Excellent demo thanks 👍🙏☕ I tried a cats found brush from a set yesterday for flower petals and it's brilliant. There were also dagger brushes in the set, so found your video to learn how to use them 👍

Thank you Emma for the short but very informative video. I have a dagger in the two sizes you showed but didn’t know exactly how to use them, still very much a newbie. I didn’t realize how many ways they could be used, thank you so much ❤

I have one of those, I think they are called Sword brushes. I'm not at all good at using them! Needs a lot of practice i suspect, after using only Round brushes for several years. Mel in Devon UK 🍰🌻

Love this tut and the flowers so pretty! What is really frustrating is trying to do it left-handed. I'm trying to copy mirror image like from vids that are righties but my brain is not havin' it lol. Thanks much for sharing

I'm left-handed too! If you search YT for 'left handed watercolor tutorials' there are quite a few results. I think the main thing is to just play with your brushes and not overthink it and you'll get there. 😊

Kristy Rice got me to try the dagger brush and I just can't get it to work for me. Hers are more pointy than yours so maybe that's it. Clearly it has so many uses but I think there is a learning curve to it so thanks for the help.

I have one of those long sword brushes…can do interesting things with it but it is difficult to control! I finally managed to find a larger, short sword brush, which looks similar to yours. I’m still battling to get good results.

@EmmaLefebvre I actually just got my first dagger brush yesterday & I've been playing around with it ~ doing leaves, haven't tried flowers yet but I do quite like it! I have been watching your videos for a while, you are my main inspiration, & I absolutely LOVE your brushes ~ so when I saw you had dagger brushes I had to follow the link you shared &, oops! 🤭, I just bought 4 of your brushes....! 💗 {Even though I'm not allowed to buy any more painting supplies... 🤣} £41 for 4 beautiful brushes ~ an absolute bargain! Can't wait for them to reach me in Scotland so I can try my new Emma Lefebvre brushes! 🥰

i have 2 dagger brushes and love them, they look similiar to the shape of yours. A freind told me when i first began painting to try them and i feel they can do more strokes than a round brush more effortlessly, though that could be because they were my starter brushes🤷

Is this daggar brush somewhat new? I've never heard of it and just this morning alone, this is the second video I've seen talking about daggar brushes.

@lindakuck5981 I find it's all in the twist you give the brush ~ start with leaves ~ I just did a full A4 page of leaves in W&N Quinacridone Gold & DS Sap Green & a mix of those 2, just practising getting that twist right It's a drag, twist, press, drag, twist & lift ~ imagine your drawing the edge of the leaf with the tip of the brush by rotating/twisting it... {a bit like how you draw a circle with a compass ~ the pencil is the long edge/tip of the brush & the jaggy part is the short edge of the brush, although it doesn't have to stay completely stationary, that all depends on how long you want your leaf to be...} Start with the tip of the brush pointing towards you, curved edge down on the page & start to drag the brush away from you {angled at about 45°} to make a straight line {the stem} then, keeping contact with the paper, you want to twist the brush round clockwise to 90°, & press, dragging it away from you, then start to raise the handle of the brush up to 90° to your paper, turning & slightly lifting the brush {like you're drawing a curve with the tip}, to complete a 180° rotation, from where your brush position started, & finish at the tip of the leaf with the tip of the brush ~ that's you got 1 half of a leaf! Just repeat that, turning the brush through 180° going anti-clockwise this time, carefully finishing with the leaf tip in the same place & that's you got a full leaf! 🍃 Do a full page, at least, of practice leaves, learning how to do the twist, doing them in all different lengths, some short & fat, some long & thin etc ~ there's a video that helped me the most, out of many I watched, in nailing down the technique & I hope its ok to mention this but look up "dagger brush magic #watercolorforbeginners" it will bring up a shorts video of orange & yellow two-toned leaves ~ she does have a 4 min long video in her "flowers galore" playlist, & others, showing how she does it {she does use watercolour ink but the technique is the same} The insanely thin lines a dagger brush can do is crazy! Hope this helps.... Kx
