    After blowing out I would also flush the valve body, before reinstalling the cartridge, with water to make sure there are no pieces of debris hanging up in the valve body. Then flush the pipe to the shower head before reinstalling the head. You'll know if what you did worked by the amount of water that comes out of the pipe to the shower head.

    It is better if you cap the pipe to test for leaks in my opinion. You will have more back pressure. With the method shown it could take longer for any leak to make its way through the threads to be noticeable, not to mention a waste of water. It is also a good idea to run the water before you attach the head to purge any sediment/debris.

  • @Iscaper
    @Iscaper11 жыл бұрын

    Water through the handle? On my shower there is a pipe that runs from the valve body to the shower head. The valve body mixes the hot and cold water then delivers it to the shower head via the pipe. You should have something similar to this. Is your shower a shower only or is there a diverter spout involved with a tub?

  • @Iscaper
    @Iscaper11 жыл бұрын

    Might have to try a pipe wrench. Careful you don't break the arm threads off in the fitting.

    We love all your videos! We were able to replace the handle and cartridge on our single handle Moen shower. Happy day! But it didn't solve our problem---no water coming from shower head. Not a drop. There isn't a seperate shut off valve to the shower. The toilet and sink work fine. What we could see of the valve and pipes from where we replaced the cartridge look good. A little water did come out when we pulled out the old cartridge. ANY IDEAS for what to try next?! Thank you!

    Shroude Valdona Usually the shower arm connects to a 1/2" female adapter in the wall. Hopefully your shower arm didn't break off inside that fitting. I would check that first.

  • @Iscaper

    @Iscaper

    10 жыл бұрын

    Shroude Valdona I watched your video. If what you're describing in the video is correct it sounds like the female adapter in the wall has broken off the pipe from the shower valve. If that's the case it's probably time to call a plumber.

  • @zoez.2588
    @zoez.25888 жыл бұрын

    Yes, I remembered those things from your video. I didn't have WD40 so tried 3 in 1. As for pliers, I used every conceivable kind. Either I lack the necessary strength or it was "over installed". The installer has done other work here and he has gone overboard before. It feels like he used "cement" to join male and female pipes! Absolutely no give.

  • @Iscaper

    So we are dunces! We had a flash of brilliance and realized we needed to PULL OUT to test the handle, not just turn side to side!! So thanks to your great video the cartridge and handle are replaced and now water is running out of the shower head. BUT NOT MUCH. Major downer. We removed the shower head and still the water was just trickling out. The water goes from hot to cold fine. Ideas on how to fix this? Is it water pressure? A clog from the handle to the shower? Some bigger issue? Thanks!

  • @VasheerRamdeen
    @VasheerRamdeen10 жыл бұрын

    Hi, awesome video! I had to replace my shower arm as over the years it corroded and eventually broke off with the arm thread stuck in the brass pipe bushing. Luckily for me I could remove the pipe bushing and reinstalled all of it and then the arm ended up pointing sideways. I solved this by giving the pipe busing 3/4 turn and everything was straight and leak-proof(pray i did not crack the elbow in the wall). My question is could I have just not removed the sideways arm and then inserted one of those rubber-like washers and then retightened?

  • @Iscaper

    @Iscaper

    10 жыл бұрын

    If you mean like a hose washer for hose fittings I don't think so. I don't think the female fitting in the wall would accept a rubber washer.

  • @dorenekaranja9860

    Thanks for the great video... Since you're just replacing the shower arm and head, I'm assuming you don't have to turn off the water valve to do that? As long as the handles are in the turned off position, you can change it out. Is that correct? Thanks in advance.

  • @ccyaltr

    @ccyaltr

    5 жыл бұрын

    That is correct. Even if you turn on the water by accident the water will come out of the spout as long as the diverter is not closed.

    Sounds like there may be some kind of obstruction between the valve body and the shower head in the piping. You might have to remove the cartridge and try some compressed air to blow out that section of pipe. You might have to blow both ways, from the shower head back to the cartridge and from the valve body up to the shower head. Remember to remove the shower head also. Let me know what you find.

    Wasn't crazy about the way you attached the flange to the wall with the caulk on the outside like that. I think it looks better to use clear caulk and apply it inside around the arm and under the flange so it doesn't show on the outside. It holds just as well and looks a little neater. Otherwise, nice install.

    SOOOOO, is this as easy as you make it look???? and if I just need to repair a leak behind the flange, do I need to buy new parts or can I just uninstall, use my teflon tape and reinstall what I already have? In case you didn't guess, I'm not handy, also do I need to turn the water off to do this or just have the shower off?

  • @Iscaper

    @Iscaper

    If it's leaking out of the threads on the extension that connect to the fitting in the wall you could try teflon tape and reinstall. If the fitting is leaking you have bigger problems. You don't need to turn the water off if the shower valve is off.

    Do you have a leak in the piping to the shower head? If not I wouldn't try and change it because you may have to cut the sheet rock in the wall behind the shower valve to change the supply piping to the shower head, or if you don't have a wall behind the shower you would have to cut the shower wall to access the piping.

    +Mae Cedillo Some shower heads have a couple of flat spots on the back of the head where you can use a wrench to break it loose. If not, a pair of pliers should work. To clean the shower head the easiest way is to remove it and let it soak in some white vinegar or CLR for a few minutes then brush clean.

    snaresallday I had same problem which is caused by rust built up over years. So called a plumber to take some part of the wall to cut the pipe the install a new pipe and shower head .... all that should cost somewhere around 600+ but you can save up on installing the wall your self which should cost you somewhere around 350$ + wall material 80$~ GL

    When I remove the shower head I don't have any leaks,I replaced the shower head and the shower arm is still leaking,do you know what may be causing this

  • @Iscaper

    The shower head builds pressure back along the arm and is probably why you're seeing leaks. Did you use thread tape where the arm goes into the fitting? If so, I would try to tighten the arm another turn.

    FYI You put your Teflon tape on backwards. But I got what i needed out of the video. I didn't know what the flange was called. I always incorrectly called it a concealing plate.

    No, but be careful you don't bump the shower valve when replacing or you will get a bath.

    +colleen pierce I would try a pipe wrench and hopefully you won't break off the threads in the fitting.

    Can you pull the flange/escutcheon plate forward and take a look with a flashlight where the shower arm connects to the fitting? It should be a female adapter and the shower arm should thread out counter clockwise. Hopefully the threads aren't stripped and it's spinning in place.

    iScaper1 hi thanx for the reply I finally got the shower head off, I had to hold the plate and twist the opposite direction. apparently this is called a Self Seal Tub Spout & Shower Arm Trim Plates, there is a plastic stopper inside around the wall pipe. I dont know if someone did this on purpose or broke something and did this as a remedy.

    potatochobit Just watched the Tomahawk video here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/fWiorKOycdesedo.html Looks like the Tomahawk moves the shower arm connection from the inside of the wall to the outside of the shower wall. You may have to call a plumbing supply company to find Sioux Chief replacement parts for your shower.

    Doesn't matter as long as the fitting in the wall is 1/2" IPS (Iron Pipe Size) female threads.

    If it broke off in the fitting you could try an EZ out extractor. I would try soaking the threads with WD40 first.

  • @rickster348

    there's no trick, if it get's too tight on the final turn you end up with the thing pointing sideways. If you leave it pointing down it will leak. It's just the way the threads line up.
