Don’t underestimate the second smallest state in Malaysia, it’s the only state government that has surplus, it contributes more taxes to the Federal government than receiving funding from it. As a Malaccan, I think the state is quite well managed. 😊

The man said, "Hue Kuan" meaning association. The Chinese race has many dialects and the one found in Malacca are the Hokkiens, Teochews, Hakkas, Hainanese, Cantonese, Fuchows, etc. The association belong to one of the dialect. Melaka comes alive in the evenings, especially on the weekends. It's a thriving city that's popular with local and foreign tourists. You should try out the Nyonya dishes there as it's a Melaka speciality and is different from the Nyonya food culture in Penang. The Portuguese Settlement seafood square is another melting pot for foodies like you Chai, its not to be missed! ✌️

For your information, at 1.40sc that place before this was a building site of Melaka Tourist Police Unit and i was working as a Tourist Police in 1992-2001 there. The building has been demolished right after the Archaeologist have detected under the ground was something weird. When they dug the ground, unexpectedly they found the people were burried that they believe there're among the soldiers have killed when Portugese came to attacked Melaka Sultanate Palace ( if i m not mistaken ). Sadly, our office has to be transfered to the new place afterward across the river to make this area as a tourism history until now. Since that, coincidentally i was join to another branch in Police Hq, but your story brings me back about a lot of memories that we couldn't buy it every where, only to share with all of u..

It’s the building for clan association. Clan associations are formed on the basis of kinship, clan, dialect, home village, territory, or occupation basis. Clan associations had its origins in China and were reproduced overseas by migrant populations. The earlier Chinese immigrants formed clan associations to protect and help each other. When some of them made it, they donated to the clan association they belonged and bought property to use as a place of gathering for the clan members. In Melaka, many of these clan associations also own and operate the graveyard for their members and organize prayers to ancestors a few times a year. Many also give out scholarships and student loans to the children of the clan members. Before Malaysia has PTPTN, I went to college in the 90s with a small scholarship and a no interest loan from a clan association that my father was a member.

Tourists usually visit St Paul Hill where there is St Franchis Xavier Church, but not many know that there is another defensive building built by the Dutch on St John Hill. You can Google St John Hill fort about 2 kilometers from where you are in the video. Near Bukit St John, about 500 meters below the hill you will find a Portuguese village, where generations of the Portuguese once colonized Malacca. The uniqueness is that these people used to speak in the old Portuguese language when interacting, but it was not the Portuguese language as it is today. There is also a food court that brings together traditional Portuguese cuisine. I share KZread link below.

The building you went in is a clan association where the ancestors from the same villages in China congregated in Malacca. The makan avenue is where you pay tourist dollars 3 to 4 times more than the normal food outlets. Makan avenue serves only halal foods so no non-muslim foods are allowed such as chicken rice ball etc. but you can find Malay version of the chicken rice (halal). Cendol is a kind of sweet dessert with jelly like green stuff made of rice flour and pandan leaves coloring with dollop of palm sugar (gula melaka) in the cocounut infused icy mix.

During Tuesday to Thursday, Jonker area may look deserted as most shops will be close for a day or two after the busy weekend. The few Riverside bars near Hard Rock are only open at night as Malaysians don't have the habit of drinking during the day. Due to short opening hours, the drink prices at these bars are therefore very high. In the past 2 years during covid, many businesses were indeed bankrupt but Malacca tourism picked up rather fast as majority of tourists have been weekenders from KL and Johor.

Asam Pedas is definitely the way to go! Although I personally feel like the small booth at the avenue probably wouldn't do it justice as much, I'm glad you enjoyed it though! It is definitely a signature dish in Melaka and you could find multiple restaurants here specialize in Asam Pedas. When I was studying in Penang for 3 years, I was often asked "where is the best place to eat Asam Pedas" whenever they found out I'm from Melaka, and I'd say Idk, I always eat it at home. Most of them were jealous and even tried asking for a recipe 😂 Melaka is also popular with our coconut shakes and ice cream so that's a good pick! Btw unlike KL which would be busy most of the time since it's a gathering place for both working people and travelers, Melaka specifically in that area is mainly for tourism while the locals are working or at school, so it's only natural for the streets to only be filled with tourists during the day😅 It's best to explore that place in the evening and weekends. If you ever plan to get on the boat, I'd recommend go there in the evening close to night time. The view from down there with the night lights throughout the river is exquisite!

Hi I’ve been seeing your videos 😃I’m going to KL in aug 2023 then off to Bangkok I’m also considering both places to live haven’t been to either yet, however one downfall is when you move to Bangkok the bank there makes you put $30,000 US DOLLARS in their bank🙄🙄🙄especially for retires and or no job people yet have money I don’t think Malaysia makes you put that much in opening a new account. Less then $2,000 for Malaysia Also im aware both places have excellent health care but I’m really wondering is it true the apartments in KL are much bigger then Bangkok? Do you know of this? Also I saw on a another video where the person states the real estate agents in Malaysia you most are FAKE will take u for a ride 😮they said you need to check the. Out First but how does one do this? I also heard it’s easy to get a apartment quickly little to know paperwork just your passport is this true? And I wonder if I was to BUY a condo outright up to $30,000 to 50,000 US dollars if I would get luxury apartment? Thanks 🙏 any info will help

Thanks for your questions mate :) I’m sorry I’m not really able to give you advice on this as I don’t no. I’m sure Malaysia also has a retort option but it all involves a lot of money 💰 you always can do a few boarder runs and visa extension while you are here and you don’t need to apply for any complicated visas :)

During the pendemic covid, these factories produce microchips for much needed covid ICU ventilators and cars later on when there were backlogs of orders. For the Malay community, the historic Hang Tuah is their hero. Hang Tuah has five brothers, Hang Jebat, Hang Kasturi, Hang Lekiu and Hang Lekir. Hang Tuah's name is mentioned in old China, Indonesian and Portugal historical texts. Meaning this body figure existed in the 15th century. There is an event that all Malays know the story of this legend. When Hang Tuah was executed by the Sultan for being slandered for adultery with Dayang Istana, his friend Hang Jebat went on a rampage and killed all the guards of the Istana. The Sultan had to move to the house of the "Bendahara" a position like the Prime Minister named Tun Perak. Accompanying Hang Jebat was only a Dayang in the Palace named Dang Anum. Actually, Hang Tuah was not killed by Tun Perak as ordered by the Sultan, instead Hang Tuah was hidden in the upper part of Melaka. Some historians say it was in Langkawi. No one could drive away Hang Jebat who occupied the Palace including the other three friends. Tun Perak revealed the secret that Hang Tuah was not killed but hidden. The Sultan was very happy to hear the news and asked to be brought to see him. The Sultan has given a keris taming sari which is claimed to be very special. The keris is now said to be kept by the Sultan of Perak. Hang Tuah coundn't managed to kill Hang Jebat after days of fighting. Until one day Hang Jebat said, what I did was because I believed that you had been killed by the Sultan. I just want to demand justice. But if I die, I am willing to die at your hands, my brother, but on the condition that, after stabbing me, let me rage against the people of Malacca who are afraid to defend justice. What I want to tell you is that Hang Jebat grave is only one block from Jonker Street, just a few meters walk and it is not popular because traveller do not know the history of Malay's warrior lagend. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dXiA1biuea3QaM4.html

Food are so expensive now and all food are mediocre only towards tourists only. People are drug addicts at The riverside not like tourists from all over the world before was absolutely depressing as it’s empty and dead and it’s impossible to express the once charming and the happy vibes good old Melaka days back in the 16-20 years ago now it’s all gone and it’s so depressing to even watch this video. Don’t get me wrong if it’s not the melaccan who maintained and constantly improved the development of the city at all time and all along it will just be another Petaling Street that’s for sure. Malaccan are still the nicest people in the whole of Malaysia.
