Oh no, that's not joy, that's a mask of joy and a representation of vulnerability. Maddie delivers an incredible dramatic performance

I wouldn't say Maddie's dancing represented joy. She was showing frenzy, but the dance represents the craziness of the singer's anguish. Too bad there wasn't an old chandelier for her to swing from.

This song, like others, is about her struggle with addiction and mental illness. But I suppose you're not wrong that it's an anthem of a sort. Personally, it makes me sad...it's deceptively joyful - kind of like when you're high. Eventually you come down. Be sure to check out "Elastic Heart", "The Greatest", and "Alive". While Sia is usually even more impressive in live performances, her music videos are basically art. So I recommend you don't skip the official videos. Plus...Maddie ❤❤

I wouln't say that Maddie is representing fun in her performance. She is supposed to be a depiction of Sia's problems with alcohol and drugs. They both did an amazing job expressing It. Even thouugh the song seems a party song, It actually has a profound meaning behind. All of us who have struggle with It, we completely relate to the song. For me is a piece of art

This is one of those life imitating art imitating life spirals. The song has tricked the listener in the same way that the alcohol has tricked Sia. It makes you feel good in the moment, but it hides the underlying sadness. I’ll reiterate here just how dark the song is. It’s not merely about addiction and its horrendous cycle. Sia makes pointed references to her life ending. We hear “live like tomorrow doesn’t exist,” but what she’s really saying is that tomorrow might not exist. For the addict, tomorrow might not exist. It’s not a hypothetical. So, the next time you’re dancing and getting pumped up by this song, and you think to yourself, I’m going to seize the day, remember what it’s really about. The song has managed to trick you in the same way that drugs trick millions of people.

Sia was working on a track for Rihanna. The title came from her book of song ideas: "When I saw a chandelier, I thought I could write a song about swinging from the chandelier. A party anthem of some sort. But as I was writing it, it turned into a song about my battles with addiction, inadvertently." But the moment she realized the personal significance of the song, Sia felt she "couldn’t give it away." I believe the song is much deeper. It is an existential anthem for all of us who feel trapped in the cycle of short-term gratification, lost in the maze of this absurd existence. Each dawn casting its relentless light on our darkest regrets of unfulfilled potential. It is about desperately trying to numb the pain of meaninglessness as we realize that happiness is nothing but a cruel joke. We're all swinging from The Chandelier, holding on for dear life in a precarious dance between hope and despair.

Not interpreted by Maddie. She had to learn the whole routine in 36 hours but she learned it in 18 hours. The whole thing. As absolutely brilliant as Sia is, Maddie distracts you from just how good Sia is because Maddie is floorless.

Maddie’s performance is so SUPREME, I think it sometimes does mask the pain (for new listeners) of the very ADULT and painful topics and lyrics faaar beyond Maddie’s years: “I’m just holding in for dear life. Won’t look down, won’t open my eyes. Keep my glass full until morning light. ‘Cause I’m just holding on for tonight.”

Spot on Chris. I have seen this many times and the impact never fades. I believe this was Maddie's first co-operation with Sia. She was invited to dance but thought that she would be one of a troop, not the soloist. The combination of that music and Maddie's free form dance is a power house. Her power to weight ratio at that age gives an edge.

Sia covers her face to maintain privacy so when she goes out without the wig she is not recognized by fans or paparazzi and in addition to this the black and white wig is a great marketing tool and a sia trademark! Sia had a semi successful indie career before this and had 4 albums before chandelier. She hit rock bottom when she got addicted to drugs and alcohol and even decided to end her life twice . She was forced by her label to promote and tour her albums making her more dependent on drugs. She also recollected an instance where a friend was telling her about her cancer and she was constantly interrupted by fans for selfies. So she finally decided to end her solo career and only write songs for other artist. As of now she has written more than 300 songs for artists like rihanna, beyonce, celine dion, miley, demi, christina, shakira and soo many others… she wrote titanium for katy perry but david guetta liked her demo so much that he released sias demo without her permission! That song was a huge hit As per her record deal she was supposed to release one more album and that was 1000 forms of fear which had chandelier and it became her first number 1 album…As sia hates fame she decided she will not show her face anymore for her own serenity and privacy…some sia quotes relating to the wig: “I was at target and chandelier was playing on the radio and no one recognized me. I felt free” “I will keep covering my face until it works” “I am relying on people being lazy enough to not google my face” Shes and amazing human being and a complete powerhouse and now a multi millionaire pop star! I recommend sia’s carpool karaoke with james corden for next reaction for her awesome live vocals and personality

@@lovers_cult no, no, no... I wasn't talking about her or her dancing. My point was it's my opinion it's odd to have a child dancing in a vid of song about addiction. You're Welcome, I just helped you expand your tiny mind.

Sia believes deeply in empowering young people. Probably related to her own childhood traumas & consequent adult self destructive behaviours. Great lady.
