Show and Tell: Sailing Ship Kite!

Ғылым және технология

This week's show and tell is an awesome kit made by design firm Haptic Lab. It's a kite in the form of a majestic ship! We put together this flying dutchman and take it out for a flight. But the wind around the bay may not cooperate...

+Timothy McDougald No, not always, if it's a good kite, and there's optimal wind conditions the kite should basically fly itself. In the Outer Banks in NC on a good day, with my favorite kite I could hold it above my head with some slacked line prepared, gave it a little _pop_ up, and away it went. It may sink down for a second so that it can find that sweet spot angle that kites use to fly, but it's usually very simple. In fact there were times when I was able to send it up, and then tie it to my lawn chair. If you let it go up high enough if the wind dies down for a bit it will go back up on it's own when the wind picks up again. Norm just really had no idea what he was doing.

Beaches are always good plays to fly kites, went to the Florida Treasure isle kite festival a few months back gotta say kites have become amazing 150 feet long squid kites that look like dogs cats sharks crabs dragons (most dragline basically windsocks). But it's cool to see some of these things.
