Should You Still Buy a Seiko SARB035/33? | Seiko SARB035 Watch Review

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

There's no doubt that the discontinued SARB033 and SARB035 are great watches. They are beautiful, comfortable and versatile, but do have a few shortcomings too.
There are still quite a few of them available for purchase, but with the prices rising like they do, should you still buy one?
Today we'll try to answer this question while reviewing the SARB035.

These are easily comparable to any 1,000USD watch, full stop. You're getting a legitimate Datejust alternative without the branding or nonsense for thousands less. Those saying it's not worth more than original retail need to spend more time educating themselves on what makes a great watch. There's a very good reason seasoned collectors are paying a premium for these.

It's absurd to say this is a replacement for a Rolex. The externals of the sarb are pretty good, but the movement can't hold a candle to a Rolex chronometer.

I have one on a Barton toffee Alligator grain strap & love it. One of favourites. Every time I look at autos around £1000, it’s this baby I compare them with. It is superb! The photography here (& rarely anywhere) does the dial & dauphine hands justice. It’s great watch.

My daily wearer, bought from Amazon just as the last remaining stock ran dry. Its a quality piece and a total strap monster. Hey what a timing...I think we think alike as I compared the prices of new sarb reaching skies. Thought of going for brightz at one point because of the price. But then if anyone has come so close to a sarb, it gets really difficult to get over it - even if there are better options. So I got a decent deal on the used watch with just under $500. Its got minor scuffs on the bezel and bracelet though. Now am enjoying sarb035 almost everyday. Thanks for this interesting video

Hi, ty so much again for such a great video. The sarb035 is along the Seagull 1963 the one that got me into watches. I got the seagull hked after talking to you but I don´t have enough money for the sarb. I really like that creamy dial and the measurements are just right for smaller wrists. I think the finishing is amazing but they are way overpriced right now as you said. Long Island Watches just launched a new sports/dressy watch which seems to be a better option. It comes in the sarb´s case but with the dial and handset similar to the OP or DJ and it is also a hi-beat. They have a gray colour which I think could serve really well as a daily or dress watch and it has antireflective coating aswell. I still like this sarb´s colour, dauphine hands and bracelet better but I can´t really afford something that expensive right now. At that price I think some people rather have the Long Island Watch or something like a Hamilton.

Absolutely disagree. I own several Swiss and German watches costing an order of magnitude more, and these easily hold up to any of them. Simply stated, if this isn't a 1K USD watch than no Rolex is worth nearly what they sell for second hand.

Lowest price I can find this week is $700 for NIB with returns, or preowned minor hairline scratches produced in 2019 with returns high 5's, or same but private seller like reddit/ebay with no returns low 5's. Please help me find a cheaper place/dealer to purchase. If no, please tell me another 38mm timeless Explorer-like one-watch collection strap monster with automatic, sapphire and 100m WR under $700? I do not believe it exists but would love to be proven wrong.

I sold it while keeping the sarb033 because i didn't really like white dial, I really regret it BIG TIME! The common issue with black dial is that with how the like reflects, in dark environment, it's not legible at all if the indices or hands does not have any paint or lume.

At the current market price, it's 100% not worth the money. Might as well go for a SARX if you want to stay with Seiko (although they are generally larger case diameters), any of the entry level Swiss brands like the Tissot Gentleman or Certina DS-1. At it's original price point there's a lot of fantastic chinese factory brands and microbrands. If you already have one - grats you lucky people.

@@czopsticks4238 On the other hand you can buy them and the level of finishing is significantly (closer to GS than to SARB) better. There is nothing mass-market currently playing in the niche the SARB has left. Maybe the Orient Star Classic, but again availability is spotty and they aren't as versatile. Possibly the entery level Casio Oceanus range if quartz is acceptable.

@@Tangylives thnx for the reply. Orient Star Classic is a great suggestion. However it is mineral, 20% less reserve and 50% less WR. Actually other Orient Stars look pretty close specs wise. No, quartz is apples to oranges. When talking value for $ can't blindly look how much they used to go for. Need to consider the competition and I still haven't found same value for less money. Also it is subjective but there is something special about that Sarb035 dial. The size, then needle head, the light cream color, the sharpness of the hands and the way the lume almost looks skeletal, the "Automatic" script...

That kind of price is unreasonable for a watch that looks like some budget Seiko 5, or a Chinese one such as Cadisen or Starking (well no, those actually look better)
