My baby bird FLEW to me for the 1st time yesterday using your target training! I really can't take credit. I basically introduce some- thing new, like your SFS or pellets, and s/he takes to it instantly! It's so EAGER to learn and so am I 😊🐦

Awwww what species is it?
My birdie is super smart and goes in her cage willingly if I say "let's go - cage!" 😊 I have lentil kale and spinach noodles that she only gets if she goes in her cage for me

That has worked great for me too. My boy knows he's going to get his number 1 favorite treat. for going in his cage so he is quite eager. He even anticipates when he sees me getting ready to leave the apartment. Sometimes I don't even have to actually ask him to go in.
I started Target training with Tiki after I brought him home at 8-9 weeks old! At 4 months old now the target training, learning other tricks, and learning flight training has been so simple for Tiki. He flies to me now no problem. The BEST NEWS IS... TIKI LOVES HIS NEW BIRD TRICKS T STAND!!!! Video coming soon of him using it!!! Thanks again Jamie, Dave, and Capri... I have learned so much watching ALL the Bird Tricks videos and all the write ups. So glad I also got Tiki on the Pellets and Seasonal Feed!
I just started to target train my Greek cheek..I have had her for 3 years since she was 10 weeks ..she's a wonderful bird will fly to me most of the time lol but would love to get her to a point where she understands me in her way. I been doing this for 2 days and is doing great..but she is kinda afraid of the clicker sound.. thank you for this video!!

Put the clicker in your pocket or behind your back for awhile and then slowly start bringing it more forward as she starts to get used to the sound.
I just got my Cockatiel named Rosie, it’s been a few days and she’s been pretty energetic but also a bit nippy when she gets nervous so I’ve started to use target training to help keep her calm and change her focus off her bitting response to me trying to change her food and water, my skin is very weak so I do not wanna get bitten 😅 I feel like target training is going to really help me bond with her and teach her to be gentle
my budgie loves the target practice, it really warms him up for calls to fly to finger. But he does not understand to fly to target, he will move to it if it's near place that he's sitting on, but he will not leave the branch or his spot to fly where the target is.
Its amazing how relevant the topics are to where i am at. Thank you for your awesomeness. I got my little blue lovebird back into his cage with targeting today! Not even a year...❤
Can't remember if I commented already but after seeing this in ONE session we made it so easy to get my little lovebirds back in without being 'tricky'

Hello Amanda, how're you doing today....
This video cannot be more direct and useful! I've seen you and other trainers using this technique and didn't quite get the concept unti now! Many thanks for sharing! 🤩🤩🤩

Great video Jamie
For some reason my birds are afraid of the stick used for targeting but the idea of getting them to fly to an area I point to with the stick just might be a game changer. Thanks for the fresh take. I love the enthusiasm.
My genius cockatiel Junji learned to target train in like a day, thanks to you! I've only been feeding him millet for training purposes, so it helps that he's very millet-motivated. He's gotten so good at target training that I'm working on "spin" with him! Now I just gotta get him to stop screaming/whining lol.
Excellent tutorial!! Thank you!
Target training around your hand is great for hand shy birds!! Great video!

Is there anything you can do if you see a bird in the wild that is probably someone's pet?
BOOM another great video from BirdTricks I love your content so much! (P.s id love if you could do a time lapse of you making the SFS with some of your birds out I find it so fun to watch any diet video really!)
Do you have a video about how to use terms, 'Step up,' step down, step back? I think I'm confusing our conure. For example, when I pass Cheech from my shoulder to my partner's, is that a step down? Or from my finger to his finger? To a perch, do I say 'perch' or step up? Thanks.
Any recommendations on treats? My bird is super picky
what is the best treats to use for training a conure?
Is there a reason why Bondi is the star of this video? ^^ Target training works wonders even for ADHD parrots like the Galah

What if your bird shows no interest in the stick and get scared when u do the clicker?
@LIFEOFMARIAHANDBOSS

Try this to do the step-up method and click the clicker when he or she steps up and gives your bird a treat. That's so your bird can get used to the clicker sound
Honestly if you haven't target trained your pet parrot then you clearly don't do much training at all this was the first trick I taught my ecletus parrot and it helped me so much I don't think he could do all the tricks he does now with out being target trained

Yes! It’s funny how target raining seems to open up anything else you want to train, 2 of my Guinea pigs I target trained as they’re first trick (they were incredibly scared of anything around humans for a year) they were still kind of ‘run and hide’ from me when I taught them targeting but now they fully know how to I’ve taught them jumping, ‘sing’ (standing on they’re hind legs), and putting they’re hands on mine I thought they were going to be forever scared until I stumbled across BirdTricks and found out that, that’s not possible thing

Not always so black and white. My female cockatiel passed several years ago, and the male I got to keep her company, who never socialised to people, is not keen on the target or clicker. None of this was around when I got him, and he's going on 24. He won't step up and is hand shy, although getting better, but to your point he knows plenty of verbal commands I did train him with, before this was a thing. He knows where he is and isn't allowed to go, poops before he leaves the cage, and goes back in on command. I value his trust and the relationship too much to insist on the target, which he clearly fears, and am not going to stop training and enrichment while he takes the time to get confident around it.

@@joebean3615 that's awesome I had guinea pigs when I was a kid they were tame but couldn't do any tricks or anything but they lived a happy 11 years until unfortunately a fox go them in my backyard sadly.

I think it really depends! Some parrots especially smaller ones like cockatiels/budgies can get scared of a target stick or clickers. Some conures can even get heightened by the sound of a clicker which isn't helpful. There are plenty of other ways to train with your parrot! And every situation is unique. That being said having birds that are target trained is really nice haha. My budgie is target trained and I'm currently working on it with my new cockatiel, she understood it immediately and it's SO helpful with getting her to go to different places 😊
Can you do any pigeon related content, pigeons are 100 percent trainable, and I haven't seen anyone do a video on it
I will be getting my sweet conure this weekend. After bonded, what treat would be the best to use for target training?

@@idahoe7581 Great idea! I will sign up. I am getting my sweet baby conure today. I am super excited but nervous as I have read so much info. I know this will be a great experience. I will try the pine nuts for sure. Thank you. Have a great day!

Our baby sun conure will do about anything for a small piece of walnut, pecan or a pine nut. I use pine nuts for foraging on his cage play top so walnut or pecan pieces are saved for training mostly.
