This was great. Thanks for showing the tone as the mic moves across the cone. This is one of the best examples i have seen.

@@MrThrashguitar I just don't like "talking bullshit" thats why it is the way it is ;)
Awesome video: straight to the point, stereo guitar was very nice to hear and I'm glad that you showed how it sounded in a full mix
4:04 is my favorite sound of all those positions. Good vid! Thanks
i think i like #6 Angled to CAP EDGE inverted. Thanks for this video. It definitely helps!

Only thing is, most people don't know what "inverted" means. It could actually mean several different things.
Best guitar amp/mic placement I've seen. More action and no talk. Thanks

I like the center, or edge of cap sound the best! But each placement has its use, depending on the song your recording, or the venue your playing as to where you place the mic!
really helpful, thanks mate!!

I played in live bands, and I moved the mic all over the place. The optimum place is direct center between two speakers. You want to back the mic up while turning up the gain.. let the 'air' add a bit of something extra. You will achieve a nice thick tone, much like having two guitar players.
you make great demos. I hope to see more. Maybe a few different types of mics, large cap also? would love to know where your levels are and any post settings nice
Great job, dude! Thanks a lot! I really like and appreciate it! I'd be possible to a have a single note phrase comparison video, too? (just to hear the sound differences in guitar solo stuff)

Just started playing the guitar. Why do they use a microphone to the speaker. Is that to make the guitar sound better?
@runxzze123
4 жыл бұрын
Paul Anthony it captures the true essence of what the speaker is emitting. It’s usually the best way to capture your guitar amp and cab tone.

Scott Johnstone thanks man! So the shure sm57 is the best way to go for mic’s?
@runxzze123

Paul Anthony it’s considered the industry standard and to be honest it’s the best bang for your buck and it sounds great. I don’t know a studio without one.

Scott Johnstone ok cool. Thanks again
angled to cap edge is my personal favorite which I prefer at my set up. I have only a 1x12 cap...but its sound for me best in this position :-)
straight to cone edge and angled to cap edge were my personal favorites. Good blend of all the important stuff: has the best transient and pick attack without being shrill in the high end, sits in a mix while retaining fullness...you can tell they would be the best combination of sound AND feel in a mix. There's no such thing as a bad mic (as far as sonic character), only bad application.
great great demo. ⛧⛧⛧⛧⛧ btw I have and love my mini Rectumfryer too. Lol rectos are fucking sick 🤘😈🤘rock on
Great demo! Can the mic be plugged in directly to the guitar amp? I'm curious because I would like to play my acoustic guitar or my acoustic mandolin (which are both not acoustic-electric), directly to the mic. Thanks.
Yes!!
So glad I'm not an audio engineer XD
Problem with all these videos is they record a guitar so distorted that you can't really appreciate the "tone" differences. Would be great to hear someone do one of these tests with a Showman cranked up a' la Dick Dale and record a clean tone at volume to really hear the warmth vs. the attack.
great presentation, angled at cap edge is my favorite for this session. a nicely mic'd overdriven amp sends endorphins through my brain. me like.
With an SM57, I find that straight to the cap edge works best for me like in the second example. Dead center on the cap is a bit too bitey!

I agree. Straight to cap edge sounds great in this example.
Very excellent demo! What's the song you're playing?
Dang, is that some sexy riffage. Is that an actual track that's available? Because I need it. Sounds like Hum. I always have to keep coming back to these videos to remind myself how much mic placement affects tone. it's fantastic. I also upgraded to an sm57 from my shitty £10 condenser mic the other day and I'm in love lol

Track riff like another mayber 200 rifffs are "song in progress" - sorry I'm to clumsy "to get it done" :D
The camera effects xD
Angled to cup edge sounds best to me as for what the mix needs in this situation, but I wouldn't say it's always the best option, I'd like to see the same kind of video but with a Marshall head, to get the difference between the tones.
how loud were you?
