Many people know that Shrek was originally supposed to be voiced by Chris Farley, but he passed away before he could finish recording his lines so he was replaced by Mike Myers. As a result, both the script and Shrek's original design were changed because Myers didn't want to compete with Farley's vision. For years there was little footage to be seen of Chris Farley's version other than small storyboards and a two and a half minute audio clip, but just recently a handful of animation tests have been found and are available to watch online. The most popular of these clips would be the "I feel good" animation test, in which Shrek dances and sings to the iconic James Brown song, only 10 seconds of footage concurrently be seen, but I recovered something that I hope people will never see... I was an intern for a DreamWorks back when Chris Farley was still alive, I was only a minor janitor but it was nice to peek in to the studio and see the animators working on their computers and actors recording their lines, half of this stuff would only be seen in snippets in the behind the scenes DVD. But one night I was working a later shift and decided to Snoop around on one of the computers, what I saw terrified me. It was a clip of Shrek dancing in the I feel good animation, but 5 seconds into the video the screen turned red and Shrek stopped dancing, he just stood there, staring into my soul, completely still. I thought that it had paused and I tried to click the screen, be t I saw the video was still playing, so Shrek would just stare at the screen for the rest of the video. I clicked off and closed the computer, no one ever found out that I saw the animation, and I hope no one else outside the studio finds it for a long long time...
