SHOULD YOU POLISH AFTER CLAY -or- Is it safe to CLAY and SEAL?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Claying your car removes embedded contamination from your paint. But is it safe to Clay and then apply protection or seal the paint right after the claying process. In todays video I go over the pros and cons of a clay and seal and explain why I personally don't do this on my personal care or on my customers vehicles. Some say clay is non abrasive while other say it is, so I do a side by side test to see just what happens when claying. ENJOY!!!

    Thanks a lot I appreciate that! I agree and I charge completely different prices for correction but I do build an enhancement polish into the price of many of my packages to help address minor issues. But again, for corrections I always address the condition with the customer in person and discuss how far they want to go before giving pricing

    @@imjoshvQuestion. Does it matter what polisher you have? Long throw or short throw? Backing plate size? I have a Rupes LHR15 5" plate, a Milwaukee M18 21mm throw with a 6" plate and a Zota 3" 8 mm polisher. I'm looking for suggestions on backing plates ( holes or not) and should I use waffle pads only?

    I say try a better lubrication. I use DIY rinseless as my lube and have the Rag company clay towel and I have done my perfect paint basically show car paint on my 22 Camaro and its a darker blue and i have never had a mark left behind. I think its the detail spray and not enough liquid in that Rag company sponge is why it left stuff behind. Throw the sponge in the bucket of rinselss and use it soaking wet and Rinseless as the spray on lube as well.

  • @imjoshv

    @imjoshv

    Yep the clay sponge actually was soaking before use and I also prepped it on glass before hand. Many quick detailers are essentially the same as a clay lube and work well for lubrication. However, I do agree that more lubrication can help!

    @imjoshv I know this is an unrelated question, but I have a Harbor Freight Foam Cannon and a Ryobi 1800 PSI pressure washer. I got a 1.1mm orifice for the cannon, and when I install it, it won’t produce ANY foam?! Just water coming out, and filling the jug with more water. When I put the original orifice in, it works fine. What’s the problem here?

    Big fan Josh! Just want to point out to others that the Mothers product is really just a synthetic clay bar thrown in with their off the shelf ceramic detailer. There’s nothing “special” about it vs someone trying the same using their own preferred clay and ceramic quick detailer That said, I know point of video was moreso a question of whether a polish is needed in between, due to potential for marring

    I hope this doesn't sound ridiculous but I wish you would buy a different bunch of pressure gauges and test those to see what the difference is in the pressure gauges are. The reasoning behind this is I've watched the same pressure washer reviewed by different people and it's always a different pressure so I'm wondering if it's the gauges or is it is it the water input

Every 3-4 months [or so] IF some of the panals feel a "little" rough, I'll clay mitt while washing using a high lubricity shampoo [TW Slick & Slide]. Just to lightly "clean-up the surface then follow up with a topper... Good vid Josh. Shine on you crazy diamond!

    a few things , just want people to note you clayed a squeaky clean panel not one full of contaminates that could actually cause worse marring , also i stopped clay/seal when i saw almost every synthetic clay leave a similar marring behind that puts really weird uniform haziness in the paint that wasn't just scratches , if it needs clay it needs at least a cleaner wax , if you want a decon/protect package just use tar and iron removers

    If you clay, you polish. “Clay and seal” is just another way for self-proclaimed detailers to make extra money from a job. I doubt they explain the trade-offs to the customer. I have pretty good luck with Megs mild clay. Seems to minimize marring. Never tried Mothers synthetic but have tried TRC’s clay towel and it definitely marred the paint more than traditional clay.
