You can totally do effective swings with a shorter mace provided its heavy enough. Hitting your butt is being nitpicky and inappropriate technique that is all. The Indians have been swinging giant Gadas with huge diameters and no one gets hit in the behind at all - just perfect your technique before going heavier. Also, a sledgehammer provides a great swinging workout. Video is a 5/10 for negging other forms of the same exercise and is a just a product placement.
