Most cars and trucks have tiny contaminants embedded in their paint’s clear coat and a regular car wash will not remove those. Those contaminants can include dirt, grime, brake dust, rail dust, industrial pollution, paint overspray, tree sap and more.
A clay bar will gently pull and lift the bonded contaminants off the surface and leaves the paintwork feeling smooth like glass, ready for polishing or the application of a wax or sealant.
These days, we use synthetic clay media, which isn’t as abrasive as traditional automotive clay, to decontaminate your car’s paint safely and quickly. Synthetic clay lasts much longer, you don’t have to throw it away if you drop it. Just rinse, and reuse. And it’s much gentler on the surface, as it doesn’t contain any abrasives, so less chances of marring the paint’s surface when claying using a synthetic perforated clay media.

I bought a Maguires clay sponge recently and they are amazing,i clayed my whole car in around 2 hours and it came up as good as using a traditional clay bar. The best thing about these clay sponges is the contaminants wash straight out and you get many more uses out of one than a clay bar.

EXTREEEMLEY informative; thank you! I was taught how to clay bar almost over a decade ago by my uncle (but didn't know about micro-marring from it till much much later). Saw some of these coming out recently...but was stuck in my ways a bit (also b/c had a fresh clay bar in package still). This video has converted me for next year when I clay my car and the family car; these just sound like the best of most.

This video was informative and worth watching again. I have been using the DIY perforated synthetic decontamination towel for a year and wow does it work. Only once did I have to bring out the Rag Company clay bar for a heavily contaminated vehicle. A fun fact about the DIY iron remover is how well it cleans too. On a job once I was on the platform ladder and noticed heavy contamination where the windshield and glass meet as this had not been cleaned in over ten years. I did not want to get down the ladder so I sprayed DIY iron remover into a detail brush and this instantly cleaned the heavily contaminated paint. Ceramic Gloss used with the clay n seal along with DIY rinseless wash is money. I do like the smaller clay mitt from the Rag Company for cleaning the glass on the interior side and I need to pick one up. Thank you for another cutting edge video Pan!

Just watching another past video of yours on the P&S Bead Maker…. How would you compare P&S Bead maker to Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray? I had watched your previous vide and learned about Turtle Wax Hybrid Ceramic spray and have used it since. But after watching your yesterdays video, i am curious about P&S. I’m a weekend DIYer and by no means an expert but LOVE to keep my car shinny smooth, water beading results and of course gain time back.

  • @PanTheOrganizer

    @PanTheOrganizer

    9 ай бұрын

You can’t compare both products. Bead Maker is just a regular paint sealant. Not ceramic. It doesn’t last that long (3-4 weeks in general). Where it excels is for gloss and slickness. So we use it as a maintenance topper over existing protection. The Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions Ceramic Spray Coating is a long term ceramic based protection. If you apply two layers, 24 hrs between layers, it can last 8-9+ months. So you don’t use the Turtle Wax for regular weekly washes. But you could use Bead Maker after each wash as a drying aid if you wanted.

Quick Beads isn't meant to be used as a clay lube. It's a spray on rinse off sealant. If you want to do a "clay and seal" type thing, the DIY Detail Ceramic Gloss is a better option. See a video I made with Yvan from DIY Detail, where we show the "clay and seal" steps: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iYV8wbSPf9fYgqQ.htmlsi=b86czyu8bLUiiYPN If you want to use Quick Beads, you'd have de wash the car first, then do the decon step with the DIY Detail decon towel and iron remover as clay lube (so you're also removing iron contamination at the same time), and then once you rinse, while the car is wet, you can spray Quick Beads, wait 30 seconds, and then rinse and dry the car.

Note: I only use a bar when used with a stripping wash soap and not once the car has been protected, then use a clay towel once a month after the whole car was protected. "Me and my clay bar are one with the car". It's also nothing for me to use 2 bottles of clay lube on a car, just so I know I'm getting enough lube.

The DIY Detail towel has a finer grade according to DIY, so that would be my first pick for a well maintained vehicle, should you need to clay the surface. Here's a link: bit.ly/3O8D5AS

PAN! I have a question!!! I’ve been spraying cars for years in a professional bodyshop in the UK. It gets very dusty in the Workshop from sanding. I want your opinion on the BEST way to remove the dust that collects on the car while it sits there waiting for the customer to collect. A quick air blow off, and a light wipe over with a California duster or? A detailer and clean lambs wool cloth perhaps? I do not want to wax or seal the car in anyway, or apply any detailer that requires moderate buffing or may cause smears. I just want to remove dust without causing scratches. And adding a super glossy deep slick shine, is secondary, and I only want that if it’s super easy and quick, otherwise, extra slickness doesn’t bother me, just want dust removal in that case. I want to do something that takes just 5 minutes and no effort, to clean dust off an entire car. I would consider a detailer that’s super fast to use and takes next to no effort to buff smears off nicely. I love Meguires detailer but still don’t know if what I do, puts tiny swirls in or not. What would you suggest? Worst part about detailers I find is getting it on the edges of windows ever so slightly, then trying to wipe it off cleanly, and the black sticky dirt on the rubber seals and plastic trims, rub along the edges of glass making it super hard to get the spray off nicely.

Never dry wipe a vehicle with California dusters. Those are not good for the paint! If there's only a VERY light layer of dust, you could use a plush microfiber towel and quick detail spray to lightly mist and wipe the surface. But ideally, I would always prefer a proper hand wash. There are no real miracles to avoid scratches unless you are using proper washing and drying methods.

Great video as usual! , I have a question for you Pan: Can these clay towels remove waterspots? Thanks

Thanks. For water spots, it really depends on how bad they are. You can certainly start by washing and claying and see if that works. From there you can also use a water spot remover. See if those work. If the spots are still there, it means the minerals started etching through the clear coat and you’ll need to step up the level of aggression to machine polishing. Beyond that it’s wet sanding or a panel respray. It’s a case by case scenario. Do testing and see what works.

Have you tried the Gyeon Iron Remover with the Clay Towel? I was advised it also works well, smells better and has lubricant.

Great video, Pan. Lots of useful and necessary information. I take care of my car myself. I would like to ask, can I use Clay Towel and CarPro IronX Snow Soap? Is this option safe?

It's impossible to know all the combinations known to man, so you'd have to test for yourself and see.

Would cerakote rapid sealant spray or something from kc work instead of bead maker for the process mentioned at around the 21min mark? Those 2 brands are, for some reason, easy to get here while some others aren't as available.

You know CarPro has had a towel like that for years now. I knew that towel looked familiar. I’ve been using a towel similar to the perforated towel for the longest time. Haha nice.

It doesn’t mean they’re all equal though. Not sure where the CarPro one is made, but I did try it and it was good.

As always another great video. I really enjoy them for information and entertainment. Here's a tough question. If you had to pick one brand for all of your detailing what brand would you pick? Feel free not to answer.

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I often say I would never pick just one brand, as I like to find the best products from each brand. But certainly, CarPro and Gyeon and Gtechniq are top tier brands.
