Show grooming Miro the English Cocker | Kitty Talks Dogs - TRANSGROOM

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Let's do some show grooming! In this episode of Kitty Talks Dogs we groom Miro the English Cocker Spaniel according to the breed standard. During the washing and drying we give away some tips on how to make the coat stay flat, using Show Tech Vetrap, Crown Royale Grooming Spray, a Show Tech+ Dry Dude, etc. Kitty shows you how to achieve natural English Cocker ears with Utsumi blending shears, but also with a Heiniger clipper and blade.

    We have been fighting the cocker people in our area for years about not using the shedding tool with knives, becuase it cuts, but they will not listen. THey have had cockers for 20 years so they always know better. Its strange to me that they dont unerstand the simple concept of "dont cut what is meant to be stripped, but such is life. Beautiful correct cocker trim, lovely to see! Also interesting to see the different techniques. We use the 10 blade on the ears and throat area, mainly because then the groom will last a tiny bit longer as we dont do show cockers, but this was very interesting to see and i learned alot! Thank you ! I hope the time of shaving down cockers is soon coming to an end!

    I send off my lady to her trim to a local groomer. They're great. I've always been curious what they do when I'm not in the room. They are very nice and gentle with her and do a good job. My two previous groomers. First one cut her up and second scared her to death. This is the best one, my only regret is that we didn't go to them first to save my poor lady the stress

We have 2 female blue roan cocker spaniels - both the show type - one is 4 years old and the other one is 7 months old, the younger one is a blue roan and tan colour and we want to hand strip her because her coat is so much finer than the older one's coat at same age. Hi Kitty! Been watching some of your videos for grooming dogs and they’re so informative. In a month I will adopt a American cocker spaniel. I’ve been seeing all of the essential things one should do to have a beautiful dog. I’ve been checking the tools you use but I would like to ask you what you think is essential for proper coat maintenance? Also do you think clippers are necessary? Or can I only use a variety of scissors? Ideally I would like to groom my own dog, or at least learn how to and every now and then pay a professional to do it.

    Hello Carolina, thank you for your message, it's a pleasure to help you further in grooming your American Cocker. It's all depending if you want to go to a professional groomer, or if you want to groom your dog all by yourself. If you do it all by yourself , you will need al the tools & products that are showing in the video. If you want to maintain his coat and go to the groomer you really need the decent products, like brush, combs, shampoo, conditioner. You can take a look at our website for more products: www.transgroom.com it we can help you further , please don't hesitate to contact us . Have a nice day. Thank you

I do something on them once a week, and then give them a bath every 3 weeks. I have one that mates really bad. She loves the out doors. So I've been using dry shampoo. I spay it and it devolves the oils ,the mates brush right out. Then I give her a bath. Have you ever tried that.? And maybe you can tell me , maybe I shouldn't be doing that.Thank you very much

    I have an ECS Blue roan and Tan. The tan part of the coat is very fine and cottony. She is not a show dog, just a well loved pet, but I keep her coat long like a show cut. Any advice on how to keep that tan coat from getting matted? I brush her daily and haven't had a problem yet, but thought maybe there was a secret way of keeping the coat silky instead of cottony.

    My 18 month cocker spaniel goes into play bite mode when I try to groom her, I think she thinks it's a game , never aggressively but it's hard work just to brush her .. how do you keep them calm , she has been going to the groomers when needed for a proper groom , you are a true professional as a groomer really enjoyed vlog ,

    Hello Steven. Well your dog is a teenager now . so it's doing things that not ok on the grooming table. maybe she wants to play :-). with a lot of patience, be very consequent with your dogs behavior . Never give up, never stop. because then the dog see it as a reward. Yes, you can do it !! Kind regards

    Absaloutly beautiful thank you for the video. Can I just ask i was always taught it was not considered best practice to wash a dog after been stripped as the pores are open and bacteria can get in and cause problems. I was told its best to wait as least a week to bath a dog after been stripped. Was I misinformed?

  • @TransgroomTV

    @TransgroomTV

    Hello, Thank you for your message. No you were not misinformed. We also recommend that with Handstripping dogs , like Terriërs. But with a cocker , We recommend to wash those breeds because it's not easy , if you don't wash the coat it's difficult to finish them smoothly with the scissor works. But there is a difference with handstripping a cocker or a terriër . Thank you in advance .

    Hello Lucia, Well there is no straight forwards answer :-) . Some of the cockers get a coat that is very curly, soft. And with some of the dogs , the fur doesn't change. They will get more undercoat thats for sure, it's even depending on the colour of the fur ... So keep on handstripping the coat , piece by piece , with a lot of patience :-) Good luck. Let us know if we can help you further. Kind regards

    Hi, I'm looking to get a cocker for show. At least from a breeder who expects the pups to be showed a number of times to evaluate the litter and potential of the dogs. What is the cost for a show-ready grooming? Vs. maintenance grooming? And I would of course maintain the coat to my best ability at home , daily grooming, regular washing etc. Great informative video :)

    Hello, thank you for your comment and Positive feedback. the price of a show grooming is very variable, it depends from country to country and groomer to groomer. just keep in mind that the groomer will work a couple of hours on the dog and will ask her price for it. Here in Belgium, you can pay around 90€ for it. but it's very difficult to set the correct price. Kind regards

    @@TransgroomTV Thank you so much for answering :) I have found that in my country (Iceland) I generally pay double to triple price for services in comparison to mainland Europe. I have faint recollection of someone saying a show grooming can cost up to 250 euro. So I think I can expect perhaps more than that. I have asked a couple of groomers in my area for a rough estimate but they really don't want to make any generalizations or make any promises they cant go back on. Which I understand very well. I have even experienced this with my own hair. I paid up front, a trim and wash. However the barber underestimated the thickness of my hair (fine texture so it lays very flat) and it ended up taking him almost 2 hrs to wash and trim my hair. Poor guy, I felt so sorry for him D: he was sweating from trying to get my hair done at a reasonable time. I loved the result and would happily have payed more for the effort and time. So thank you again for answering :) The work you do is amazing! I could never cut hair, let alone trim a pooch who might not want to stand still x) Have tried trimming my dogs in the past. It is best left to the pros! I ended up taking my poor half-cut rag doll looking dog to the groomer and gave them a good laugh :D oh dear

    @@TransgroomTV And again, great informative video. I will use these tips to practice a puppy from a young age to get used to grooming :) Also, I used to think stripping was painful for the dog, but now I see how when it is done correctly, a little at a time, it is not painful. But I think it will be helpful if I train my dog to get used to the sensation early. In addition to nails, ears, teeth etc :) I'm excited about getting my cocker pup, can you tell? X) Haha

    Hello How blunt they are if you sprinkle a bit of hair that you retrieve from this tool after combing your dog and sprinkle this on a peace of paper to investigate. You wil see that some hairs are broken. If you need to have a perfect healthy coat, which is shiny and has the correct structure with the good color please do not use these tools.

    My veterinarian told me to NEVER pour the cleaner freely into the ear. Instead pour it into the cotton pad and clean the ears gently.

  • @TransgroomTV

    @TransgroomTV

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi there Sarah, as long as the ear is properly cleaned, washed and dried after this, it is no problem. But if there is product left in the ears it isn't good. Your vet probably told you that because as a pet owner you are not experienced with cleaning the ears with liquid such as the Show Tech ear care. So as a pet owner at home it can be better to use your method, but a groomer or a vet should clean the whole ear properly. Kind regards
