The shuttle mission to Regensburg, Germany and on to North Africe, took place on 17 August 1943. While one bomber group attacked the ball bearing plants at Schweinfurt, the second group had proceeded to Regensburg. 55 bombers and 553 crewmen were lost on this double target mission. The Regensburg group returned to England a week later, bombing Bordeaux, France on its return.
