. The way my vet said was to give it as the only water. If he gets thirsty he will drink.

Thank you for this video. I am wondering...I have an old lovebird of 18 years old who doesn't drink and eat enough anymore. So I have to feed him with a syringe, which he hates. But I have to do it because he just won't eat enough himself, not even his most favourite snacks. Now we are doing this feeding with the two of us. I hold my bird and open his mouth, and my friend puts the baby food in his mouth with a syringe. Now I am wondering....how much should we squeeze in his mouth at once? Is it okay to squeeze 0.5 ml in his mouth at once? Or is that too much to swallow for him? Also is there any danger that the food gets into his lungs if we squeeze it in his mouth? After feeding him like this he seems fine and actually nibbling and enjoying it it looks like. I guess that's a good sign right? A sign also that we did it correct?

His story was he was with 12 other birds and in a hoarding situation.I rescued him as he was the worst and its cost me a lot of money sadly. 2 vets who were bird vets were not helpful and cost me $400. Im dealing with my own health stuff but he needs care and i need advice asap He has one stump foot no toes, Other foot has 2 toes and 3rd one badly broken going a different direction. He has all his sheaths on his feathers almost covers his whole body. Some have broken and now stuck inside him. Its rock hard to get off. I can sit for hours rubbing it off but barely make progress. but some of the small ones with the smallest touch fall out whole.I was told by this vet he is an old bird so why does he still have this ? He is pulling out his tail ones because im sure it hurts . My biggest concern is the few that must have broke off due to him not being able to perch .He walks a small amount, balance is awful he goes to the side or falls forward onto his beak. Also told he has non cancerous tumor large enough to pull him forward. He doesn't speak, they said he could be blind. His one stump foot is locked so he can't move it. This poor bird just sits there in a corner it's the saddest thing. Any suggestions help anyone live near me i'd take him anywhere. The one vet was horrible i spent $200 for nothing 10min with him. I live in Canada Ontario Mississauga . He is in a beautiful cage i clean daily from mess. He is alot of work,He is on soft lined cage bottom,of blankets and even a cushion but has feet sores. I applied a cream vet gave seems to do more harm than good. He also had smelly blood clots through his whole back so 2 days and 5 hours i took a qtip to clean each one.He has gotten stronger with a lovely diet,i make sock nest for him to sit in like a donut so he can relax straight instead of falling over. I heat up his bedding at night a little and he loves it. He sleeps alot! He is also in my arms many hrs of the day. His feathers are my biggest concern. 2 straws inside body broken feather. Im sure he has more but the rock hard tubes are all over and i cannot just easy get them off. What can i do? Please help ......his broken toe in another pic,
